What can devs do to improve the graphics/art style in future Dragon Ball Z video games?

I can't quite put my finger on it, but playing Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, it just looks like a last gen game (i.e. a PS3 or Xbox 360 game). I'm thinking it may be the crappy lighting and low res environments, but it may also be due to the average character models and the semi stiff animations.

How can devs get out of this slump, as pretty much every DBZ game outside of FighterZ looks outdated. There's no reason these anime looking games should look like they do, next gen.

True. I mean DBZ games are a bit of an anomaly, as they look the same, tell the same story, and play mostly the same.

Before Xenoverse 1, the last DBZ game I played was Budokai 3. I remember seeing Burst Limit and thinking that looked pretty dang good, so it's not like visual improvements are out do the question it appears

The main issue with Dragon Ball Z kakarot is the color palette, it looks terribly wrong, it is way too saturated with too much contrast, it really doesn't have a "natural" anime look at all. The grass in that game looks like some kind of nuclear material.

It's actually not specific to Kakarot only, there are many "anime games" that fail to have a good anime look in my opinion. I think the naruto storm games (even the first one from over 10 years ago) and Kurtzpel are the best looking anime game, with a really "natural" anime color palette look. Many games try to have too vibrant color and it ends up with really weird result, anime don't look that saturated / contrasted.

Add to that the fact that the world of dbz kakarot looks very generic and empty, and you get a kind of "unreal engine fan made project" look.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Acquire frost bite from Dice, mainly for the destruction but also character appearances.

Dragon ball z with another graphics style just doesnt look right (case in point: jump force), i just want a new tenkaichi/raging blast with fighterz’s graphics.

I thought Dragon Ball Z Fighters looks great. My brother's kids love it too.

Problem is it must be the worst loading time game I've seen. It's as bad as loading a scene from a Skyrim game. The first time we tried it together I thought the game crashed it took so long to load a match. lol

Getting fighterz visuals with gameplay like Kakarot is very difficult. Just like the recent guilty gear games, fighterz visuals are helped by the fact that the game is in a 2D plane, with perfectly controlled camera, shadows, lighting, etc... It isnt just about the 3D models.
