You realise that Divinity: Original Sin and the D&D roleplaying system are all in turn based! Right?

Check and mate, smelly woodland mammal.
Try harder. You are not a true fan, but a Divinity2 pleb.
You are too dumb to realise Baldur's Gate 2 is the greatest rpg of all time and set the template for nearly every Western rpg ever produced! Yet BG2 has not been bested in depth, interactivity, choice and freedom to this day.
You also ignore the fact that the only reason D&D had huge success with BG etc... Is that it took away the boring board game turn based crap and made it interesting, fun and logical.
There is also much more depth to a real time battle with pause. And the battles are way less of a boring slog and grind, with Divinity2 being a good example of a slog during boring battles.
Baldur's Gate 3 will be real-time because it is tradition.
Wanting BG3 to be turn based is like wanting the next Mass Effect to be a turn based.
The only game that should go turn based is a new Fallout.

BG is superior to OS for many other reasons (encounter design, itemization, setting, ruleset,...) and despite it being rtwp, not because of it.

BG1 and BG2 were good games back in the day - but gaming has evolved, and so have I.

Bring the series into present times. The isometric camera is claustrophobic and limiting. The series shouldn’t be defined by a camera angle. Make this 3rd person, and set me down right in the game world where I feel more connected to events.

I'm so hyped my prostate is tingling. I just hope they do the series justice. I assume Larian is headed up by people with a serious bedrock in this stuff?

Also:

WTF ARE YOU ON ABOUT saying you don't want the original style of combat? TURN BASED? What the fudge are you thinking?!? Do you want this game to just be another JRPG? Final Fantasy Tactics? What the accursed hell are you talking about?!?!

How can anyone say the combat system in BG2 was "Bullshit"???? How can anyone possibly think a step back from Real Time to turn based could possibly be an upgrade?

More to the point, how can anyone think the BG2 style of combat isn't itself just an evolved form of turn based combat? The characters still have rounds and turns, it's just they all have their own isolated round chains and the system is complex enough for them all to intertwine in a combat model where every moment offers scope for strategy!

You're basically saying you wanna dumb it down. How can you come on a gaming forum and admit that you want dumber, easier games? That's like saying you prefer ME3 over ME2? It's like saying you prefer a burger without beef patties to one with? It's like saying you prefer Tales of Earthsea to Princess Mononoke! ...I'm sure there are better examples of sequels that dissolved the complexities of their original titles~

Madness! Pants on head, burning pants on head crazy madness.

... ur probably right~

Make this 3rd person, and set me down right in the game world where I feel more connected to events.
See Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance :p [EDIT: Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance wasn't the game i was thinking of, but i guess it can still be offered as an example of them trying to update the presentation]

I don't want the isometric camera any more than you do but it must remain a point and cock DND inspired game. 3rd person should remain in spinoffs.

Makes you really appreciate a place like the codex.

GO.
AWAY.

I’m willing to bet you were one of the guys who swore up and down that implementing controller support for Divinity Original Sin would be.... impossible.

Whoops.

So do you believe that BG3 won’t have controller support? It’s 2020. Not 1999.

Maybe YOU should GO AWAY.

Hoping for turn based. I’ll buy it day one then.

If real time plus pause, still willing to consider getting the game but need to see reviews and impressions first.

The old BD combat is dated and too chaotic to me. Looking forward to see how Lar is going to modernize it.

gaming have evolved guy...

take a look at baldur 2 and later at dragon age lol
Baldur's Gate 2 hasn't been bested in 19 years! What is your point?
Dragon Age is literally a kiddy hand hold game compared to BG2.

Every thread about a turn based game there is a dude saying he wishes the game was real time because turn based is "old, lol" and devs only did it because they could not do in real time with old technology or some nonsense like it.

So I feel bad saying this but I wish BG3 is turn based also.

IMO, RTWP don't have the excitement of real time nor the tactical finesse of turn based. It is a strange middle term. When the battles are inconsequential the player can dispatch the enemies without bating an eye. When there is a difficult battle, the system gets messy since the actions are not ordered as clearly as turn based. You need an extra time if you want to unveil what is happening with each character at each moment.

RTWP works better with simple battle systems like FFXII. There is no need to think a lot about which spell you will cast, no hard counters, no enemies which can't be beaten by leveling. It is a more relaxed experience. Another thing you can do is reduce the number of the party members (like Dragon Age Origins) or reduce the tactical options of certain characters. Most important tactical maneuvers comes from the casters in Baldur's Gate.

Obviously BG is an outstanding series and RTWP is not even near of being a deal breaker. But as a general rule, I prefer turn based for its precision and real time for its energy.

It's so embarrassing to announce when you get gameplay footage through a clip that portrays itself as a trailer for the game.

I hope in BG3 the enemy skeleton/kobold/orc/illithid doesn't have the exact same goddamn abilities as my fighter/rogue/archer/mage... and please only make the magic spells flashy and no Final Fantasy teleport flame attack performing fighters.

It's based on a system called Dungeons and Dragons: 5th Edition. You can get an idea of what your characters will be able to do from there.

Teleport flame attack fighters? Sounds like a Vengeance Paladin to me. Bonus Action: Misty Step, Standard Action: Attack, Smite on hit. Cast Elemental Weapon beforehand.

For people who never played the original, is this game like divinity original sin 2?
More like the Pillars Of Eternity system, At least the old BG's were.

Maybe they can pull off both. RtCwp and TurnBase. Any maybe do like Dragon Age did, Isometric or 3rd person. Then everyone is happy!

I'm excited to see what they have. I've been playing Pillars 2 again lately and it's getting me even more excited for some cRPG action!
