US government is going to send every household $1k+ in the next two weeks

Wonder if this counts as income like the old Bush one did (I think it was Bush?). They tax you on the money that you already paid with taxes that they're giving back to you.

So why have a payroll tax cut?
I have about $600 or so taken out by the federal government per paycheck. If they did the payroll tax cut that Trump proposed, it would give me that $600 per paycheck. Seeing as I'm paid twice per month - that's an extra $1200 per month that I could have in my pocket. We're in March so if we assume the rest of the year - that's an extra $10800 in my pocket.

What’s funny to me is to see all the Trump supporters that were making fun of Mitt Romney about a week ago now embracing this.

Lol I'm below poverty line lol.

So it's not every person bur every household. If so I still won't see a dime.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
Haha such a typically American way of handling this.
No, it is usually established businesses and entrepreneurs that get a break to spark the economy during a financial downturn. This crisis is different and the response is unheard of.

That is not going to happen but I'll sure as hell take it if it does.

Edit: that's a joke if I have ever seen one.

Trolled.

Hey man you never know. Look at how Trump is doing shit you wouldnt think of him even considering 6 months ago. Something is going to have to happen to support citizens out of work. I hope something works out for you man, stay strong.

i've done unemployment before. it takes weeks to hear back after you go in and apply. then more weeks before you see your first check/deposit.

then in order to keep it, unemployment requires you to go job searching and turn in your proof bi weekly. nobody is going to be able to even look for jobs if all the businesses are closed.

How does that help with the issue that people are being laid off because of the coronavirus? I would be better off if I didn't have to pay payroll tax vs a 1k check right now, but what if I lost my job? The whole point of relief is to help those who are getting royally screwed in the current pandemic not to help out with those who are gonna be ok.

I don't qualify for the Trump bux unfortunately. It's only for people currently employed who are laid off or just let go from their job.

I mean that's up to the states and unemployment. That's not something the federal government should be stepping in to help on.

I'm sure it will.

They should increase the standard deduction by $1000 to compensate, but that would mean not handling that money three times, and the feds are too dumb to figure out that is inefficient.

IMO a global pandemic is one of those Biblical level situations where the use of a federal government to protect it's citizens is kind of a valid thing. i mean where do u think the states are getting most of their money from?

Yup the really poor people like me ain't gonna see shit.

Also love how he's giving it to people currently working but not out of work (not laid off currently but out of work for awhile) and more in need.

Saying they don’t like it is one thing, but I wonder if they’ll all tear up their checks if they get one ...
That is on them. I’ve voiced what I was going to do - return the check (or just not deposit it). If they choose not to accept it or they direct deposit it into my account then I’ll just begrudgingly toss it into savings.

I was gonna start a new job next week but now due to all this I might not. Yay!

It's definitely on each individual. It's just like many people are all for increasing the number of refugees accepted into a country until they personally are affected/have to contribute, I'd say it may well be the same for many who publicly state that they are against such handouts. Saying you oppose them is one thing, but when business is tough and a $1,000 check comes in the mail, ideology might take a backseat to your wife being able to go to the grocery store and do the shopping for the family.
