The 2019 season of the GT Sport FIA Online Championship was action-packed and full of drama and controversy. Across six live events we saw some amazing highs and some disheartening lows, but if you tuned in to watch you were far from alone.

Speaking at the launch of the 2020 season, Polyphony Digital studio head Kazunori Yamauchi revealed the startling viewership numbers for the last year. In total, across all of the GT broadcast platforms, 47.2 million people tuned in. That roughly breaks down to 27.9m on Facebook (59%), 11.7m on YouTube (24.8%), and the balance on other services.

The figures represent 296% of 2018’s viewing figures, which came in at 15.9m in total. Although it’s worth noting that content uploads also doubled, from 719 to 1,544, each platform saw a much higher overall viewership increase. Engagement — that’s people liking, retweeting, or otherwise sharing content — also increased by 300%.

Sumarry:

2018 GT Sport FIA Online Championship
Total viewers: 15.9 million
Final (Igor Fraga win): 4 million

2019 GT Sport FIA Online Championship
Total viewers: 47.2 million
Final (Mikail Hizal win): 11.6 million

Well GTS still had a lot of work to reach the avg. of 90 million viewers from each event in Formula 1 (real life).

It's a shame Hizal won't be participating again due to his studies.

In other news Fraga has now made the step up to Formula 3:

Will be interesting to see if he can make it all the way up the ladder to F1.

Seems like Fraga will be back at Monaco.
All depends if the schedule of Formula 3 and GTS matches close each other.
Or maybe I read that about Hizal and he will back in the next event of the season.

Anyway that increase the chances for others TOP10.

No, YouTube is a public platform, where is the source for the 1.1.7 million viewers? There should be a video(s) that show it.

Go though this and find all the content related to the events:

Then go through these various language playlist and count the views:

I might have missed some languages so you can do your own due diligence. Not sure if live stream viewers count on the totals shown on the on demand videos. Hope you have a lot of time on your hands.

Denial started.

You can start here: https://www.youtube.com/user/GranTurismoOfficial

There is 7 languages... 2 cups (National and Manufacturer) and dozens of live streaming events every year.
After all that work you will only get the On Demand viewers that is what YouTube shows to public.
You will still lack the Live viewers.

There is 7 languages... what will take him a lot of time is that the pre-season is one round per week :D
There is around 220 videos to sum up.

BTW to know the actual watchers to the 2 types you need to be the owner of the video: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853833?hl=en

YouTube shows only the On Demand viewers to public.
In YouTube Studio you have all that data including unique viewers... that is why it is easy to them get this info.

You don't need to do that much work with modern tools.

Nothing shows 11.7 million on that channel and none of the GT forums I have found can account for the 11.7 either and are not able to see where it's from. Unless they are counting videos that aren't directly related to the story. When you use tools to view unique users on the videos that can show it they make this more unlikely.

It doesn't seem to be accurate and I find it funny that this site somehow is as of now the only one with this news and none of the other gaming or even GT leaning sites are. The same site that gave 2 million for Forza 5 with no proof and no other outlet reporting it, which OP also said was official yet never came from Microsofts mouth and wasn't able to provide another close or direct source for it.

EDIT:

On further inspection this is not likely what the actual audience is, the context of the article is implying live tune in but even if you combine live Facebook with FIA relevant non-live videos you come nowhere near the over 20 million that the article states let alone over 15 from what I can see:

The only other major official page I can find ended posting in 2018:

So where is he over 20 million coming from on Facebook? None of it adds up, why is this not a public announcement in the press or social media with a break down like they did for 2018? The YouTube stats are also inaccurate.

Don't get me wrong it does seem clear that Facebook got more views than YouTube but not over 20 million live+offline combined for FIA 2019

On the forums of the site used as a source in the OP, there has been posts talking about non-unique users in a few threads over the last year. Issue is that even if we assume each video count on every FIA 2019 relevant Facebook video is 1 unique user, we still wouldn't get 20 million views.

In total, YouTube+Facebook is TOGETHER supposed to be over 38 million views but no one can find the numbers on YouTube or Facebook I've seen to get those numbers, and the OP won't either.

Everyone on GAF can do the leg work and you're not going to get those numbers. .The lack of publicity and transparency is also suspect.

So the question is, where did GTPLANET get the 47 million views from, more specifically, the 38+ million for YouTube and Facebook? Are we just supposed to believe the number despite the fact we can't find it?

You are again shaming yourself.

Only the owner of the video has all statics in YouTube... there is no tools that shows you that if you don't own the video.
If you sum the 14 Finals live stream you will get ~550k On Demand watchers plus what it had in Live on the day.
That is only the 14 Finals videos.
There are over 200 more videos for the season.

The increase from 2018 is real and you keep in denial.

BTW the these numbers are not from GTPlanet... they are from PD (Kaz himself shared them) from the live event that happened today in Sidney in commemoration to new Season start.

No I can dispute them right here instead of going to another non-first-party site. We have the access to both social media platforms to check the numbers.

You are again shaming yourself.

Only the owner of the video has all statics in YouTube... there is no tools that shows you that if you don't own the video.

This is the dumbest thing you posted yet, we have total view counts for videos the only thing the owner can see that the public can't is how many of those views are unique, which would obviously be lower. We have access to tools for everything else.

Also i noticed you completely dodged the Facebook discrepancy.

Because the Facebook numbers are BS and you can't make a YouTube excuse for them. How did they get 27 milllion Facebook views Ethomaz? Should we just believe them when there's no proof on their official page(s)? All the FIA 2019 live and offline streams are on Facebook and they don't add up to 27 million put together.

Usually you always claim you have the links but now you don't weird.

It's also important to note that it doesn't take much of a google search to see GTplanet having off numbers, and to find posts from Ethomaz himself also questioning numbers. On that very site.

I'd also still like an answer why Polyphony isn't officially announcing anything and why other outlets aren't picking this up in mass. But they will pick up player and sales numbers before GTplanet does.

I don't have proof.

It's ok man, we know you don't. Just like those Forza 5 numbers you pulled out your behind.

So if anyone can find out how they got to 27 million views on Facebook as of this post feel free to post in the thread because the other GT sites can't find it and the source of the OP has many threads having reservations about those GTplanet exclusive announcements no one else has.

Another failed attempt by Ethomaz.

Ok so you don't want real answers, your sole motivation was to come in here and disrupt the thread.

Got it.
The numbers come from Kaz (PD/Sony) and instead to him go to Sidney ask receipts to him he prefer to say the OP and GTPlanet if faking the numbers :D
Because you know he have tools that are better than the private tools YouTube offer to the owner of the video.

He does that in every thread with real data.
Last time he denied NPD sales ranking.

Got it.

You're disingenuous bs doesn't work here, the report isn't polyphony, it's a site SAYING it's news from Polyphony, if you're curious I did send Polyphony and email. Do you think Sony has hidden Facebook videos in a chest just so they can confuse their fans? Come back to reality.

Not to mention I'm only here because this is another slick Ethomaz thread where he tagged me because he can't get over GT losing in the ForzaVGT thread, which you would have realized if you read the first two posts of the thread.

Ethomaz is still making the claim I should believe Kaz automatically, assuming he did actually say this, when we can easily count all the relevant Facebook videos and it doesn't add up to 27 million, and this wouldn't be the first time PP fluffed numbers. So why announce something that can't be verified unless you guys are on a conspiracy that there are hidden Facebook videos that contain hundreds of thousands to millions of views not visible. Why are no other outlets reporting on this? Wouldn't this be a milestone? Especially for E-sports?

GTplanet also put out 2 million for Forza 5 which no one else including MS ever put out their mouths. Why were they the only ones that got it?

Keep in mind Facebook has the live feeds ad the off-line feeds separates so yes you can count all the numbers and you won't get 27 million for FIA 2019 videos. This is verifiable by anyone on this board who wants to follow the links I posted.

Like I said if you or anyone else has actual proof that backs up the claim then fine, otherwise this is nothing more than MS level MAU fluff.

Also notice Ethomas continues to dodge Facebook every time he posts because he knows he can't find the 27 million (Not to mention yes all youtube views are public outside unique users so that's not a valid argument he's making there either. But I wonder why he keeps deflecting from Facebook. )

SLB1904 SLB1904 lol there's no L to take, learn to count Facebook videos, all the numbers are on their officlal pages there is no 27 million. Where are the other sources?

Let me know when you guys find actual info. I'm bookmarking this page for when the GTplanet forums itself call out the numbers like they did some months ago and then see where Ethomaz will be.

The only person being disingenuous here is you. You are the one disputing the numbers and questioning their accuracy, therefore the onus is on you to do the investigating to ascertain whether your feelings are true or not.

I've provided you with the places where you can go and do your own due diligence to verify the source of the numbers, but yet you're still here typing paragraphs of spiel which ultimately amount to nothing more than your thoughts and feelings on the matter rather than anything factual.

Monaco Finals: 1.2 million + 1.4 million + 29k + 45k + 39k + 44k + 41k + 47k (I did not get all videos)
Monaco Semi-finals: 725k + 74k (I did not get all videos)

You have over 3 million there just with Monaco event lol

Afro Republican Afro Republican causing shit and spewing nonsense once again. Sigh.

Projecting your behavior onto me doesn't work well in your case.

BTW I was called here but you usually don't read threads just post one lines that don't contribute 90% of the time, so of course you probably missed that second post. You know the one liners that continue to mess up threads even though you accuse others of that.

The only person being disingenuous here is you. You are the one disputing the numbers and questioning their accuracy, therefore the onus is on you to do the investigating to ascertain whether your feelings are true or not.

Don't use words if you don't know how to use them. Also you haven't provided anything all you have proven is you aren't reading. I again ask you, what is the point of linking me to a third-party site to ask questions about something they heard from another source? Surely the forums there would have had this information if that was useful but they don't.

I asked relevant questions that are accurate for every GTplanet source, where's the official polyphony announcements all over the place? Sony? Any other gaming source that doesn't take it from GTplanet and also got it from "kaz"? Why would they announce facebook numbers directly yet the number can't be found? I also said I send polyphony an email, did you miss that part to?

What's funny is if this was a Forza thread and the context and sources remained the same this would be a 40 page thread about if MS is lying. You aren't really helping things.

Now once more, let me know if anyone can actually provide answers. It's more likely that the source for this news, GTplanet, the forums will call out the viewership at some point and this will be an interesting thread to come back to since GTplanets reliability is already shaky, what with their fake Forza numbers and all that no one else had.

I already know Ethomaz doesn't have any so if anyone does feel free. Feel free to also count those Facebook videos and come to the same conclusion I did.

You have over 3 million there just with Monaco event lol

That's nice, 3 million isn't 27 million, and there aren't that many videos with 1 million views related to Fia 2019 on either the off-line or live videos, you aren't going to get the number if you keep counting.

Stopping at "3" and saying "lol" prove nothing.

Let me know when you find the missing videos for 27 million otherwise there's nothing else to talk about if you stop at 3.

Edit:

Lol GHG GHG why are you so dishonest like you are below? You're asking me to ask a third-party site for answers when I already told you I emailed the actual source, are you having some sort of comprehension problem? You're not even making a valid argument, GT Planet is not the source for the numbers, they are just the only ones reporting it. Also i just got their opinion (one from an admin as well) from the forum further down. Stop acting like you know what's up.

From the site of OP, red is admin:

Very misleading. These are not unique viewers. The whole digital user metric PR puff pieces are starting to become cancerous in the amount of disinformation they try and peddle.

Wait until you find out how TV ratings are generated.

Then you look at the other side of the coin, where they struggled to "sell" a handful of free tickets this weekend

Figures are virtually meaningless, especially from places like Facebook where something simply appearing on your feed is enough to count as a view, where engagement is everything.

Its all well and good saying "Engagement is up 300% from last year", but 2018s competition only started in mid-May and they're pushing out far more content.

The TL;DR is this isn't as impressive as it seems.

We did cover that in the article - there's roughly a 100% increase in uploads (700-something to 1500-something)

I just think its particularly troubling in terms of how this is actually comparing to real Motorsport, there's a lot of comparisons being drawn to real Motorsport events in terms of viewership numbers, but in Esports you have fewer avenues to draw a profit compared to real Motorsport, so the truth is they need to be doing those extra views.

I edited my previous post with a few extra points as well.

Of course, like a certain other emotorsports event, they could just buy 1m views for their launch video in among the other videos getting 1,500 tops.

Seems that the consensus there is it's misleading but it's nothing new so whatever.

There you go.

If funny how you quote one line of the reply's and you doesn’t understand what they are talking about :D :D :D

The increase in popularity is real different of what you bullshit before but that was expected from you.

Delusional.

This didn't happen.

Also are you saying the forum consensus are delusional? There's nothing that I am omitting that would change the overall opinion of the thread, I know you're desperately trying to use the ol' "you're missing info" shtick but the conclusions don't change.

But stay losing Etho.

This site is an anomoly.

Sony fans are the majority, yet Forza fans greatly outnumber the GT fans.
