South Africa are preparing to roll out their military on Friday morning when the lockdown initiates.

Today saw various military convoys around my city. I figure they'll be deploying checkpoints on the highways and major roads.

Man, the townships are not going to accept the lockdown. You watch and see. It'll be riots and looting before mid-April.

Went outside today, my little part of London was like a retirement village, or an out of season holiday camp. It was bizarre. But I was glad to see that at least locally, people seemed to be taking it mostly seriously.

If we dont test we spread this virus everywhere .
Even if you dont show symptoms you should be tested given you can have it .

True, but we have to figure out how we can stop asymptotic people from spreading it without testing everybody. Does anybody have any ideas? The only way I can think of is putting a mask on everybody that goes out in public which is what most Asian countries are doing to control everybody from spreading it.

People in Hong Kong wear a mask when they are sick, during the flu season, or when visiting hospitals. This year Hong Kong almost completely wiped out the flu thanks to social distancing and wearing masks.

Up until 2005, all schoolchildren in the UK received this TB vaccine as a matter of course at around the age of 14, so hopefully this offers some protection.

I have tested positive today. Did not have a bad cough or fever. I had very bad muscle pins from my waste down. And i lost all sense of smell and taste. Welp. Rip fellas.

We're all wishing you the best. Keep us updated on how you are doing. Is it the lost of smell and taste and the aches that sent you in to get a test? Or were you mandated to get one? Where are you located?

Oh man, here's wishing you a speedy recovery. Are you young and in relatively good health? What are they advising you to do, just quarantine yourself?

I actually recall the day I got that jag. Scar to prove it.

Same here.

Still ill though. I’ve now had a cough for 13 days. Yesterday was one of the worst, but it’s not been too bad today. Hopefully it’s coming to an end and I’ll soon be able to test to see if I had it.

I’ll definitely be hoping the result comes back as positive as it should mean I’m immune and start helping others.

I received this from one of my healthcare HF managers, worth a read:

Below are 10 key highlights from our calls and research regarding COVID-19 and its economic implications. We have spoken with our portfolio companies / boards of directors, advisory board, FDA, NHS (UK), US government / military
officials, healthcare industry CEOs across all major sectors, major academic / medical institutions, major financial institutions / wealth management platforms, and many others.... if you would like to discuss in detail.

Key Highlights:
(1) Given no existing immunity and a high rate of contagion, we believe that up to 80% of the global population will eventually contract the virus. This will not all happen at once but over the course of several years.

(2) Of those infected, data to-date indicate 80% will be early-stage, 15% mid-stage and 5% critical-stage. Early-stage patients will be asymptomatic or mild enough to not require hospitalization. Mid-stage symptoms appear similar to severe
flu, where most patients will stay at home for two weeks and rest. 5% will be critical and highly weighted toward the elderly.

(3) It is difficult to know the ultimate mortality rate at this point. Once the disease is fully quantified, we think 0.25-0.50% is
realistic, heavily weighted toward the elderly and immune compromised. Treatments / therapeutics will be needed for the sickest, otherwise this figure could increase. In the US, about 3mm people die each year, primarily from old age and nonvirus disease, those two being highly correlated. There will be significant overlap with COVID-19, so this does not mean 600k - 1.3mm new deaths from this virus. Rather, many elderly people will die sooner due to the associated respiratory distress. COVID-19 may, however, put immense pressure on the US healthcare system.

(4) Peak virus is expected in the next 8 weeks (mid-May), and new cases may continue to run through the middle of the summer (mid-July). Like the EU, US peak levels will be determined by geographic containment strategies. The virus is likely seasonal and could reemerge in populations without immunity in the Fall. Reinfection rates are expected to be low, given the lack of virus mutation seen to date. The upside case is that the virus runs its course by early summer. The downside case is that containment is pushed into the Fall or longer.

(5) Most countries now agree that social distancing and quarantine are the best approaches to mitigating transmission. Quarantine may 'flatten the curve' though will result in significant economic damage. It will also slow the rate of transmission allowing the healthcare system time to respond. Herd immunity will be the ultimate solution. In the interim, the medical community must mitigate the damage, there is only so much monetary and fiscal stimulus can do.

(6) Treatment options will come in three waves: (i) currently approved, repurposed therapeutics to minimize near-term mortality (e.g. sarilumab / hydroxychloroquine); (ii) therapeutics in development that will not be available until Fall via
emergency use authorization (e.g. anti-virals like remdesivir / favipravir; antibodies; maybe RNA vaccines); and (iii) standard vaccines that will take 12-18 months.

...Our relationships that provide unique insight into the virus dynamics, e.g.
Dr Schinazi (Emory virologist who invented HCV cure, HIV treatments, and COVID-19 treatments), Sir Bruce Keogh (former head of NHS (UK) who led response to the UK’s 2009 swine flu outbreak, Don Berwick (former head of Center for Medicaid & Medicare Services (US)), The Gates Foundation, and many others.'

what a misleading article

“The problem was China, not that we didn’t have CDC people in China,” said Scott McNabb, a former CDC epidemiologist who is now a research professor with Emory University. He pointed to China’s censorship as the main culprit in the spread of the pandemic, which has infected at least 435,470 people worldwide, killed 19,598 and upended the global economy.

While China works hard to save face the media tries very hard to make the US look bad it does not matter who is in power we never come together there is always one side trying to spread the worst face for US. This crisis has made me hate politics in media even more.

Mcnabb's quote doesn't discount the fact that this is what happened. He doesn't feel it was a problem, but some in the CDC did.

“We had a large operation of experts in China who were brought back during this administration, some of them months before the outbreak,” said one of the people who witnessed the withdrawal of U.S. personnel. “You have to consider the possibility that our drawdown made this catastrophe more likely or more difficult to respond to.”

funny how there isn’t a named source... just more anonymous

taken from the same article which I think makes the most sense

“Some health experts were skeptical that more CDC employees operating inside China would have made a difference in stemming the outbreak. Beijing has been widely criticized for silencing its own public health officials who warned of a deadly new respiratory disease emanating from the Chinese city of Wuhan and surrounding Hubei province.“

Think about it - China is silencing it’s own public health officials.. you think foreign health officials had a shot to get to the truth?

As if that more people would of stopped the CCP from lieing. They would of just kicked them out, or jailed them for "spying".

But gotta whitewash CCP and the scare stream media always has the perfect boogeyman in Trump.

Unlikely. All the pathologies I’ve read and been told by friends I know working in ICU that ventilator intervention and indeed an ECMO intervention is end-stage, you’re usually looking at comorbidity coming into play or opportunistic secondary infection (such as drug-resistant fungal infection or parasites) which finishes the patient off.

Indeed a lot of the outcomes are quite depressing, it’s not worth passing on.

um....not sure I wanted to read this lol

I feel like the Whistle-blowers would have been able to report this directly to the CDC members who then could have quietly got word to the US even sooner.
But we already know what happened once we go early word. It was ignored by some, and used for insider trading by others.

In all honesty, I think members posting in this thread could have given the CDC a heads up in late January. Even with China doing China things we knew this was serious.. I'm a little surprised this wasn't taken more seriously. I suppose it's a big machine and it takes a bit to get rolling?

Welp, all of Colorado is now under Temporary Emergency Stay at Home until April 11. County by County they were doing this and today our Gov said enough is enough so there's no more confusion where things could be open and where they couldn't. For reference, it was about a 5 minute drive in different directions where I would suddenly be in a different county and the rules were different.

Stay safe everyone and also my peeps here in Colorado!

Edit: He also asked the feds to declare Colorado to be a disaster area because while we have a relatively low population compared to California and New York, we're getting hit hard.

I thought this was a cool way to visualize the spread of the virus in the United States. It's only a matter of time before we get outbreaks all over the country in the next few weeks. The spread seems to start in large cities and radiate out. United States really needed to stop the spread weeks ago before it got exponential. Sadly, I fear that the dams are going to start breaking all around the country soon.

I have found there is a split in how people treat this. Some are treating it like the plague. They isolate and quarantine. Everything that enters the house they disinfect and treat like its radioactive. The others are out shopping and treating it like a vacation. It's not the same split as the political split. It's some other divide.

And knowing how many people are out shopping and how concentrated the shopping has become, (Few places open so everyone is packing into the same areas.) there is something off with the real nature of the virus. Either it's not as fatal as expected or not as viral. As grim as this sounds, there should really be more dire situations than there is. Many are not really quarantining. There could also be a genetic susceptibility we haven't figured out yet.

I don't think there is enough information out there which is why everyone in here can only speculate (and for some, it devolves into conspiracy theories). Until we can properly test enough people here in the US, it's hard to say what's really going on. Many who are out and about, mingling with other people in close quarters may just be ticking time bombs. I'm hoping not, but there is more evidence than not to prove it's only a matter of time until cases start to become overwhelming.

Some people are out there licking toilets after discovering that eating tide pods is old news. I'm treating this like the plague because I have cancer. While it's being managed really well, I don't feel like rolling the dice until I know hospitals around me can actually take care of me if I need it. I'm not paying almost 2k a month as a small business owner for my family policy to be put on hold until I expire in my local emergency room.

So, I noticed I had a dry cough the past couple days. maybe like 1-3 coughs per day so far....

should i just keep an eye on things for now? I think you can only get tested if you have a drs note in Georgia

Do you have post nasal drip? I didn't notice this at all until a few years ago when I was told coughing was an allergy symptom.

For super mild post nasal drip, it's hard to notice, but will result in an occasional dry cough. If your area's tree / grass / flower pollen levels became super high in the last few days, I'd just monitor and not panic.

All my income sources are getting pinched lately. I am going to run out of TP for sure.
My book order funds have not come it yet and Amazon might put a pause on book printing soon.

Theoretical: If the virus can use aerosolized particles to spread then wouldn't it potentially be far easier to transmit and infect uninfected individuals in humid climates where there is precipitation hanging in the air versus dry climates?

Practical: The virus should be far deadlier and have a far higher infection rate in states with humid climates.
