PS5 specs revealed. Up to 10.2 Tflops.

I mean, their first parties will still make cgi-looking games, but what happens when you have to run Grand Theft Auto VI or any other large scale game with 4k graphics?
Good luck with that laptop cpu, my brother.

The graphics processing unit (of Xbox Series X) is also a custom unit based on AMD's RDNA 2 graphics architecture with 52 compute units running at 1.465GHz (base) & 1.825GHz (boost) that is capable of 9.75 (base) teraflops & 12.14 (boost) teraflops of computational power.

I'm confused..The GPU clock on the Xbox Series X is locked. So where exactly did you get that text, I can't find it in the article.

slower ram than XSX (at least 10GB of it)
- XSX with ~20% more powerful GPU, not that bad BUT*
- slower CPU than XSX *
- twice as fast SSD with ability to use pc drives, not bad but will it make any difference?

* - FUCKING POWER SAVER feature dropping (high as fuck) GPU clocks, loooool :messenger_grinning_squinting:
What makes all of this worse is, the GPU and CPU don't run at the peak clock speeds constantly, unlike the Series X! Microsoft knew what they were doing! Phil is watching this, with a huge, wicked grin on his face.

I guess this concludes who's going stronger into next gen; it's the Xbox. However, Part II is on the way... The PS5 Pro and a Suped up Series X will be coming in two to three years. And so, the console wars continue!

So the GItHub was accurate all along. I knew it. And variable pretty much tells us it won't maintain that clock, or else they wouldn't caveat it. It begs the question what their baseline is. Will still be an amazing console (look what they did on PS4), but on performance Series X has this thing beat handily. Cerny also confirmed that not every game will be able to sustain that peak clock and it will be lowered somewhat, but he doesn't tell us the baseline. Even that line from Cerny about 36 CUs for PS5 being equal to 54 PS4 CUs.

This sounds like they're doing A LOT of reacting to what Microsoft has been putting out there. It sounds like that 54 CU line was put in there simply just to be above the 52 CUs of Series X.

Their SSD is fucking nuts. Up to 20GB/s decompression possible with that kraken compression. PS5's SSD is indeed a beast, doubling the performance of the Series X SSD. In some cases it could be more with how far they've gone with that SSD. I'm mighty impressed with the SSD. Look forward to seeing how games are designed to take advantage.

Weird because the article says this:

"But up until now at least, the focus has been on the GPU, where Microsoft has delivered 12 teraflops of compute performance via 3328 shaders allocated to 52 compute units (from 56 in total on silicon, four disabled to increase production yield) running at a sustained, locked 1825MHz. Once again, Microsoft stresses the point that frequencies are consistent on all machines, in all environments. There are no boost clocks with Xbox Series X"

MS clearly knew what Sony had, to some extent. They just wanted to poke a little fun @ Sony.

Most of the top 100 ps4 games will work on ps5 at launch. It’s not even fully BC w ps4 games. And will not play anything older than ps4.

I’m sorry this is an absolute disaster for Sony.

In contrast X plays 4 gens, increases resolution and adds HDR to old games. And 20% more powerful.

This is a one horse race on paper.

Holy shit this is providing some much needed comedy after all the Covid talk😂 Sony must have of been struggling with TDP and speeds in their design. How the fuck did Sony let MS get such a massive leg up on them. If Sony come in higher £400 they are fucked.

Come on, the Xbox is better overall but it's nothing huge. Plus we don't know about potential price differences yet.

However always back real data (Oberon), not silly forum fanboys.

Not to get into a massive debate but the gap was smaller between the x1 and PS4 and there were noticeable differences on multiplats with Res/FPS/ graphic fidelity. I’m sure Sony will bring the games but if you’re a primaly multiplat gamer then the choice is easy this time.

So apparently Sony is having trouble getting this thing below $450 to build. If this is true, how much is the XSX costing MS?

wait even the ram is slower? not even on par?

Makes things easier for the developers, and if could be higher than a one second difference. It's not just loading screens , it's the developers ability to dynamically change more and show more very fast. I would argue that would ultimately result in a better than a better user experience for MOST gamers than to have extra frames, and slighlty less blurry edges/textures you get from having more performance.
Sorry, can't see it. I'm sure the MS SSD is plenty fast enough for everything it will need to do. Personally, I'll take the more stable higher resolutions and performance that will undoubtedly come with the CPU and GPU advantages.

quoted from the article you linked

with a peak 3.8GHz frequency. This is when SMT - or hyper-threading - is disabled. Curiously, developers can choose to run with eight physical cores at the higher clock, or all cores and threads can be enabled with a lower 3.6GHz frequency. Those frequencies are completely locked and won't adjust according to load or thermal conditions - a point Microsoft emphasised several times during our visit.

But up until now at least, the focus has been on the GPU, where Microsoft has delivered 12 teraflops of compute performance via 3328 shaders allocated to 52 compute units (from 56 in total on silicon, four disabled to increase production yield) running at a sustained, locked 1825MHz. Are we pretending games only take 3 secs to load?
You might want to get your stop watch out:

This current gen game on SeX still takes about 10 secs to load.

Yeah except it has to safe state of current game and load the new one....

Follow link for more.

Overall they're both pretty much the same, Xbox Series X taking the edge slightly.

As a PC owner/builder, I'd just like to point out that there are so many more variables that come into play here. Yes the PS5 has lower specs on paper, but that doesn't mean it's going to perform a lot worse, especially in a multi-platform case. Also depends what Devs target.

Anyone that picks up either this Holiday should be very happy.

The SSD on the PS5 is twice as fast as the SSD on the Xbox Series X. Real-world performance; I seriously doubt things will be loading twice as fast on the PS5, but we'll see.

This is going to be a beautiful thread

Price will be vital in the upcoming economic environment. Considering how much money they could save on these fairly small sacrifices I think it might be a good move. We all know a PRO version is coming in 2 - 4 years anyway.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Seriously? From "all PS gens" to "hundreds of PS4 games out of thousands" in half a day. Guess BC is not that simple even with hardware support, eh Sony? MS efforts paying off next gen. Not even boost mode and enhancements to BC games on PS5?

I heard "we took 100 of the top games and most of them worked". It doesn't mean most of the 100 chosen games will be BC but they sampled 100 top PS4 games out of the thousands, so mean it's gonna be more than 100 games.

So Xbox Series X is more powerful than the PS5 but IMO Sony will have the most exclusive games/IPs for their system.

Not sure on the amount considering how many studios Microsoft keeps acquiring.

Quality of exclusives should still be better on Playstation.
