Yes, but I think that might be why Sony targeted late 2019 originally. They knew Microsoft couldn't release a next gen console two years after Xbox One X. So 2020 was always the target for Microsoft. I think and according to jim ryan we will have the PS4 as the center and "engine" of sony, so I think for the first couple of years there will be PS4/PS5 AAA exclusive games!

All I said was 1st party PS5 exclusives, nothing more.

You can betcha that Sony will have 1st party PS5 exclusives to show when properly announcing PS5, to tease what we can expect.
Whether that is AAA-worthy or not is completely irrelevant.

And PS4 being the main source of income is a given. The same applied to PS2 when PS3 launched and PS3 when PS4 launched.
That's how generational transitions work.

Regardless of what their strategy is, or how it'll work out for them, and for the industry as a whole. As far as what they're doing at this moment in time, I don't give a flying fuck about the PS5. I'm not even really hyped for Xbox Series X, especially with that god awful name, so this isn't some console fanboy reaction. I'm having a hard time articulating my thoughts on the topic, because PS4 still has the games I want to play, so I find myself begrudgingly hanging on to the system even though I have not been happy with their attitude towards the games I like, and the lack of value they seem to care about offering the consumer.

Microsoft fucked up big time with the release of Xbox One, and I think Phil Spencer has been doing a hell of a job trying to wipe that slate clean by increasing the potential value of Xbox with how great things like backward compatibility works, and services like Game Pass. I personally am not crazy about something like Game Pass because I like to own my games, but the BC stuff is nothing short of beautiful on their part. They don't force to you to rebuy the games to play them, you can take your 15+ year old Xbox original game, pop it in and still play it in beautiful 4k. THAT is value, where as Sony has been doing nothing since PS3 but try to get people to rebuy games they already fucking own. PS3 had BC initially, but then eventually they started making PS2 games only playable if you rebought them as PS2 classics. Then they didn't even let people who bought PS2 games on the PS3 an option to download them for PS4, and expected people to buy them YET AGAIN. Rumors are that maybe BC will be better on PS5, but they haven't proven themselves reliable in that department yet.

As someone who loves quirky Japanese games, I have not been happy with Sony's double standards regarding censorship. Specially going after Japanese games only, and it's not just doing it for potential characters that are minors, but games that contain adults. Fuck them for that, and I'm just tired of it. I like boobs, and I like pervy games because I honestly get a good laugh out of them. It's not even like we get nudity in these games, it's just typical anime trope stuff usually, and yet Sony feels it's their place to step and say "this outfit is too revealing" or some shit like that. Meanwhile, I bet they'll proudly show off some lesbian sex scene in The Last of Us Part 2. A lot of games I play aren't affected by these restrictions Sony has done, but the fact that it's there, and they enforce, while having double standards for western games just pisses me off. It becomes more about me not wanting to give them my money if this is how they're going to be.

I was already invested in the PS4 before this became a big issue, but with the release of a new generation of hardware, and the expectation to transition over, they have done nothing to try and win me over so far. Maybe they don't have to, in fact it's very likely they don't. I'm just stating my opinion on the matter, and that going forward, I will finally stop buying their shit. I've been happier with my Switch because of it's portable nature, and clear message of anti-censorship, so I might just stick with that while everyone buys new hardware this year.

the next gen is a complete reset where anything can happen.sony killed it this gen for sure but it’s not like Microsoft just sat there taking it, the X is amazing.
anything can happen games wise to, Microsoft invested in studios, they could churn out amazing games or be lacklustre.

Look, Microsoft decided to start giving out info earlier. It doesn't have to mean SONY is unsure of themselves or is waiting for a checkmate move. They probably decided on when they wanna do their own reveal and everything happening now has nothing to do with their own date.

These are big marketing decisions. Its not like all the higher up executives follow the news and decide on a whim "hey fuck our plans we have to go out now". Not everything has to be push and pull. Each company has their own strategy. Actually its better they both dont announce details so close to each other, let each company have their shine then you the consumer decide.

Sony actually started giving info earlier via the wire article and Microsoft following big brother copied tht wire article almost verbatim just as an announcement. Sony is following their own timing and strategy and its working. All on them
