I think in the future there will no longer be exclusives maybe a generation away.

No chance.

The only way we will no longer see exclusives is when we no longer have multiple consoles on the market.
The entire purpose of exclusives is to shift console units or to at least make one console seem more attractive that the others based on the games that can only be played on that console.

Even then without consoles you would likely still see exclusives to some extent. Mostly I am thinking that Streaming Service X would have games that are not available on Streaming Service Y.

It's kind of normal in business though since almost every corporation that is operating in a competitive market is trying to offer some kind of "exclusive" service or product that you can only get by giving your custom to that company.

I don't see why gaming would be different somehow.

Holy shit not even a day and it's already over a 1 mill

Have they said anything about a physical release for PS4? I'm assuming it's digital only at this stage?

The second reward tier on the kickstarter is a physical release. Doesn't say anything about it being platform specific so I imagine it includes Ps4.
I'm not sure if they are planning to make a large scale physical release or of if they'll just do it for the kickstarter though

They updated the listing to reflect that there will be physical copies for PS4 and PC:

Would be nice if that PC version isn't just a steam code in a box, but it's 2020. Can't have nice things like that anymore.

I've beaten the game multiple times with the tablet on the shelf and a Pro controller in hand. There's a dedicated button to switching the screen so technically all challenges can be completed without the tablet. Hopefully they redesign a few spots to remove the need completely but we'll see.

I have to believe there will be a Xbox version also. How are you going to build a fanbase, if you skip a platform routinely.

You didn't have to play with the tablet if you did, certain parts used the tablet screen and TV screen for different views for example you would run into a building and the action would be on the tablet screen and the TV would be a street view outside the building, it also allowed touch screen input for some actions I used a pro controller and just had the tablet next to me for those scenes, other people just used picture in picture mode on their TV, I think that kinda thing actually implemented into the game could be cool, maybe they will do it to look like comic book panels.

Depends on who you talk to. Personally, I'd say yes. It's one of the best games I've ever played and fell into my all-time top ten straight away. There are few games out there with the same blend of freshness, spectacle, heart, surprise, variety, and sheer volume of content. It's basically a Hideki Kamiya's greatest hits compilation where he turns everything up to 11. I'd say its his best game after RE2.

Use of the Gamepad was optional, it'll be fine on PS4.

Some top tier comedy in this thread.

Going to have to pull out the Wii U and download the demo for this to see if I personally enjoy it. (I didn't realise it had a demo),
The response to this kickstarter means only good things for Platinum and that makes me very happy.

Also for people that keep asking: the devs have already said that the gameplay mechanics predated the WiiU gamepad, so not to worry about it being "shoehorned" onto one screen and a controller. (Paraphrased)

Thats great to read, I love most of the game developed by platinum. I'll see if the performance is good on switch, or ill get it for ps4, when it releases.

Alternative soundtrack is the new biggest goal at $1.75 million.

Already at $1.2 million so it's gonna blow past that, especially as more gaming sites signal-boost the campaign.

I'm glad that a better tutorial / on-screen indicators is pretty much the first thing they talk about on the KS campaign page. They clearly know there were issues in the original game and aim to fix 'em.

I wonder what the extra content will be. Hope we get another stage and/or a boss-rush arena (though it would only apply to certain bosses). The 2D Luca adventure seems like a throwaway, tbh.

EDIT: I'm always amazed when the higher tiers of a KS sell out so quickly. 50 backer slots at the $500 tier, gone. 25 slots at the $755 tier, also gone. 7 slots (21 total) at the $1000, $1500, and $1800 tiers? All gone. :messenger_fearful:

Out of curiosity, why no Xbox version?
Adding a park of 50 millions users to your potential buyers probably makes too much sense.

250k required to port to PS4, but 500k required to add a time attack mode or make a 2D game :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not being able to find 50k to port the game to Switch, forced into launching a Kickstarter... Kind of a joke. Nintendo would have paid for this obviously, especially at such low price.

The cost of porting a big HD game like TW101 is alleged to be about a million dollars give or take, so 50k wouldn't have covered it. I'm guessing the port is already done hence the imminent release, and that Tencent paid the bills. And this strange Kickstarter is to a) offset said bills, and b) gauge interest.

We know that PG approached Nintendo about a port, or possibly borrowing the license, and they told PG that they could either do it with Nintendo, implying that Nintendo would cover the cost of the port, or go it alone and take it to other platforms. They went with the latter.

The biggest issue with the game is that it has a rather steep learning curve and doesn't do a particularly good job at explaining itself or teaching the player how to play. I love the game but I have to admit that for the first half I didn't quite know what I was doing and I wasn't truly 100% comfortable with the combat until NG+ (once it "clicks" it's amazing though). So I can definitely see how to some it was frustrating or just bad. They have said they'll try to improve this aspect (better tutorials and such) so hopefully that helps with this.

But it's also the world and style which made it stand out to me. It's like a self aware love letter to both super sentai and over the top anime, as if Gurren Lagann and Power Rangers had a baby that was aware of how silly it is. It has a fun sense of humor and a lot of style and yet by the end it's hard not to get hyped by what is going on.
In some ways it's also Platinum and Kamiya looking back at their history and making a game that incorporates elements of everything they've made, from Bayonetta to Metal Gear Rising, Viewtiful Joe and Okami. I don't want to spoil anything but there's some hilarious self referential stuff in there which makes it clear that a lot of their joy and pride made it into the game. I'm sure they are proud of most of their stuff, but here it's like..... "Let it be know beyond any doubt that this is a Platinum game!!!"

Oh and the localization is fantastic. I usually go straight to japanese voices in japanese games but this is one of the few I actually prefer to play in english.

It's not perfect and if I had to make an unbiased review I doubt I would have rated it much higher than most reviews it actually got. But the game had me grinning from start to finish like a kid watching his favorite cartoon, and that's something no other game did this gen.

Also yeah it will play fine on Ps4. You change weapons by drawing different shapes which you could do with the touchscreen on the gamepad, but I found it easier and more comfortable to just draw them with the analog sticks anyway.

If the Switch port is already done, asking for 50k is ridiculous.

Wasnt there a thread just yesterday where everyone saying how they were sick and tired of reboots and remasters? I was one of them. I would have been more ok with just release it, but a KS? really?

Just set a 5M goal for an Xbox version already.

They should just start a separate kickstarter for the Xbox version and see if people put their money where their mouth is.

The purpose of the kickstarter is to ensure there's enough interest to prevent them wasting money on a Remaster nobody wants.

Remasters of very popular and easy to get games, or devs going for reboots of the same old tired franchises for the fifth time is one thing.
A really cool game that's currently only available on a crappy console that no one bought getting a new chance with a wider release on newer and more popular platforms is something completely different.

Also, Platinum just released a new IP last year (Astral Chain), are working on another new IP right now (Babylon's Fall), a sequel to one of their most popular franchises (Bayonetta 3) and ,based on that website, 3 other unannounced projects too. So it's not like this port is getting in the way of them doing other stuff too.

Man Bayonetta 3 is never coming out.

Most likely because they know sales figures on Xbox will be next to nothing. W101 is considered a risky project so a port to Xbox was probably ruled out since the games target audience is found on Switch or PS4. Either that or Platinums relationship with MS is soured beyond repair, and now that P is self publishing they ignore Xbox.

I'm in the second category. I've tried really hard to like it back in the Wii U days because I generally enjoy these beat em up/hack n slash type games but I could never get into TW101. To me it's the perfect summary of everything I hate about Kamiya's game design, this huge hodgepodge of poorly digested arcade influences that interrupt the flow of the core gameplay. I wish I could enjoy the prospect of endlessly replaying the bootleg Viewpoint shooter sections but I can't.

That being said it's a hugely ambitious game and it's a good thing it gets a second chance to find a bigger audience.

Switch gamers bout to pay for all future ports to get made by Kickstarter XD.

I'd actually be down for more kickstarters to make "riskier" ports or localizations.

I'd be in for a kickstarter to localize Yakuza Ishin or getting Lost Odyssey on PC, Or getting Ninja Gaiden 1 (black) and 2 on PC, etc

The Wii U version was already locked at 60 FPS, so assuming performance doesn't dip I'd love to see this in 4K.

The Wii U version "targeted" 60fps. but the reality was closer to low 40's and even less than 30fps when things got too crazy:

So I don't know if they'll pull off 4K 60fps on pro. (at least consistent 60fps)

That's a good point, I do remember it dipping sometimes during intense action sequences.

I think it's more plausible that it would perform better on Switch compared to Wii U, to say nothing of the PS4 version, but you are correct it is possible they'll use an unlocked "targeted" 60fps.

I'm hoping for locked 60fps option even if it means it's not in 4K. That's my personal priority, the resolution is icing on the cake.

Yeah resolution is a bonus, what I'm looking forward to is playing all the crazier scenes in actual 60fps because I remember the drops in performance being rather notorious to me

The aliasing on the textures -- specifically, the jaggies on the "shine" of a lot of textures including all the hero suits, anything made of metal, anything made of plastic/vinyl, etc -- was awful so hopefully that gets cleaned up too.
