Switch worldwide sales top 52.48 million | Pokemon Sword and Shield sales top 16.06 million

Of course they do that’s why Sony upped their game (pardon the pun) this generation and have been on par (or even better than Nintendo) when it comes to console exclusives.
Not even close!

Sony 1st party games were heavily bundled right after the release. Spider-Man+PS4 BF deal at $199, HZD, GOW, TLOU Remastered + PS4 at $199, Uncharted 4 PS4 bundled and etc.

While most of Nintendo 1st party titles weren't giving away for free like that, only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had been promoted aggressively like Sony titles but still retained the full price after nearly 3 years on the market.

Current MSRP
$60 - BOTW, SSBU, MK8D, SMO, SMP, Pokemon, and etc.

$40 - Spiderman and Days Gone
$25 - GOW
$20 - Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, and TLOUR
$15 - HZD complete edition

I can't listen to Metroid rumors. They hit way too close.

Same here. The part that hurts the most is that it feels like Nintendo is wasting time. The only new games in the series for 10 years were Other M and Federation Force. Like WHAT THE FUCK. Then Samus Returns comes out, it's a legit good game that does nothing besides being a Metroid game. There's a clear formula in place and they refuse to follow it. It's going to be 3 years since Samus Returns, she could have returned harder.

Castlevania also had the same fate, but that one is easier to explain because it's a Konami series. Nintendo sees the plethora of Metroidvanias coming out and being successful and for whatever reason they refuse to style on fools by bringing back the daddy of them all. It's baffling.

Here's Samus Returns running at 60fps in high res:

There's no reason not to have ported this game to Switch already. Very little would have to be changed.

This makes no sense and it won't happen. People don't sell the console and rebuy it when a sequel hits, BOTW2 might sell 15 million units but it won't move 15 million more Switches, it might push a couple more million. Only first entries have that power, Nintendo will need new IP, new entries in IP not established on Switch and the continued push of their evergreen titles to keep it moving.
I'm glad you feel for certain it won't happen, I myself thinks when dust settles, the Switch will be in range of the PS4 lifetime sales.

I didn't say it won't happen, I said sequels to games already on switch won't help much. The switch definitely can break 100 million but a lot of its potential is unknown. Will there be revisions, price drops, how long before a new system, etc. If the system lives another good 3 years it can certainly do it.

Sell-through refers to unit sales by retailers to
consumers.

The price is frustrating, though I'm glad Pokemon is out of its slump.
I never thought I'd say the anime portrayed Alola as more of a fun place than the dull games. Then again the lack of a Sun & Moon movie leaves me confused.

People bitch and moan about every single Pokémon generation and then it still sells 16,000,000 copies because a bunch of overgrown weeb dorks crying on the internet is not representative of the market.

The information in the original post is aligned to only first 12 quarters of each console’s lifetime.

Edit: Seems like you got it : )

When you factor in the fact that they have lost tens of milliions of sales on a potential handheld successor, this figure is not that great. I bet the wii + DS sold tens of millions more combined than this ancient last gen tech.

I don't know how the hell you manage to downplay the great sales figure of Switch. *shrugs*

Be happy that videogame console sales are thriving! =)
I want to hear great news from Sony and Microsoft too!

You seem to forgot that launching a new hardware also needs money. R&D, game development, deals & marketing.

The DS is the 2nd highest selling video game system of all time, acting like a new system not matching those sales means it's "not that great" is fucking absurd. And the Wii had a very different approach in how it was marketed (plus, the timing was good as Sony had fucked up the launch of the PS3 and Xbox 360 didn't fuck up but was appealing to a different audience generally than the Wii). Besides, the actual previous handheld before the Switch, the 3DS, sold half of what the DS did and the Switch despite only being out for 3 years is only 20 million units under the 3DS' lifetime sales.

So forgive me if I'm skeptical that the Switch sales are "not that great".

The question is, will it surpass the PS4?
No. This year was the peak of the Switch console sales and starting from this point of its console cycle it will decrease year after year.

With the release of two games that will be one of the best selling in Switch history. After these ones I think there won't be many games with this impact, there aren't other big selling Nintendo IP waiting for its Switch debug.

Switch sales exploded with the Mario+Zelda+Mario Kart sales big guns, and this year they released their other ones: AC+Pokemon. BOTW2, and -if released on Switch- next Mario Kart and next big Mario are the only ones I see selling above 10-15M units.

hahaha no, just look at how much their console exclusive games have sold.. not even close, also quality wise they are not close to nintendos exclusive games...

I mean just look at this bruh:

aVMz7pO_700bwp.webp
We have there two new IPs from this gen, two from the previous one and another from two gens ago. Fresh stuff and very diferent from each other.

If you would do the same with other console you'd find that all its main games are IPs that have been doing the same since more than 30 years ago.
