Public figure and NBA athletes like Tom Hanks, Idris Elba can heal real quick like it was nothing

So why are the others died so easily?

Not getting proper treatment or what?
Only for 20% of the infected the virus actually reaches the lungs and then it goes really bad. For the other 80%, it stays deep in the throat and just makes you cough a lot. Does not have much to do with treatment. It can depend on how you infect yourself. Like if someone coughs and you take a deep breathe in that very area he coughed within some seconds, then the virus might find his way directly into your lungs. But that's just one case. Usually it stays in the throat and mass reproduces there and then wanders down into the lungs. If that happens or not probably depends on your immune system (but don't quote me on that).

As for the 20%, now it all depends on your physical fitness. It gets hard to breathe for you, but if you are physically fit (e.g. can run up stairs without having to breathe real hard afterwards), don't smoke and drink a lot water, you can probably survive it even without aid.
Now for the remaining ones, it DOES matter if they can get proper treatment or not.

How is everyone ending up like Tom Hanks from the end of Philadelphia except Tom Hanks himself from this?

He says he was rinsing with mouthwash and spitting it back into the bottle, licking ice cream and putting it back on the shelf...

I'm just gonna say it - I hope this kid dies.
That's not the worst thing. The worst thing is that doing That was what made him famous.

On another note, I finally started watching the Rise of Skywalker last night, I got about 30 minutes into it. I got the point with the awful CG looking Mon Calimari dude and turned it off.

We don't have the testing kits, that's all there is to it. In my county where we have over a million people. The mayor in the city I live in was saying the reason the numbers were so low because they only got 153 test kits period.

In a county with a population of 1 million in major metropolitan area.
Thats terrible .

I figured its the lack of testing due to no testing kits.

When will they release the new testing kit that can give results in 30 min?

If we dont test we spread this virus everywhere .
Even if you dont show symptoms you should be tested given you can have it .

So the world needs to make 8ish billion test kits a day?
Here in my province they do more tests a day then anywhere else.

But as of yesterday they decided you only get tested if you are almost coughing blood.

Its not like we cant test they just dont want to due to lack of staff and cost.

If you dont lock down everyone at once then test everyone.

Right now all i hear and see is money over lives.

So uh...are there any good stories about people recovering once they've been put on a ventilator? Because it seems like all of these cases go bad once they reach this point.

Unlikely. All the pathologies I’ve read and been told by friends I know working in ICU that ventilator intervention and indeed an ECMO intervention is end-stage, you’re usually looking at comorbidity coming into play or opportunistic secondary infection (such as drug-resistant fungal infection or parasites) which finishes the patient off.

Indeed a lot of the outcomes are quite depressing, it’s not worth passing on.

And our president said yesterday on TV that we need to go back to our normal lives. The numbers will be huge.

Keeping countries locked down for extended periods of time isn't sustainable if you have any interest in returning to life as we knew it before this pandemic. Everyone's going to have to figure out how to get the economy moving again because we can't wait for the vaccine.

The more I think about this the more I wonder how countries testing parameters are going to end up skewing the data. It seems like most countries at this point are only even testing you if you are already in a bad way (outside of Korea) so I would think this would have to inflate the rate of severe/critical/fatalities wouldnt it?

That's the way it feels for everyone living in Alberta we'll all work if someone dies oh well.

Very likely. That won't change the potential it has for overwhelming the medical system if left unchecked though.

Overall odds you'll die just from contracting this will likely be slim (depending on your pre-existing issues, age, gender assignment, etc), but until we get people immune/vaccinated, it will remain a potentially serious disease that can overwhelm a place very quickly.

thats the one thing people who call for testing don't get. Also the man hours and logistics that it takes to do these tests. Labs don't just operate themselves and swabs don't get stuck up your nose on their own.

I am all for more testing. You can't fight an invisible enemy. And testing on contact tracing is maybe the most important thing that can be done to stop the spread.

But it seems some people think getting a COVID test is like picking up a coffee or something. Unfortunatly for now we don't have a simple easy test that can be done at home over and over again. Lots of companies are trying to get there, there is an Israeli company that says it can test in 50 minutes, and I saw another one that can do mulitple tests at a time.

But until these things are invented and manufactured we have to keep in mind the amount of resources and availability of testing. I don't think its feesable to test 350 Million americans, let alone test them mulitiple times.

It might also have to do with how much of the virus you initially get exposed to as well. For example, did you touch a railing and an hour later scratch your eye and get a little bit of the virus? Or did someone cough right in your face?

There seems to have been cases where people have gotten worse the more they’ve been exposed after initially having limited symptoms.

Absolutely agree. My concern is going to be with the numbers looking increasingly grim but that could at least be in part due to the way that some of the hotspots are limiting testing as their healthcare systems start to reach capacity.

Don't under estimate science, it may take time but we can get there. Drug tests used to be sent to a lab that took days to receive a result. Now you can have a smear/urine test done by someone without any medical experience and they can give you a result back in less then 5 minutes.

It's definitely feasible that science can create a test that's easily available that can provide results in minutes.

Could they theoretically make a test that you just spit on and it give you near instant results, similar to a pregnancy test?

yes science is working on it. Israeli company has some promising tech

The current testing method in Israel, and most of the rest of the world, has been to only focus on people with specific symptoms. This new testing method is not only able to allow testing of people with no symptoms, but allows for dozens of tests to be carried out at once, ultimately accelerating efforts in curbing the virus.

An Israeli firm has developed a new diagnostic kit to detect the novel coronavirus and the idea of creating a home test is under discussion, the company said.

Hod Hasharon-based BATM Advanced Communications Ltd.’s CEO, Dr. Zvi Marom, told The Jerusalem Post that compared to the kit that is currently used by hospitals all over the world, BATM’s product is faster and more accurate, and within a few weeks, the company aims to set the cost at approximately NIS 1 per test. The kit is expected to receive the EU’s CE certification mark next week.

We aren't there yet but scientist are working on it and hopefully sooner rather than later we will have these types of tests.

For now though we are limited by the tech we have and the man power we can through at it.

Boris Johnson said he bought test that will operate in a similar fashion, but tell you if you had the virus meaning you are immune. The question is will those work

Speaking at a daily press conference at Downing Street, he said: "We are in negotiations today to buy a so-called antibody test, as simple as a pregnancy test, that can tell whether you have had the disease.

"It is early days but if it works as its proponents claim, then we will buy literally hundreds of thousands of these kits as soon as practicable because obviously it has the potential to be a total game changer."

Pray the test works as advertised and its not a company trying to make a name or buck.

So apparently non chinese who go back to china are put for 14 days in quarantine, the goverment chooses where you stay and you have to pay for it.

I have found there is a split in how people treat this. Some are treating it like the plague. They isolate and quarantine. Everything that enters the house they disinfect and treat like its radioactive. The others are out shopping and treating it like a vacation. It's not the same split as the political split. It's some other divide.

And knowing how many people are out shopping and how concentrated the shopping has become, (Few places open so everyone is packing into the same areas.) there is something off with the real nature of the virus. Either it's not as fatal as expected or not as viral. As grim as this sounds, there should really be more dire situations than there is. Many are not really quarantining. There could also be a genetic susceptibility we haven't figured out yet.

Think Brasil goverment took the "we will die someday anyway" approach so fuck Corona lest come back to regular life.

Some will die ...its nature selection...

Will be nuts in some weeks being there
