Yes please looking at REmakes now. Silent hill might find its success in today’s gaming years.
Where streaming and social media will make it successful.

According to the rumor, this Silent Hill game has only been in development for a year now. With that in mind, I'd say that it still needs to be in the oven for another couple of years, with a release no earlier than 2022.
If the Kojima Silent Hills part is true, then it's very possible they'll be using what they already had done whilst at Konami. Obviously they were working on DS till recently, but they knocked that one out pretty quickly. With a lot of the pre production already done, we might be seeing Silent Hills soon.

You mean three hallways and 2 rooms? Thats considered "done wile at Konami"? They had like zero game in that, it was a looping demo. No way can you sell an AAA game for $60 with those mechanics, lets go through the same halway 27 times to get a door opened on the 28th attempt. They had nothing, this is gonna take a few years.

This is such a big brain take. The demo (which wasn't even a demo of the actual game) only consisted of "three hallways and 2 rooms", therefore they literally had nothing else done at all besides that.

Genius.

It had progressed a bit more than just a hallway according to Del Toro. What we saw was a phase behind what Del Toro saw. Also the team that worked on Hills were a little over 20. Most of them just worked on MGSV, only a few had worked on previous Metal Gear games, and the rest are freelancers, producers, & a localizer.

Yep and with games or any production there are months of concept art, writing, scripting, pre-production before something as finished as that scene is put together. I'd say they were working on Hills for over a year before work stopped.

Toyama would make a good story but not great gameplay mechanics, his team is not as good as kojima´s team.

They need to hire owaku too,

Nah man. Kojima woke up one morning, grabbed Norman Reedus -who happened to walking by that day- scanned him, quickly knocked up the demo and said, "Hey maybe this could be a Silent Hill game?". Then the next day he went to E3 and released the demo.

Silent Hills made by Kojima and Silent Hill remake made by the original Team Silent!? Have I died and gone to heaven? Big news if true!
I don't mind if Kojima is in this project but I hope we get original character designs instead celebrities like we got with Death Stranding and I like P.T. as a concept but I don't want to see first person Silent Hill game at all.

Get used to it. Realistic graphics mean realistic characters and the easiest way to do that is to scan real actors. Not only does it save on time because hand crafting a real looking character takes a long time and crazy skill, but it also offers the best results. Take for example these characters from the same game:

This human character:
Tetsu_Tachibana.jpg

And this """"human"""" character:
Screen_Shot_2018-02-06_at_5.48.36_AM.png

It's painfully obvious when a character is based off a real person and when they're hand made, very few devs can actually pull off realistic looking original characters. In the case of Yakuza it's actually ridiculous how good the scanned characters look compared to the cartoony, flesh mannequin original characters.

I personally take stylize characters over realistic looking ones, I enjoyed RE2Remake but I also recently played original RE remake and surprised how much I liked original Remake's character models over the RE2Remake.

And that's fine and all but in the case I don't think games aiming for photo realistic graphics are for you, then. Let's put it this way, expecting a game to not facial scan a real actor but handcraft an original character is like going to hospital with an apparently broken arm but telling the doctor you refuse an X-ray so he has to prep you for theater, call in the anesthetist, gather a team of theatre nurses, cut open your arm and personally check the state of the bone.

Face scanning is just a new, time saving and very effective weapon in a game dev's arsenal now. We see it in that Conan video; dude visits KojiPro for a day, sits in a chair for a few mins and boom, done. Every winkle, skin fold, blemish is pretty much scanned and ready to use. That would have taken hundreds of man-hours to do by hand.

Also RE Rebirth is a really bad example for you to bring up, because the characters in that were also modeled on real actors :messenger_grinning_smiling: . Though I assume they weren't scanned.

I could live with face scan if they work the model little to not looking exactly like the actor and bringing famous celebrities as characters in games is just huge turn off for me.

I hope its true. I cant wait to hear the cries of pc ppl as they beg for more ports of games that are on console, yet consoles are for 'plebs'. PC master race y'all 😆

Not surprising. Feels like the time is right for something like Silent Hill to become commercially viable again. Horror is back, risks are being taken once more with big IPs, and SH has been away for a loooong time, in addition to enjoying a lot of publicity due to P.T.

Here's a summerization of news I've read and my take on things, not going to read all that text in the first post.

  • Junji Ito something something new game/art, close ties or worked with Kojima on Death Stranding - so a follow up project after a few drinks somewhere doesn't seem far fetched
  • P.T. or Silent Hills (whichever and whatever) is up his (Ito) alley
  • Norman Reedus possibly working on a new project with Kojima (he was also in that P.T. / Silent Hills trailer thing)
  • Kojima bounced back because his banker was a fan + ties with Cerny (he pulled him in I reckon after the Konami shiznit and that's how Sony-Kojima/Death Stranding came to be)
I think when you add all that up it would make more sense for Kojima production to make a new Silent Hill game, not sure why Studio Japan would be involved (unless KojiPro buy-out?).
Didn't read the first post, but if all those tidbits are true then wouldn't Studio Japan (what's Team Silent or is that a typo for Team Siren?) be the assist, considering they make AA games niche stuff?

no. but pc version...
Based on rumours this game is being developed by Studio Japan, and even third party game like FFVIIremake is not coming to PC day one, don’t expect this game to come to PC anytime soon.

According to the rumor there are two separate Silent Hill games: one it's a soft-reboot of the series developed by Japan Studio and the other some sort of revival of the Silent Hills project by Kojima Productions. However, the deal to get Kojima to work on an episodic Silent Hill game it's not yet finalized.

Team Silent was the original development team behind the first four SH games. The rumor says that some of it's former members joined Keiichiro Toyama (Silent Hill creator and creative director at Japan Studio) to work on this new title, which has been in development for over a year now.

Very interesting post from other forum. Also it's threadmarked. Btw. didn't know that both Castlevania were ported by one of the Sony's studios

Update: An apparent employee from Konami back in January on 4Chan (stick with me here folks, I’ll explain later why this is being reported on) says that Sony wants to buy Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Metal Gear from Konami and have Hideo Kojima involved in both Metal Gear and Silent Hill. Everything from the Silent Hill reboot lines up.

Castlevania will apparently receive a full on reboot at Japan Studio in the style of BloodBorne and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Just to tell you how much Sony cares unlike Konami, the Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood PS4 ports were done by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s own studios. That should tell you that they are passionate enough to try and get the IP.

Now, why are we reporting on a 4Chan post? Since this information us lining up with information heard from both Rely on Horror and later verified on our end from our own sources, this news dump seems to be actually valid. We anticipate hearing word on this in a post-PS5 reveal world. We are not obviously saying this is going to happen, but it seems like that they are actually trying to give these IPs another chance at prospering.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is working on a pair of Silent Hill titles, according to Rely on Horror.

Konami and Sony Interactive Entertainment are working together on these projects, with the development process looking like this:

  • Silent Hill reboot by Japan Studio’s Project Siren, the developers behind Siren and Gravity Rush
  • Silent Hills by Kojima Productions, the original developers of the canceled PS4 exclusive.
The report states that Silent Hill has been in development for around a year now and that Keiichiro Toyama and Akira Yamaoka will return to the project.

As for Silent Hills, the Hideo Kojima directed horror title staring Norman Reedus has apparently resumed talks between both Konami and the PlayStation giant and they are looking to be all ready to go.

Jack of All Controllers’ own sources close to Sony has also confirmed to us that Konami is actually open to making Silent Hills restart development that it’s likely to happen, both games being exclusive to PS5 though. Details are just as scarce as Rely on Horror’s, so we aren’t really able to add more details besides yes, to our knowledge as well, these games are happening.

I don't buy it... why would they reboot Castlevania as if it was Bloodborne when they are the creators and owners of Bloodborne (which as of today it's a much more popular and successful IP than Castlevania)? Also, it makes sense for Toyama to develop a new Silent Hill because that's an IP he worked on before joining SIE, but that's not the case for any of the other creative directors at Japan Studio.

What I find more interesting than those (fake) reports by Jack Of All Controllers it's this image of a gun model taken at the Japan Studio office:

EQINsra.png

Edit: For those who may wonder, a new Silent Hill game it's the only rumored unannounced project from Japan Studio that could have a modern gun like that in it.

Man that’s not an update, that’s a fake 4chan rumor that at least reddit was savvy enough not to give it merit.

edit: Sony cant even get Crash back but they managed to wipe out Konami’s IPs...the same publisher that bought Hudson Soft. Yeah, ok.

This was already a double megaton (SH and SHs). The new stuff makes it a 4X megaton (CV and MG). Or Extinction-tier announcement (when the megatons are so powerful). I think you are all getting carried away.

There's also the part about Metal Gear being one of those IPs and that Sony wants Kojima to be involved. That's obvious fanboy wishing, since Kojima had wanted to get away from Metal Gear for over a decade. Why would he choose to get back into it a couple of years after finally being able to work on something new? He wouldn't, and Sony knows he wouldn't.

That would suck if Sony acquire the rights to those franchises.

Multiplats going exclusive is never a good thing.

I mean, both Silent Hill and MGS were big on original PlayStation

It depends what Sony wants to do. Product Nationalism vs. Greed. The best-selling games on their console is always non-weeb games, I am sorry to be the baron of bad news. CoD/GTA/Fortnite, etc. are always going to be the big sellers, and those are non-exclusive. The only reason why some of their exlusives get such high numbers is because they pretty much give them away with PS+, free PSNow, sales, etc. There are people that will definitely buy a console for an exclusive, but I wager a lot more will just pass. Exclusives are going the way of the dodo bird.
