What is an obscure and relatively unknown game that you think everyone needs to play?

I know I've mentioned this in another thread, but this game is excellent:
Superb metroidvania with secrets galore, great platforming, and pretty good combat. Definitely made me cuss a lot.

One of the best games I've ever experienced as a kid who didn't know games can involve such pure puzzle solving mechanics. From the Motel level to the memorable Garden of Eden-esque level where you have to solve a jigsaw puzzle!

I never completed the game because I was too young to figure out how! Maybe this year I'll make an LTTP for it ;)

Definitely worth completing, the last part is crazy!

Good memories, the monastery part in particular, loved it and the scary atmosphere, as well as the awesome environments

It's among my top 10 games ever

So an actual obscure game that I can think of Zamzara for the C64, Which was an Alien Shootem up.

But the thing is I was 9 the last time I played it, the full game came free with a Magazine but was released to retail, it’s certainly not one I hear people talk about.

I forgot to add these 2 gems

I only played them back in 2012-13 when they were released on PSN, but man were they awesome, very fun games with RE-esque gameplay and a fantastic story and voice acting, a big shame Eidos were greedy bastard that caused the cancellation of the 3rd game cause of their mishandeling of Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness.

The Talos Principle is my definition of an underrated game this gen. It's every bit as good as the top stuff like Bloodborne, The Witcher 3 and Nier Automata. It belongs in that group. If you have even a passing interest in gaming and still haven't checked it out, please stop shitposting here for a second and grab it RIGHT NOW. It's available on a shit-ton of platforms so you really have no excuse.

Jackal for the NES.

It's like Ikari Warriors but you're a Jeep, and it has co-op.

Was the only kid on my block who had this game lol - not that anyone cared people only ever wanted to play Contra or Punch Out it seemed.

The Armored Core games. Now that From has become every gamers darling, it makes me sad to see that there is still few people to give a damn about their older titles.

Addictive, but after a week or two you probably won't play it again or grind through the achievements.

But I think I bought it for $5 and it was worth it.

I think my high score is 100,000 or so.

Two immediately come to mind, though Enslaved has gotten more attention lately, it kind of fell on it's face at launch.

Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom. Really fun action/platformer where you and a monster work your way towards freedom. You control the protagonist Tepeu, but only give directions to the Majin Teotl (similar to Last Guardian, but with more precision). I loved the art style of the game, and really enjoyed Tepeu and Teotl's inteactions.

Enslaved. An excellent take on Journey to the West. It was fun to play with a good traversal system and combat. Voice acting was really well done. I actually cared about the characters and their relationships. I would kill for a sequel to this game.

Linelight - Unique, clever and relaxing puzzle game with excellent presentation and music.

Octahedron - Arcade platformer with creative mechanics. (currently 100% positive on steam)

The greatest score written for a puzzle game EVER, not to mention one of the best puzzle games ever developed: Intelligent Qube. Hattori-dono was in the zone when he composed the score as well as it’s sequel:

I finished a playthrough of both of these games back in the PS3 era but don't remember very much about them. I do remember Majin being a more unique game overall.

Best thing I can remember about Enslaved was its art direction and how pretty Trip(itaka) looks.

Recently discovered Arx Fatalis and I love that game, yo.

Great suggestions but those games are hardly obscure.

When you say Death Gate do you mean the Weiss Hickman series? Because that sounds awesome!

Yeah that's the one. It's the perfect world for an RPG, but unfortunately paying for the licence to worlds is an unattractive move for most companies. It would be a great follow up to Game of Thrones for streaming companies too...

Yeah, i mean, Oblivion was a joke.. i think ground control seriously needs to get a tsunami of appreciation for how it directly influenced every 3d rts from world in conflict to deserts of karak and beyond, not enough people pay it lip service... JkII and Metroid Prime I'm really just trying to stand up for games with sequels/spiritual successors (Fallen Order and 3 other MP titles, respectively) which consequently might not get thought about anymore... Stick Soldiers was a browser game/usb game in the early 00s I'm sure that one at least is legit obscure, at least to later generations.

I don't know if it qualifies as relatively obscure but Alien Soldier for the Mega Drive is a game that I kept wishing M2 would port for the 3D Classics project so that more of us could play it without resorting to the Wii Virtual Console or Sega's Genesis Collection. And because I loved the stereoscopic 3D in general as well as the added stuff M2 tends to make for them.

I guess I'll just hope M2 ports it to current gen.

Greedfall. Amazing game. Spiders studio could be the next Bioware as long as EA does not get their greedy hands on them. The current Bioware is a shadow of its former self thanks to EA.

A Game Boy game called Out of Gas.

It's kind of like Chip's Challenge, but you are on a hover bike.

Not many gameplay vids on Youtube. Could only find a few lol

I would love to see it in a high quality TV show.

Iggy's Reckin' Balls on the N64. Very unique game, it's hard to describe what it's like because there's nothing similar. Kind of a mix of Mario Kart, Bionic Commando, platformers, and puzzle games. You race three others to the top of a tower using jumps, grapples, and item pickups with 100 towers to race on.

Here's a pb video of a speedrunner I know, you can just skip around to get an idea of what the gameplay is like.

One of the most immersive games I've ever played thanks to an old roomie who knew how to read different Japanese scripts and a list we saw on Gamefaqs.

Hungry Ghosts is a lot like King's Field IV (or a first person Dark Souls 1 if you're unfamiliar with the KF series) if it was an open ended survival horror game focused on puzzles and exploration instead of combat (present in sparse amounts). It isn't a perfect game by any means but a damn fine one if you can dig in and definitely one of the most atmospheric games available on the PS2--though most of that atmosphere can be attributed to amazing monster designs that approach BB levels of quality.

Cons: Controls can be unwieldy, mainly because you use the right stick to perform actions and attack while L1+LS is used to look. Some actions can take more time than you'd like as a result but it adds to the immersion
Menus can be too cluttered
A few guide dang it moments

So basically King's Field IV mixed with Amnesia/Penumbra.

Amazing game... as curiosity It was designed by Tokuro Fujiwara creator of Ghost 'n Goblins.
