Was going to post earlier but ended up going to sleep.

Phase 1 - is books/comics, YA novels & younger kids books, stories are meant for all ages. This Phase is the Light of the Jedi.

No details of Phase 2 - my guess is the rumours of the Old Republic Movie or TV show and rumoured KOTOR game reboot, will not be a reboot as such but will be set in this High Republic Era now if not maybe phase 3 will be games and movies/shows.

We could assume phase 2 will deal with the Dark side then, also no news of Revan for Phase 1, but Revan is now Cannon so could turn up in phase 2 or 3 or somewhere down the line.

Some extra Details if you can’t watch the trailer at work or wherever for some reason, the concept idea was from what scares the Jedi, they had the guy who designed Maul to create those creatures.

The Antagonists are called the Nihil, they are like space vikings (not designed by the Maul guy I don’t think)

I mean, if you're doing a series specifically about the Jedi in their prime, I don't know what else you'd expect. They don't carry guns or anything.
They could have invented a new weapon or something. LightAxes or something. Or maybe at the height Jedi didn’t even need sabers they were so strong w the force. Or do something different. It’s not like on Earth we use the exact same combat weaponry and tactics for hundred of years.

I mean they could use their imagination and come up with something new. But nah that’s too much work.

Technology in the SW universe moves at what amounts to a glacial pace.

Is it me or do you see this and think Boy?

Does this look a bit like Laurence Fishburne to anyone else?

On Twitter they think this looks like Jodie Whittaker or Ashley Eckstein and Chris Pratt (I don’t see the Pratt likeness personally)

Cyberpunk Dathomirian & Twi’lek ?

Someone on reddit wrote out all the details given about these books below

I guess after the sequel trilogy ended with a whimper, Disney is now being careful with the brand. So they're going the publishing route to gauge how Star Wars fans will react to this new setting and see if it's viable for a new movie or tv show.

This High Republic setting is intriguing, but I'm not one to invest on Star Wars printed media. Let me know if they come up with a movie, tv show or even a videogame.

Oh, and Disney. If you want this thing to succeed, don't cheap out and hire shitty writers like Chuck Wendig.

The whiteboard is hilarious

“Not pro war”

Maybe y’all should have agreed on that before you had Luke Skywalker’s dying words to his nephew be “the war will never be over”

The "Diversity and Representation" era is killing media dead.

Because when you set out with that very specific framework in mind rather than simply, ya know, writing the best story and characters you can think of and not worrying whether they fit the bill of being "diverse" enough, then you get a bunch of bland bullshit.

It's simply constraining on the imagination, good storytelling has to come naturally not be forced down too specific a path.

Or rather it isn't so much the goal of writing diverse characters so much as it's the fear of the backlash if you do it "wrong" in today's hyper sensitive era that is constraining imagination.

Either way it's all resulting in everything being the same sort of bland these days, no real sense of risk, edge or passion.

I just wish they would stop going back in time trying to play off stories that happened in between here or there. I wish they would move the series forward a few hundred years and give themselves a fresh slate. Enough of this...

Are the people interviewed the same people who oversaw the story and franchise direction of the Skywalker saga? Cause if they are I don't know why we as consumers should expect anything but more of the same.

A lot of the PR speak indicates again they are giving a ton of freedom to the creatives. That is the strategy from before as well.

Wendig was notorious for calling out those evil "right-wingers" and Gamergaters on Twitter to the point Disney was like "cool it".

He also had an alien that wanted to be called 'xir' or something like that instead of 'he' or 'she'.

Let's just say I'd place a larger wager that Wendig didn't vote for Trump in the 2016 election. I'm sure I'd go home a rich man.

Wendig was in there? His one book I tried to read was terrible and yes his politics infests everything he does.

I bet this all boils down to KK asking what’s popular that we can redo in Star Wars that will make the people who left or just plain hated or ST love us.
Someone obviously brought up “The Old Republic, but we scrapped it as non Cannon” & “Have a team work together across all the stories to make it coherent”

So Kathleen gave the go ahead for the Reboot. “Set it in a different part of the timeline though so they won’t get Mad at us for over writing the old one”
The story Group no doubt patted themselves on the Back for naming it the High Republic instead of the Old Republic, so they can copy from it and claim it’s different.

They had to make sure Diversity is a keyword Twice for the people to know, extra brownie points when you could just do that without underscoring it & not making it a focal point of the entire thing.

Look at the board - the keyword “Actual Ending” oh Fucking hell 🤣

If they give Respawn the High Republic game 3-4 years down the line though I may be interested in that.

Why does it always have to come down to being based around jedi? I mean they are a cool idea but its still basing an entire reality on jedi, it limits what can do when you base your creativity off a singular idea someone else came up with. They can do ANYTHING and they still use jedi as a foundation. You'd think a room full of writers could think outside the box or come up with a new idea for an entire universe

I agree to an extent but Jedis are the basis of SW.

I guess it'd be like Halo without Spartans or Star Trek without Federation or a Captain or Admiral or something (Picard show almost counts but it's still about a former FedCap)

Still the SW does need some originality, I agree. To a small degree The Midichlorian counts but that has a baby Force user so....

Personally I'm sick of the Empire and First Order shit and whiny teen Sith. I mean ffs the Legends stuff like Old Republic felt different while still having the same themes and we had adult, mature Sith. Disney is so stuck on the OT. All they seem to want to do is remake OT material but making it more 'diverse'.
