Dreams Review Thread

It's not going to stay at 96. That's only 5 reviews (mostly from official or playstation mags), now with two more it's already down to 92. It will end up in the mid 80s.
Would still be a good outcome.

I get your point about it being more a toolkit than a game, though.

Preordered this, loved some of the games I saw like Sim-city type game and the Godzilla one etc.

Deserves 90+ easily but I'm sure some bullshit site will use this opportunity for attention...
I bought it in Early Access. Didn't even know that there were pre-orders for it.

Absolutely amazing reviews. Sony are gods. This will be the game of the year and sell millions.

Is that better, Mods?

I guess nuance is lost on you.

Stop projecting some persecution complex over a known very low effort troll who does this in every Sony thread, and has warnings racked up as one of the highest on the site.

Take it to the Meta thread if you want to complain. Then we can address the differences between constructive criticism in classic OT/Review threads, and driveby shitposts designed to derail around the bait. You want to shitpost, take it to an MHK or Matt's fanatical clowns thread.

My post mentioned that, despite good reviews, it still probably won't sell well.

You removed it for, I quote "This is a review thread. Please keep it on topic."

How way my post off topic? It was the EXACT thread topic :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Tempted.

I just have the sneaky suspicion that it will be one of those 'products' where I think it's a genuinely incredible achievement, but never actually play.

Why wouldn't you want an endless supply of free software like this?

You can get free games everywhere. As for me personally, I was kind of impressed during the beta with some of the tools, as we spoke about, but not really impressed with the overall project as a consumer product. Without being on PC, its a tough sell, imo, and even than I think it might not work for the average consumer.

I don't think anything is bad per se, actually the opposite.... and I actually don't see anything wrong with the reviews or anything. I have no idea how I would review it, as a tool set.

I removed all off topic posts that were derailing around this post

PC version already exists for free and is infinitely better. Blender + Gimp + Unity 👌

Apologies if you were caught in the crossfire, I will restore your post.

Phew, this is a strange one. I have dabbled around with it for the last months and I have now beaten the campaign. It's cool. But it's very short, less than two hours. And the user created content is fun to look through for an hour or two for me, but there is nothing that would keep me coming back to the game. So I guess that's it? A 2 hour campaign to show off what the engine can do? I am a bit disappointed. I expected at least Media Molecule content the size of LBP considering how long they worked on this. But it's nothing but an appetizer. The only good thing I can say is that I paid just 30 € for it. I knew it was going to be an editor, like their previous games. But if they don't even manage to create a substantial amount of content in five years when they know the ins and outs of the tools (there are some other MM creations but they are really bad compared to Art) - that doesn't bring with it a lot of confidence that the community will create something of the same quality or better.

And since they even think about offering games created in Dreams for money - the value proposition might be even worse in the future. And: If a game ever deserved keyboard and mouse support, it's Dreams. The controls with DS4 or Move controllers are anything but intuitive or efficient. I'd call it a mess. That's one of the main reasons why I don't expect quality community content, while a lot is possible, it is all hidden behind annoying controls.

The highest rated Dream has 25k upvotes right now. That means the early access version did not sell great. I can't see the full version to change that, I'd be surprised if this sells more than a couple of hundred thousand copies at its launch price. And I swear I read several times that MM was creating various content for the retail release, so what happened there? Or did they just take the three games they had and put them together in the package they have now? Because that would explain a lot about the content. It's basically three different games between which you jump from level to level. An adventure type of game and two platformers.

Because it's not? You drive two laps in that wipeout clone and then you give it an upvote and never return to it. It's a cool concept, there's a ton of hours that went into it - but at the end of the day it lacks any gameplay that might keep you hooked. Same with all the art. It's impressive, yes, but there is no real content. It's not free software, it's just a bunch of tech demos.

There's some truth behind this sentiment (for now, deeper games are just a promise that someone else should fulfill in their free time) but the interesting part is also being able to deep dive behind other people's creativity. It's probably not meant at all to let you stay focused on a single dream (although it would be nice to have this content) , you are jumping from one weird/awesome/spooky creation to another. In a broader sense, this is the game, almost like a collection of minigames. Just made of whatever the heck people wants.

While I don't see myself doing intense sessions on Dreams either, I think it's a game that could be the "safe harbor" you constantly return to, when you want to take a look, poke at some stuff, or just decompress by creating some embarassing oddities.

Well I guess the "Early Access" plan was really smart. Now the game launches with high-level user creations on Day 1 for full release purchasers and reviewers.

Imo this dreams is for people who, above all wants to create stuff. That's were the fun is, and when the posibilitues make it truly shine. The gaming part is less enjoyable and i think you apreciate the creations more if you use the tools first. Smoking a joint and going dreamsurfing is a blast though.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
We have never seen such a creative game on this scale before, so this is very new, can we get quality levels? Because that's how you become great, and get sequels, I'm not worried about this game operating on PS4's hardware but I'm mostly optimistic about this game.

I guess they never heard of modding or mod communities.

Push Square - 10/10
It may have taken the better part of a decade to make, but the arrival of Dreams feels significant. It represents a whole new way for people to make things and share them with the world. Media Molecule has made a suite of tools that feels intuitive to use, but more than that, it's built a social platform where players can collaborate and explore the imaginations of others. It's a technical marvel, a creative miracle, and one of the most innovative games in years.

The creations are already impressive, can you imagine a year from now? With these tools, people will have built a crazy amount of full games.

Their previous game ( litle big planet 1+2+3) are doing great without PC releases

Enough with the port begging

No man, i have a PS4, i just dont see it having a great future on this console alone, where the vast majority of people are casual players vs the PC crowd.

funny how when people shit here on EVERY xbox thread no one gives a shit. its only a problem when someone shits on sony. hypocrisy
Maybe because on xbox threads it's mostly valid criticism based on Phil Spencers continuous PR spinning, whereas on Sony threads it's mostly baseless assumptions as Sony is awfully quiet?

Mine unlocked lastnight, jesus the Mario tech demo is awesome.... he moves and jumps exactly like in Odyssey etc.

Some really impressive demos and pieces of gameplay, blown away by how creative some people can be.

And this

During the review i watched it was 2 minutes of semi complaining about the controls and could hear in their tone "It needs m/kb support" without saying it, so not to be murdered.

I’ll buy it today. But I made my mind up on that years ago, seeing some of the reviews is just a cherry on top. I like the thought of something more slower paced, creative and open. A lot of the time I’ll power up any given console with no real thought as to what I want to play and I end up bouncing around from game to game. Perhaps I’ll focus down on a game like this where I can make it be whatever I choose, instead of whatever any singular game would have it be by design.

I already have a suitably fucked up idea ready to put in to motion 😈

Congrats to the team, though from my understanding this is less of a game and more of a toolkit. Might pick it up in time once there are some really good creations!
