The Road to PS5: Official Stream

I'm not a tech guy but it does suck that backwards compatibility isn't as grand as I was hoping. I hope I can play DMC 5 on it, shoutout to the cardboard cut out audience taking notes though.

This was going to be a technical presentation. Anybody expecting games should be ready to not get that expectation met.

Maybe. But unlikely.

EXTREMELY skeptical by what he said about variable frequency in addition to power consumption. The idea is fine in theory, but you leave it open to interpretation what the base clocks are. Also, I have no doubt, all this overclocking was to get closer to Series X spec. This machine was not designed from the ground up to be this powerful.

I need to see the retail unit and how hot/noisy it runs, not convinced by the pitch so far. Plenty to do from here on Sony.

yup.. I guess it was something like 9 TF and to be closer to xbox they did this.. oh this will be interesting. loud AF consoles and maybe a RROD#2 xD

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
36 RDNA2 CUs = 58 PS4 CUs means bigger die than SeX, these CUs on PS5 are extremely customized

The I/O throughput and uniquely short loading times is extremely exciting, but I fear it's only going to be fully take advantage of in exclusive titles. No 3rd party is going to risk splitting how they develop games to accommodate the PS5's unique technology for multi-platform games. That's fine for me, since I only care about the exclusives and will be playing any multi-platform stuff on PC, but I fear it means the PS5 is going to be at a disadvantage compared to the XSX when it comes to 3rd party stuff. I guess if they come in at a $100 cheaper price point, then it won't matter anyway.

I suspect that the other stuff here is specifically designed to make up the GPU speed. Not that I'm complaining, this has been a fascinating talk.

Oh shit. Thanks. I didnt think IGN would have a spec sheet already. I was writing them down as I go!

Looks like the only advantage of PS5 is SSD bandwidth at about double the speed of SeX's SSD.

Everything else is worse.

Slightly worse... on paper. Lots of variables could close that gap.

So if you went all digital on PS4 you are getting royally fucked over unless those games are the "top 100" that is the most egregious shortcoming of the console imo. That's straight bullshit.

I preferred the Switch reveal when they said the joycons would let me feel frosty ice cubes in my testes.

I do not understand specs; I need the feels to get me wet.
But if Cell SPUs are confirmed, then Kutaragi's spirit lives so I am good. :messenger_smiling_hearts:

I felt like this is a major development disaster.

Just like many emotionally unstable fanboys here claiming victory after AMD analyst day stream.

i do think they had to scramble hard to get over ten in order to not look completely outclassed by xsx. PS5 sounds hot and power hungry for any game daring to max out gpu.

Price is the last way for them to be competitive. $399 usd Vs $599, i’ll go cheap as long as the ps5 is quiet...big if. But if they are within $100...well Sony better have more than their tired 3rd person action stuff.

also, congrats github faithful. You were right all along.

We'll only know when we start to have an idea of what a very demanding game is. If launch titles can trigger frequent downclocks that's not good obviously.
