First user review for Animal Crossing is out. Looks like some sort of leak? Really interesting new info.

that's so fake, but it would be so good if true

Latest Numbers. Thanks Mista Mista

Great, GREAT stuff. I thought it would be at a cool 50, so 52 is really impressive. You know Nintendo is doing well when the haters drop any pretense and go for a full frontal shitposting assault.

Also 16 million Pokemon Sword and Shield is insane.. What a boycott Pokemon fans.

Yeah that one didn't work lol. It probably didn't help the cause that word of mouth wasn't actually all that negative, I have some friends who are Pokemon fans and they all said it was a really fun title. I see it here as well with people saying it wasn't all that bad. The boycott never had a chance.

Missed that news. Thats a super odd decision. I wonder if thats due to the M$ buyout? Did they say why?

Not sure the reason but it's another Overwatch type situation where they will sell a box at retail but the box just has a download code.

Has anybody ever offered an explanation as to why this is a thing that happens? It's weird because the industry does stuff like redesign game cases to use less plastic and gets rid of instruction manuals citing a desire to be more environmentally conscious, and then they go and do some dumb shit like this. Does having an actual box on the shelf make it sell that much better than just selling the card by itself (Target's full of download code cards for individual games and DLC stuff)?

I know the cartridge cost was a concern. But I am not going to pretend I know enough on that front to say it makes a huge difference one way or another.

But I worked in games retail quite a bit and to the average consumer back then having a physical something on display made a huge difference to discoverability. In the more recent times I am sure that has become less and less needed but I could see how having an actual box could help drive sales. My question at that point is more wouldn't it makes more sense to put that money into making a box back into the marketing budget instead to spread word of mouth?

This is making its rounds on Twitter now.

Look at the date and time on the computer monitor. Fbh Fbh

Hopefully it happens they have wanted to do this for a while.

That's a really good tease.

Not sure if Wonderful 101 would sell on Switch though, it'd be nice to give it a chance but I don't think it has much appeal outside of a niche fanbase.

Who’s the guy with the cap?

Unsure tried looking into the tweet but I didn't see anything to note. I think they might be self publishing 101 though if Nintendo allowed it it seems all the "insiders" are pointing towards. We shall see I guess. Also to note.. they are alluding to more multi platform games coming.

multiplatform new IPs are basically for what they needed Tencent support before.
W101 is being ported to various platforms as well, but won't be directly related to the Tencent funding. As Nintendo has a part in the original game's funding / trademark, the company's name should be in the ports still (ie. a Nintendo logo on a ps4/xbox game)

Zhuge and the paternity leave kotaku guy don’t write speculative tweets anymore, they are always tied into things they’ve been working on personally behind the scenes and then they hype up on Twitter. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but it seems like their insights get reported as if they are scoops, when they are really measured drops preceding their own work in the BG.

Catalyst was a REALLY stunning game. It has its flaws for sure, but the art was absolutely spot on.

For now I'm looking forward to... (most of them third party exclusives)
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
Bravery Default 2
No More Heroes 3
Bayonetta 3
Shin Megami Tensei V (hopefully)
Fire Emblem Three Houses Story DLC

there are both mario kart sequel and splatoon spinoff rumors floating around
maybe they are real, who knows

there is also a paper mario / 2d metroid rumor, but this is looking like wishful thinking (who knows...)

Apparently there will be two directs this month. One being an animal crossing direct. Keep your eyes and ears open.
That's been teased by Zippo, which I don't trust at all.
But someone from a media outlet said there's an AC embargo lifting on Feb 20th, which kinda indicates there'll be an AC direct by that date

I don't get the appeal of it myself. It practically put me to sleep everytime I've tried.

As an avid player of rust, I am looking forward to trying this... I feel like its just a more peaceful less stress inducing version of that? Except I won't have to worry about who is blowing up my base.

Btw, I’ve got to apologize to the leakers for this, earlier in the thread. Fair is fair. I frankly didn’t count on Nintendo being that cool, to let their IP go like that.

Doubt. Wonderful 101 is a Nintendo published game, therefore in their stable of IP, as how 99% of publishing deals work (a notable exception being Destiny).

Why would Platinum be working with other publishers to bring out Nintendo’s IP? Even Kamiya said it was dependent on Nintendo, when asked.

I don’t have any invested stake in this game I’ve never played, other than wanting fans to be happy, but this reeks of making up things for ‘Insider knowledge’.

To get back on topic though, I really am getting way excited for Animal Crossing. Not only is it the first game actually done in-house at Nintendo since Super Mario Odyssey (excepting SMM, which is kinda more user content), but I’ve always loved this series so much.

I can’t wait to be taking my virtual vacation and crafting my perfect house and island from the ground up, and all of it. These games feel like a zen, immersive, wonderful little world that’s always with you. I know this game is just going to devour my personal time, and I’m completely okay with that.

I really don’t get the love Animal Crossing gets, it’s one of the most boring games I’ve ever tried to play.

It's like a mix between Harvest Moon and Tamagotchi. And it's such a feel good game. It just makes me happy for whatever reason. I understand it's not for everybody, but it's definitely for me.

I myself never played Animal Crossing but it's not hard to see why people enjoy them. Sometimes if you have stressfull day and not in the mood for intense game, so you sit down and chill out to animal crossing.
