GTA 6 – Tax Returns Hint at Early Release; May Coincide with PS5 and Xbox Series X Launch

Captain Hero

The Spoiler Soldier

The gaming community has been clamoring for the release of the next iteration of the Grand Theft Auto or GTA series for a long time. The game’s developer, Rockstar had not given any firm indication when the GTA 6 will be released for play. The company’s UK franchise Rockstar North has claimed certain tax concessions in that country showing the development of GTA 6 with British content in it. This has given away the tip that the game is under development and could be released soon.

The Wait May Not be Longer
There has been another development, which confirms that Rockstar may not make the gamers wait for long to play the GTA 6. This is through a source from within the company, which said that the publishers of the studio are insisting that the game developers must reduce the time interval between the release of games. Traditionally, game developers extract the maximum from each of the versions before releasing the next version. When GTA 5 is still selling in sufficient numbers, the company wants to wait before releasing GTA 6. It may keep releasing updates to the present version. The moment GTA 6 is out for purchase and play, the sale of GTA 5 will virtually taper off.

May Match the Launch Dates of Hardware
The most popular gaming consoles, Play Station 5 and Xbox Series X are due for release later this year. Rockstar North may use that occasion to bring out its GTA 6 so that the gamers can have the best experience with the hardware and software. The new game can be bundled with these gadgets to exploit the interest in the market and push up the sales of the game. Once they have the gamers hooked on to the new game, updates will keep their interest alive

That's a very optimistic outlook. GTA IV had its first official trailer released I think 13 months before it was released and it was almost two full years between them for V.

Not a chance would Rockstar do this.

They would release the game on current gen only.

Then next gen at some point next year.

Then PC early 2022.

Triple dip motherfuckers.

Absolutely...and I will be the first in line to buy all three versions. I think that means that I have a problem.

That article is a piece of shit. (no offense to OP who is just sharing info)

Some actual details:

The accounts for 2019 show that the company claimed £37.6m in Video Games Tax Relief, taking its total to £80m since the scheme was introduced. Of the 1,110 claims made since VGTR was launched, Rockstar have accounted for a quarter of all the relief claimed from the government, whilst publishing only two games that qualify for the relief.

The claim is believed to relate to the production of the next edition of GTA, rumoured to be scheduled for release soon. Rockstar North is the lead developer for the series, although Rockstar has also registered Red Dead Redemption 2 as being ‘Culturally British’, the pre-requisite required to qualify for the relief. Studios are able to make interim claims for VGTR before a game is completed, and the huge claims being put in by Rockstar are likely related to the production costs of GTA VI. As VGTR is related to production spend, the large claim indicates the scale of Rockstar’s spending on games development.

Of the 345 VGTR claims last year, 315 of them were for less than £1m, for a total of £30m. Rockstar North’s claim is worth more than the value of all of these 315 claims combined. There were 29 claims (excluding Rockstar) of over £1m, totalling £35.4m. And then there is Rockstar at £37.6m, which managed to claim more than 50% of the entire amount granted to games claiming more than £1m in relief. In fact, the stats tell us that Rockstar claimed at least five times the amount of its next biggest rival in 2019, making it by far the largest production in the UK that year.

Until something concrete is revealed, these "grasping at straws" threads are getting old. Content is content, but who cares if a trademark is renewed, a remaster gets rated by the esrb, etc.

Couldn’t say it any better

... that's what the "like" button is for.

GTA is a big enough brand that it doesn’t need a pre-existing userbase.

Current gen versions of GTaV are in fact last-gen ports and look how it sold from the beginning of this gen.

Next-gen could easily launch with GTA6 but I’d also expect it to be available on current machines anyway as they never got to show what they can do with current machines aside from GTA online.

Meh. GTA's schtick has become rather tiresome now...not to mention that GTA Online has killed post-release singleplayer support and DLC and I have exactly zero interest in getting into a hypothetical GTAO2 so that Take2 can nickle and dime me some more. I'd rather see them fix the PC version of RDR2.

Hopefully winter 2021. Heard take two is doing something to try addressing this super long dev cycle issue, it’s widespread across many other studios as well and gotta shorten them somehow.

They need a userbase! Imagine that PS5 and XSX will be sold out for month if they launch this game. Rockstar can sell 15-20 Mio of GTA 6 in the first month without any problem. It will take a year or longer to get these systems built and shipped.
