there you go

There you go.

I am assuming Gamecom will also be cancelled and Microsoft will have a special press conference for the series X. Since the reveal was going to be before E3 any way they may as well extend the length of the reveal event to make up for E3. Either that or have 2 Xo2020 events one in the spring/early summer and one late in the year.

I am assuming both MS and Sony, will have invite only conferences when they do them as well. Which brings me to a very odd curiosity.

Instead of cancelling E3 why not just make tickets selective again for vetted select guests and vetted journalists that are virus free? You still get the press conference with a smaller but active audience and everyone else can watch on Youtube/TV or whatever.

Im not sure you get what E3 is about entirely.

The press conferences aren't the main reason for having E3.

It's been about E3 since the early 2000's, not sure what you're smoking, the conferences are for hype and breakdowns by the media and work with the journalism coverage.

My dream of every company doing Nintendo Direct-esque announcements inches ever closer.

Sony is doing press conferences in Movie theaters and Microsoft won't ever drop conferences so sorry that ain't happening anytime soon lol.

Gamescom has just today sent the mails that the ticket shop has opened. I do not expect it to be cancelled anytime soon. August is still five months away, cancelling it now would appear a bit too defensive to me.

I didn't say anything about Gamecom being cancelled "now" just that it may be for the same reason.

Exactly, that's not what E3 is for.

That's what people watch at home, but it's not why the have the convention.

Yeah, it really is no surprise.
All major events are getting either cancelled or reported.
The GDC was reported as well so...in an era where E3 is losing its edge, i don't know how much of an impact it will have.
It's probably a lot worse for smaller, indie studios that tried to bank on it to get some coverage, though.

Except that it really is. As fun as it is to stand in line for 3 hours to play 10 minutes of a game that will be out in a couple weeks is, it's hardly the part most people care about when thinking of E3.

"Never said I wasn't a hypocrite."
And nothing of value was lot. E3 mostly online anyway, maybe not the companies will upload their demos for everyone to play instead of those who are at LACC.

This complicates the SOny/MS/Nintendo cat/mouse announcement game. At least E3 pinned people to something.

Even though it's a watered down product recently and probably in its stages of dying, it's still going to be weird not having one.

Being safe from Covid-19 infection is much more important than attending a damn videogame conference. Just air the game reveals online like Nintendo does with it's Direct.

It still makes buying the tickets now an unwise thing to do... there are no certainties that the situation in Germany and in Europe in general will improve drastically over the summer.

With what E3 has being going, was expected. Even if its for different reasons.

If true, nothing of value is lost.

Not a shocking move. Crowds of people in a small space and all that. The thing here is where does the line exist between irrational, uneducated fear and common sense? OP -- there's no point trying to vet people attending as virus free unless they got tested recently or on-site (not happening). Corona has a very long incubation period where a person can be symptom-free but still contagious. That's literally what makes this virus the problem it is.

As for the implications of what this means for E3 itself...it was already struggling, so shutting it down this year was probably in its favor long-term.

Ideally the whole industry should have moved onto Nintendo's model by now anyway. Put together a video package of your new game and hardware announcements and follow it up with a few days worth of live gameplay sessions involving the developers.
