Xbox Game Pass | Increase Your Backlog Inside

I have friends that refuse to play games that are not on Steam.

They’ll be tossing up wether to purchase some game I’m playing for $50; and from my pedestal atop the hundred games included I snort in derision and say “Just get Gamepass bro, it’s like a dollar.”

But there is something about the impermanency of ownership over the games; the lack of steam-acheivements; and human stubborness that is stopping these blokes. The way I see it, the price is so low that any other concern doesn’t apply; and it stops me worrying about the steam backlog mentality.

You know back in the 90s and 00s when you’d hire some video game from a rental place? You didn’t add each of those games to some backlog of shame to weigh you down. No one cares if you platinum games or not. Just enjoy your free time.

Thanks for the thread, Mista. Been subscribed to Game Pass PC since E3 and loving it. I need to stop buying games at all, because they keep adding stuff that I bought a couple of months previously (Plague Tale, Children of Morta, etc.)

Thanks for taking one (several) for the team.

In a world without gamepass, i would never ever buy, rent, watch gameplay videos of Gris. What a lovely game! I almost cried in the end(i didn't understand it completely(statue's identity crisis) but that grief got me). I can't stand walking simulators, or games without enjoyable gameplay. I can't play a game just for the story. But this game brings artistic storytelling, perfect soundtrack, clever puzzles and tight platforming together beautifully. Your character evolves over time and gets new abilities. That and the story keeps you motivated till the end.

I completed it in one sit. It was great fun. Good jod Nomada studio:messenger_clapping: , my eyes on you from now on!

Played an hour and a half of Indivisible today. Seems alright so far, the battle system is interesting and could get hectic later on. There’s some decent humor in it too. I chuckled a few times.
That’s next on the to-do list after Plague Tale, which I bought last weekend when it was on sale.....and now is on Gamepass. Don’t mind supporting smaller devs though so it’s fine!

Yea I bought Plague Tale on sale. It's worth it. Hopefully it's really getting a sequel.

Slowly working through GTA V. I played it on PS3 at launch to completion and have tried to play a few times on PC since but always get bored at the first heist. Not sure why it's clicking better now, but I'm at the 3rd heist on Xbone and loving it.

I'm surprised at how well the satire holds up still, given that the game is ~6.5 years old now.

I've got Indivisible downloaded to play when I'm not replaying GTA V.

They should fix their game on Gamepass PC/windows store before that. There wasn't any option to change resolution in that garbage. My mouse stucked in some part of the screen and i couldn't play it. That problem is common, and some dev said "we are working on it" on their forums, like many many months ago.

Bought it on steam afterwards, which is great.

Here is another gem. Would you buy "Kingsway", a rogue-lite medieval fantasy arpg which you fight in a PC desktop with fast moving pop-up windows!, after reading reviews of it, seeing some screenshots and watching gameplay videos of it? I wouldn't. But i'm playing it right now, 5 hours straight, thanks to this service!

You know what though? That quest system is yucky. It looks eerily similar to Destiny 2’s bounty system; it’s using FOMO to get people into this ideal habbit:
  • Playing a game every day.
  • Logging into the mobile app every day.
People are going to want that 1000 point monthly reward. They’ll realise that they need to use the mobile app at a frequency they wouldn’t normally use for the sake of the daily points.

The mobile app is basically a way of maintaining customer engagement outside of typical gaming hours; and basically serves to get customers interested in new products.

I used to ‘play’ Fire Emblem Heroes; which involved basically logging in every day; collecting what I considered ‘easy-money’ rewards and using the currency to spin the gatcha wheel. It became a habit that I would sneak in during the downtime at work. (NeoGaf browsing took over that.)

This is that ‘easy-money’ that tricks people into habits that benefit the creators. It will only put stress onto people who would otherwise just play Gamepass for the actual games.

I got 126K points without giving a damn and without even checking the quests. So easy money right there but unfortunately I can’t redeem them🤷🏻‍♂️

i never would have heard of this game if you hadn’t posted this

It’s pretty damn fun

I think these titles are also for console, according to Xbox's official news site.

Gotta run through the whole Wolfenstein series me thinks.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Looks like FFXV is the Royal Edition. I bought the season pass and never played the episodes. 😔
No time like the present to remedy that! Honestly the episodes worked a bit better than the game itself as far as I'm concerned. They were short, fun, and pretty story heavy. Each was unique in it's own way and play style.

Go Go Neo Rangers!
Remind me what the royal edition is? Like I know Google will tell me but it's Namura joint. Does it actually chnage anything?

I’m trying to finish of a Shadow of the Tomb Raider before it leaves Gamepass, but due to this recommendation I’ll check them out next. 👍

Did you play comrades at all? Any opinions on that if you did?

It adds a bunch of endgame stuff into chapter 14 and includes all the DLC episodes (except Aardyn) if I remember correctly,

I haven't played Comrades at all so I can't really say. Though I've seen some neat characters created for it on the PC with mods :p

The only episode I haven't played (yet) is the newest, Episode Ardyn. Most of these are usually less than two hours in length each. You'll need to have played the main game to understand where they fit into the story, but they don't really relate to each other at all so in my experience they were a good "palette cleanser" between longer games.

I beat the game when it released and never went back to it even as the episodes released, so it might be worth it to try to do a replay again and see all the stuff square added and fixed since the initial release.

Edit: Looks like they are including episode Ardyn as well. Bonus for me since that is the one I never bought.

I am guessing its not worth another play through to see the new stuff?
TBH I’m not sure, I know they added cutscenes but the ch 14 stuff you would have access to even if you beat the game, it is just part of the over world after you defeat Ardyn. So you could go back and play it without replaying the entire game.

Guess I'll just play my existing backlog for a couple months until it goes on sale again 😔
I really want to buy The Surge 2 but couldn’t justify buying a new game when I’ve got so many others installed that I also want to play. My friend bought me Jedi: Fallen Order on release and I’ve been chipping away at it between Gamepass games.

I let Gamepass lapse and I was like “I’m free!” :messenger_open_mouth: I usually give people the advice “No one cares if you complete games, play what you want.” but I’ve been finding my own advice hard to take. Because it’s not like eating your vegetables before desert; more like finishing your current cake before ordering a second. But that second cake though! :messenger_face_screaming:

Gamepass is like being given a hundred cakes. :messenger_ghost:
