Land of the Lustrous, and this "shit" looks better than at least 80% of the anime of this decade. Only Kyoto Animation, ufoTable, and a few others can make animation look this incredible, and in terms of cinematography barely anything comes close at least in terms of TV anime.
Thats a very bold statement to make. Shall I start listing all the good animations of the decade?

You aren't going to get CGI "anime" with good production values, because the reason it is CGI in the first place is because they can't afford good production values.

Actually, the majority of fans agreed Land of the Lustrous looked better as CGI. How would they know this? Because originally it was going to be a 2D anime series but it was changed to CGI later, and most agree the latter looked better and did the manga more justice.

It doesn't look bad, however the environments, character designs, backgrounds, and especially the cinematography look far better in the CGI version.

Seriously, mindless CGI generalization and bashing? I expected better. I expected better.

Has anyone here watched dorohedoro (?) there’s a guy with a crocodile head hanging out with some chick and magic.
The anime's CGI doesn't do it justice but you should watch it anyway because the manga was really fucking good.

Man I'm finally finishing up Vinland Saga, what a disappointment it's turned into. The pacing of the first 10 or so episodes was completely destroyed in the middle episodes where characters are just waffling around. I thought this was going to be a basic, but well-told revenge story, but it turned into a political drama where everyone's got an inside track on the REAL plot, but they never tell you about it. Thank god for Thorkell at least.

What garbage ending to Go-Toubun no Hanayome (known here stateside as "Quintessential Quintuplets"). I'm too old for this, apparently

I can top this shit ending. (or soon to be)

We never learn had the mangaka make it seem like the fan favorite would win. Built up all these arcs around her before killing any chance of anything happening. Then at the last moment, he remembered he had to make somebody "win". The girl who had zero to no arcs, personality or chemistry was made the main girl. Brought FUCKING GHOST DAD to make him see he loved her and then made the girl that was never gonna confess to him do so just to make her cry.

Daily reminder that for the most part failed mangakas go on to make romcoms to make rent. So don't expect much out of em.

BokuBen was also a disgrace. The whole genre needs to end.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes

kCNWRXcl.jpg

This is alternate Goku in this new series. (actually it's promotional anime for card game in Japanese arcades)
This is just his basic form.

Old news and Super Dragon Ball Heroes is just fanservice. Now if we could just get Dragon Ball Super back...

You seem either new or an alt 🤔

I’ll just let the cat out of the bag since you asked. I used to be Bushido Boi. I’ll have my accounts merged eventually, but I told EvilLore I wouldn’t request another name change and I didn’t. I’m a man of my word, so I just registered a new name altogether. Hopefully you and everyone else doesn’t hold that against me.

The sad part is that it was good at one point. I think some mangakas do this to piss off the people that buy their manga or something.

I'm at work so I can't give a full response now, but pretty much everything in Super outside of the first arc is just appealing to the Dragon Ball Z fans fanfiction dreams.

It’s not blatant fanservice like Super Dragon Ball Heroes whatsoever. If you’re calling Super fanservice, you might as well include the first arc too or your argument is baseless.

Just so we're on the same page, I'm not gonna say it's the same level of fanservice as Heroes and I don't think it needs to be to be considered fanservice.
I think at the very least you can't deny that it plays a big role in the writing and what they do.

On what level do you think Supers fanservice is at or do you think it has none?

I suppose it does have a certain level of fan service, but I think it was unavoidable when trying to one-up Dragon Ball Z. It just doesn't get too cheeky with it IMO. I found Super to be very enjoyable for the most part. It wasn't as much of a classic as Z, but it has its moments.

Also, Mista... Thank you, brother. You're a good man. :messenger_smiling:

I've only watched the two movies and the anime version of Battle of Gods so far, but I would say so far it feels more Dragonball/DBZ than the Buu Saga, which felt like a random series of events with barely any rhyme or reason.

Goku: Hey everyone I achieved SSJ2 off-panel!
Vegeta: I better become Majin to match Kakarot!
(later) Goku: Okay, time to show off SSJ3!
King Kai: No Goku, you know the risks!
Vegeta: Wait, WTF?! If he could go 3 all this time, why not just do that to end his fight with me quickly and prevent Buu from being released?
King Kai: Shh, the fanboys don't like it when you imply Toriyama makes this shit up constantly!
Goku: All right, kids, time to learn how to fuse!
Gotenks: Cool, now let's go from SSJ 1 straight to 3!
Goku: Wait, what? But I just did a whole thing earlier showing how you need to go through them one at a time!
Gotenks: Fuck you, old man, you're dead! Time to grieve over my moms dying, and then quickly get over it and start playing volleyball! I'm bipolar!
Goku: Well, I'm not dead for long, even though it totally negates my whole "I need to stay dead to let a new generation mature" shtick at the end of the last arc.
Gohan: I need to help out my dad!
Videl: Hey Gohan, why did we spend so much time developing me at the start of this saga if I didn't end up mattering?
Gohan: Hey, you getting viciously beaten by that Spovo, Spopo, Spoto, err, that bald guy was a tragic event!
Videl: Okay, yeah, but neither you nor me got revenge on him. He just randomly gets offed by Babadi. It just all felt meaningless and a time-waster.
Elder Kai: Enough talking! I need to give Gohan the Convenient Magic Power-Up, err I mean, teach him how to obtain the Mystic form! Which he totally earned after slacking off for 7 years......yeah.
Gohan: Well, I'm sure at least this plot point will be relevant to the climax of the story.
Elder Kai: Think again, bitch.
Gohan: Huh?!
Goku: Okay, time to kill Buu. Wait, which Buu are we fighting?
Vegeta: Let's see, there was Fat Buu, Good Buu, Evil Buu, Super Buu, Piccolo Buu, Gotenks Buu, Gohan Buu, and now Kid Buu!
Goku: Okay, I'm not the smartest guy in the room, but even I think that's really excessive.

Pure gold, dude. I think you hit the nail on the head with the Buu Saga.

I mean I get it, series is basically dead (as far as anime and manga) gets revived, got to appeal to the fans, so I agree sort of unavoidable. I think Super takes it a bit far, definitely not as far as Heroes, but it still ended up being annoying to me.

Fake edit: this is kind of ranty but oh well, what's done is done..

It ruins the last 2 arcs for me. Tournament of Power brought in Caulifla and not Broly as fanservice characters and tried to make them into a thing, tried to get Gohan his groove back and brought Master Roshi and Krillin out of retirement all for fanservice. They didn't really do anything with them, it was just... there. I even like Roshi and Krillin but I couldn't enjoy their badass moments because it wasn't genuine.

Goku Black arc was almost unwatchable for me because of how overboard they went. The entire plot is your basic fanfiction.net crap. Trunks travels back in time and sees the gang again complete with him seeing adult Gohan and Krillin's wife, 18.

The entire arc made close to zero sense (both the story and the fights) and no logic was used outside "people like Trunks and want evil Goku so let's do that, even if it makes no sense"

Fanservice imo has been a big driving force for their decisions and writing.
I mean, it's the reason why Broly's back isn't it?

In my eyes the show is consumed by it at this point.

if only we could get what post-23rd World Martial Arts Tournament Dragon Ball was supposed to be where the focus shifted to a new character. it may be too late for Gohan but since Pan was brought back I see potential. a shame that potential will most likely be wasted.

actually, fuck it. make Gohan the main character. give me a slice of life spinoff starring Dad Gohan!!

what chapter have you read up to? it sounds like you've only recently started and if that is correct, then yes YYH will pick up.

What's the name of the character from One Piece with the purple sunglasses? I tried looking it up, but I couldn't figure it out. Also, if I wanted to get into the One Piece anime as a dub fan, what do you recommend? FunimationNow? The DVDs? Are there going to be Blu-ray sets? FunimationNow has up to 500+ dubbed, I think.

Tried to watch some episodes of One Piece today and holy shit, how can it be so bad? The manga is perfect, but the pace is so slow in the anime it hurts my brain.

They need to take notes from the Gintama crew and just stop making episodes for a while altogether and then come back after a while so the manga is further ahead. Like, Gintama is popular in Japan, but One Piece is their highest selling manga ever last time I checked so if Gintama can do this and still retain its audience I'm sure One Piece would be just fine doing the same.

Which episodes? Its only normal the anime becomes slow when it gets near to where the manga is

the end of whole cake island and the part before Zou. There are a bunch of short pauses between scenes that kill my bonner instantly.

Far enough. Yes One Piece anime started turning hideous ever time it gets close to the manga
