Dreams opens lower than 1.5k in Japan (Retail only, does not factor early access, policestationx tries to start console war)

So around 3k in UK and below 1.5k in Japan.

For comparison, MM other games 1st week of sales
Tearaway first week - 1,294
LBP first week - 47,086
LBP2 first week - 24,736

Updated

The actual number has been confirmed.

993 copies in the launch week.

36./00. [PS4] Dreams Universe (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2020.02.14} - 993 / NEW

The software itself is great, but what it lack is some flavor (Mario, Sackboy) to move the userbase first. I know there's a story mode made for these, but that's just not enough to attract mass interest.

This is poor thread attempt tbh...
- Not mentioning that the numbers are only retail sales.
- Not mentioning the early access version which already attracted the fans of the idea/studio months ago and they don't need a second copy.
- What the f does Life of Black Tiger have do with any of it?

Of course I will agree it sold poorly in retail in those 2 markets, but that doesn't mean that the interest in the game is close to zero.

policestationx policestationx & J JaffeLion are some of the most pathetic human brings I have ever seen in my life.

The both of you will never make something as great or even close to Dreams. The only thing you'll ever make in your lives is fools of yourselves in front of the whole GAF community.

Well, two non PS fans dancing on what they feel is the grave of a PS title they never cared about. It is a nice break from posting the latest good article they find about the console saviour they seem fond of....

It was published by Famitsu.

Wonder if calling it "Net Yaroze 2020" in Japan would of been better. Probably not though considering how old and niche Net Yaroze content for Ps1 was.

This is proof that Sony aren't money whores like Micro$oft penis.

If MM was a first party Micro$oft studio, it would've closed down a LONG TIME AGO, A REAL LONG TIME AGO! WAY BEFORE SONY HAS PS2 KITS! WAY BEFORE DAVE CHAPPELLE HAD TWO KIDS!

You're missing the point. I'm not questioning that the game less than 1.5k copies in retail in Japan. I'm questioning how you've presented this message in your thread. The first post should at least include the info that it's retail only.
I think everyone in gaming forums are aware of Famitsu is reporting physical sales in weekly basis, they do reporting digital number on a few months but their estimation is unreliable.

When Japanese sales are coming from MC/Famitsu/Dengeki it's always physical sales because none of those tracking companies have any idea about Japanese digital sales unless it was coming directly from game publisher itself.

Not completely related but for me i think the early access creators launch was a mistake.

It was treated almost as a regular launch by journalists last year cause they went to hands-on events, they had to write their impressions, etc.

By the time the game actually came out for real, most of the people have already moved on cause they have already talked about it.

Hahahahaha niiiceeeee.
I've seen a ton of opinions on Gaf. a lot i disagreed with but respected. but you. you are happy that a studio which spent 7 years making something new in a industry bombarded by the same type of games is not selling? honestly wtf is wrong with you? A lot of people here are from the game industry or a industry related to it or they simply love the industry, gaming has found ways to bring people with different opinions together and we have a smart ass like you who thinks that its funny that something great is not selling, and this is not opinion, dreams is loved by almost everyone in the industry for what it does and for the doors it opens to future creators by showing them how fun creating can be.

So how about you grow up a bit or if you cant do that, just shut up.

I still feel that they could turn this around. For example release a new expansion related to any famous brand/genre (PS has tons in their portfolio) as a unique theme, release assets pack, programming presets and all that for it, then make some sort of contests and showcases, make it seasonal. The key is to make the tools and presets as accessable and broad as possible, while also keeping the original complexity of it.

Or release it on PC lol, there's nothing any more compelling as a strategy than this. Until then, only wannabe demos and copycat galore would exists as repeating patterns, the game needs direction to grow imo.

Some people must have been waiting an entire gen for a moment like this. Lol

For years it has been hard to explain what Dreams even is exactly, even lots of people who have been aware of Dreams all this time are still scratching their heads.
Ofcourse it wouldn't sell millions right out the gate.

More popular streamers are slowly picking it up though, like Arekkz and I has Cupcakes.
It'll gradually grow bigger and bigger as more people create more awesome stuff and word of mouth starts spreading like wildfire.

Gamers should be celebrating the fact that MM actually managed to pull it off, because in time it'll affect console gaming as a whole.

Fabulously optimistic.

More like once in a while you will stumble upon some random Dreams video on Youtube, watch it for a couple of minutes and then move on.

A much more realistic outcome

P.s. you dont have to be an xbox fanboy or whatever to think this way. I know i'm not.

Who knows.
I do know people are getting jobs out of it, which is something I care more about.

Gamers are extremely narrow-minded.

$60,000 in revenue and that's a lot of money!

Notsureifserious.gif... I absolutely expect Dreams to be the biggest financial flop of this generation - there are tens-hundreds of programmers that earn 100k+ a year, let alone all the team leaders, execs etc., all combined earning shitloads of money in the past half a decade, or whatever it took to make the game, so now the title must sell enormous units to break even, and who's gonna buy it? It's not a proper game per se, rather a platform/semi-engine to make games, and that's not what people want, people want to buy game, to play games, they want a final product, not means to make them.

What does Hekllpoint Dev think though?

Fixed ;)

MmDreamQueen, who every user follows automatically, currently has 226,512 followers.

So Dreams' installbase is at least that size (there are also people that unfollow MmDreamQueen).

That isn't a bad start for something like Dreams.

You mean someone got a job in gamedev after creating a level in Dreams? I dunno seems far fetched. Don't you need to know something in programming especially if you want to be a game designer?

MediaMolecule hired at least 2 players based on their work during Early Access.

Also:

I also know of at least one other person as well.

But you're free to doubt it. I'm just saying.

I'll wait on Sony official number for that, unfortunately Sony always refused to give underperformed games its sales numbers.

Recent games without sales report from Sony
- Days Gone
- Death Stranding
- Dreams

What numbers? Post launch sales, or Early Access as well?
