Former Sony Dev: PS5 and Xbox Series X Power Difference Is Quite Shocking, Several Developers Say

In comes a new tweet from a former PlayStation developer, who says to have heard from several developers that Microsoft’s console is the superior console and that the power difference between the Xbox Series X and PS5 is quite shocking. These developers have also said, however, that this doesn’t mean the PS5 won’t be getting great games.

“I’ve chatted to a few devs and they have confirmed the power difference is quite staggering”, ex-Sony developer Chris Grannell wrote. However they have said it doesn’t mean you can’t make good games on the PS5. These fanboys clearly don’t care about that and are massively rattled.”

In an earlier tweet, Grannell also commented on a recent ‘analysis’ from an outlet that claimed that the PS5 will actually end up with more raw computing power due to it removing the audio workload from the CPU and GPU. Instead of going by an analysis, Grannell replied that he has heard differently from the actual developers working on the console.

Look, even if the PS5 is weaker, at least Sony fans know that great games will come with it. 9-10TF is still an awful lot to play with for a closed system like a console, and seeing what they can do on PS4 leaves me with no doubt that stellar games will come from it.

Now, all that remains to be seen is what Microsoft have been doing with their studios over the last few years. They bought a lot of them so lets hope it pays off for us Xbox fans.

But PS5 is revolutionary! It'll have 1-3 sec faster loading time. 3D audio. It's super efficient. It was developed by aliens. XSX is an off the shelf, inefficient,hard to develop for machine that just brute forces everything. Its not like they aren't brute forcing the clocks n stuff to the point of need variable clocks. VRS and machine learning are going to kill PS5. Their SSD is already equaled out by having texture compression that is twice as good as Kraken on PS5 (25 % compression vs. 50 %).

Look at any Sony 1st Party game on the "base" PS4 and look how amazing those games are...then how much better they are on the PS4 Pro. Now take those same devs and give them a System with 9.2+ TF and a CPU that is not a potato and you will be amazed. Look at any Sony 1st Party game on the "base" PS4 and look how amazing those games are...then how much better they are on the PS4 Pro. Now take those same devs and give them a System with 9.2+ TF and a CPU that is not a potato and you will be amazed. Again, both will have great games and Sony's 1st party devs are gong to make the PS5 sing regardless of the specs it has against the Xbox Series X.

This is about raytracing, about machine learning, about mesh shaders, about BCPack, about variable rate shading. Put together they can turn a 12 TF machine into a 55 TF machine. How? By using those 12 TF at 1080p and using machine learning upscaling to 4K (equivalent of 48 TF). By adding VRS on top for a 15 % boost in frame rate on average.
