This design kind of resembles the devkit, but looks sleeker. I would not mind some variation from the devkit with this kind of finish. I was wondering how will the wireless controllers recharge, on an included pad that connects to PS5 via an USB port, or a predefined area of the PS5.

That DevKit looks too extraordinary for a ''DevKit''. Yes, maybe they're pushing the design to keep it unknowable, but it didn't make me feel like this, nope. I expect a more minimalist shit similar to this design.

Looking at the Xbox SX it doesn't seem like they have a lot of unused space and doesn't Sony more or less use the same components? Could they actually NOT turn it into something with a form factor as large as the Xbox's?

No one taking into account the AMD APU inside this thing running at ridiculous clock speeds.
Its quite remarkable how we have not seen one single feasible design of a PS5 taking into account the components that would be housed inside the shell.
If ya'll want a Jet engined PS5 that will likely blow up after a week of use then go ahead and wish for all above flashy designs. About the only design that looks functional (with proper ventilation) for such a high powered machine is the dev kit.

Look at Series X. It's function over form. I expect PS5 to do the same. This time around we are not going to get traditional flat boxed consoles with tiny rear vents. My god imagine this AMD APU in a PS4 slim type shell. It wouldn't last a week.

Those dev kits are ugly as sin, but the finished console wont look like that. They're always bulkier than the final units, if at all similar.
I think the closest you'll get it's if you removed the raised vented sections either side. It'll be a flat and smooth object.
Or maybe it'll just be the V bit with the drive in the centre. V is five so maybe they'll emphasise it in some way, though it's a bit corny

Remember the ps5 is a bit of a beast in its own right that APU and those SSD chips will need some serious cooling considering how fast they are running. I personally think that v design is going to remain, its whatever crazy cooling design they have engineered. This is the renders from the patent (by letsgodigital), considering we are talking about what 2.23Ghz? GPU and 3.5GHz CPU and the ssd is faster than anything available on the market, it will need some serious ventilation, I think the heisenberg design is a very sexy version of the patent render below, I dont even mind the render below it looks like a beast.

How was the og PS4 proportion warped? I can kinda see the PS3 argument (grill memes) but I still think both consoles were beautiful. The fat PS2 and the slim variant are probably the nicest looking consoles in existence. Symmetrical consoles like the second 360 slim and the Gamecube are ugly as fuck.

I'm pretty sure this will be very close to final design. It needs a hefty cooling solution and this seems to be awesome for just that. Cooling from the back of a device or (just) the top or bottom is risky, because of possible blockage of the vents. Cooling from the "middle" and the sides (and maybe bottom) seems such a good idea. Maybe with some sort of push-pull, to really flush the system with air.

I hated the sloped front of the ps4, it looked like something that was stretched and skewed in photoshop, same goes for the ps2, with the top of the console being wider than the base, just looked weird to me.
Maybe SCE should have a word with Sony's other design departments. Most of their output such as tv's ,blu ray players, audio equipment tends to look pretty sleek.

Just make it look like a PS4 slim with the PS5 logo slapped on it. Don't need to be looking like some soundbar with a jet engine fan in it.
