Like instead of making microtransactions they would opt in a "tipping" feature where players can donate any amount of money to the developers or the publisher if you are feeling charitable. We kinda see this with streamers and don't see why not for games.

Indie games in particular would benefit in my mind with such a feature.

No.

And if a game is free to play, and I get a ton out of it, I'll buy some dumb skin to throw the devs some cash.

I want it for everything. I want to be able to give a tip to Kellogg's when the Frosted Flakes hit the spot. Send $5 extra to Bic when I realize my pen has lasted way longer than it should have.

The days of expecting a product to be worth buying on its own are over. Now it's all about giving an extra reward for getting what we were supposed to get with our initial purchase in the first place! In fact, this keyboard typed this whole post out without breaking, so I'm sending an extra few bucks to Logitech.

Is there some competition with who can make the most retarded thread? Between this and ads during loading screens for cheaper games. Just blows my mind how some people can think this is good in any way.

I bought the game. There's your fucking tip

What? No. What kind of moron would want that?

It's a product. You buy it and, if you enjoyed it, you might buy more from the same creator.

If you find yourself thinking 'golly, that would have been worth it at an even higher price', then good! You didn't get ripped off! Be happy it was good value for money and move on.

Some people really have been psychologically conditioned to have zero common sense or sense of self worth.

Even better would be paid live cam streams with devs where we can order them to do humiliating shit in exchange for tips!

Why would the dev being an indie change anything?
People are more likely to throw a couple dollars to an indie Dev than a full fledge AAA studio. Some indie platforms such as Itch.io and GameJolt kinda already do something like this with their games.

In restaurants ect. you pay for a pleasant service and interaction with your waiter, so I don't see why this should become a thing in games, I payed for the game that's it.

How about the reverse? We get money when the game turns out be shit, or if there are escort missions or bugs :messenger_neutral:

I wasn't raised in a culture that tips people working in bars and restaurants, so I won't start tipping video game developers as well. With that said I've purchased quite a few remasters / reeditions of games I loved playing on past-gen hardware.

You know what.

A lot of pirates would tip.

Guys and gals in countries where one single videogame is the equivalent to 15% of the common wage.

A lot of gamers in such situations can almost never afford to pay 60euros/dollars for one single title but a sizeable chunk of them would throw devs what they could.

So, while on the cringe side and while we will never see this beyond some indie studios, at the end of the day its not a bad concept.

Now I feel the need to tip every poster that made me lul ITT.

Now in all seriousness, yeah, maybe that would benefit some developers but also they (developers) would end up abusing it just like a fake beggar.

No. As if we don't have enough ways to give them more money in games already anyway via microtransactions etc.

If I like a game enough I will buy an extra copy to give to a friend or give away.

In a way this is really dumb.
But in another way, we're creating a culture around donating money with all the streamer shit, Patreons, and more. So yeah, if retards want to give their money away so that I don't have to deal with micro transactions, more power to them.

yeah sure why not? everybody deserves a pat on the back for whatever the fuck.

Do Americans really tip corporations?
yes. then we clap and give all the white women to the corporate bulls to get fucked.

So yeah, if retards want to give their money away so that I don't have to deal with micro transactions
It's really cute you think they'd just stop with microtransactions lol

Tipping is immoral because it enhance prejudice.
Tipping doesn't work because quality of work isn't related to the tip amount.
Tipping absolve the employer of paying a living wage.
Tipping give more power to people with disposible income than people without, furthering the divide inside a community.
Tipping is yet another micro transaction.
Tipping hide the true cost of things

Tipping culture should not infect videogames and corrupt it even more than it already is.

Well, some indies already have active Patreons, so, yeah, it's happening right now.

People love to support the little guys.

Dont forget to tip EviLore EviLore for Gaf, and also include Dan Quayle for inventing the internet.

Oh, and your ISP for allowing you to use the internet. Don’t forget your PC manufacturer (or phone if you’re on mobile). You may want to tip your electric company as well since the power they provide let you use your computer.

Ah, may as well tip your boss at your job too, since theygive you a paycheck which allows you to pay for the things that you are now leaving tips for.

And tip your mother, without her, you wouldn’t exist.

When you push your product into the realms of a service
Sure, "tipping," or paying for some microtransactions makes sense

It pushes their product into the realm of a service based industry, which is more palatable (For some reason) to the average consumer to "Tip the devs."

Here's the thing people don't think of though; outside of bonuses, "tipping," the dev doesn't get the actual programmer more money, it raises Lumbergs' stock a quarter of a point

Now, I've never worked for a company where when they're getting profit, that their employees get more money; a $15/Hr job is worth that, and there's no reason to pay that person more if they're in the same position

Purchasing microtransactions supports that payment model, and enforces with those companies that their business model is successful.

If you ACTUALLY want to make a difference, don't buy micro transactions and put your money into more consumer friendly business models; show them "tipping the dev," and that games a service based industry is not what the consumer base wants by making those appealing options more profitable

This could be seen as fanboy milking, similar to microtransactions.

Valve, obsidian, etc who have goodwill of gaming community could make billions.

Generally no, I wouldn't... but I might consider tipping an Indie if the indie is actually listening to their community. I've tipped some App Devs in the past, because they listened and implemented or changed features, so I don't see why I wouldn't do this for games I really like and have played for dozens or hundreds of hours.

AV

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
It'd just become a cosmetic shop when the developers added tipping incentives.

Tip $1 for basic hats!
Tip $10 for gold hats!
Tip $1000 for platinum diamond hats!

I'll buy some microtransactions if I feel its warranted. I got some emotes and stickers for Monster Hunter, deluxe editions for Resident Evil 2 and DMC5. If I really like it I'll even double dip . I tip them by continuing to buy their products .

The amount of gamers that are ready and willing to fellate devs is quite disconcerting

I see what you're trying to say, but It wouldn't work. No microtransaction pushing publisher would replace psychological manipulation with that. For indies, you could already give more support by double dipping or gifting. I think I bought Hollow Knight five times. Maybe add gifting to PS4 and Switch.
