I miss Miiverse!

Hi, I recently had the idea to plug my WiiU and have fun rediscovering my wii and wiiu collection. I really think it is my favorite Nintendo console. Not only for the best third party support Nintendo had since Snes but mainly because all of its gimicky features. On the gamepad you can click the app or the game you want to play, while on the TV there was the online Mii characters showing awesome custom drawing. Awesome backround music by the way. It had the most enjoyable web surfing app using the gamepad, a robust eshop app , a complete Wii OS for backward compability, video call and Miiverse.

A place you could share your tought and pictures you take from a game, draw images . Just so fun, even the wiimote is compatible.

it's not only my favorite Nintendo console but also my favorite of all time. How could Nintendo went from this awesome console full of inventive features to the barebone Switch?? I trully miss Miiverse and it's sad that Nintendo might never try again. Touchscreen on the switch is unused, online and social capability are more than barebone. The eshop is trash, there is almost nothing on the switch. It's a plug and play system with nothing exciting about it. They don't even care.

While the WiiU total sales and reception was weak, I hope you people know that this console brought so much.

Absolutely loved miiverse and how it was implemented in many games. Being able to comment, give tips, or just show off your artistic skills in general was very nice and often showcased a sense of community and creativity. It is an honest shame that Nintendo gave it up. Online games on the switch would be so much better if it had miiverse. I don't understand why they would invest in making such a great system and then throw it away during the next generation, it would be likely be cost effective and the userbase would still be there.

God I miss it too. But I miss it for the laughs mostly. I delighted in checking it about once a week during some downtime and just trying to find the dumbest posts I could -- and I never had to look far! Mind you I didn't engage with these posts in any way, just had a good chuckle to myself, courtesy of the dopey kids on Miiverse. Some of it reminded me of the cringey stuff I used to post on the nintendo.com forums when I was younger. Besides that, you had classics like "y cant metroid crawl". Or this:

Nintendo used to have the best system music and sounds as well. And wiiu concept was amazing; as was all of the hardware, except the really really old cpu-gpu tech in the console which made it hard to develop for.

yeah, sometimes i’d turn it on just to listen to the menu music...i also loved when miis would appear in the games. My SO made a bunch of miis, including ones of our (now dead) dogs, josef stalin, buffy, our friends and family, pol pot, mao, hitler...yeah i played frisbee golf with my dogs, stalin, and hitler...lol. Sony and MS systems seemed so Western Corporate and souless by comparison.

But people prefere Switch system, so It seems tho that all people really want is a simple games launcher. :(

Oh my god I loved Miiverse. It was like a treasure trove of autism.

I remember there was this one guy who asked why the WiiU version of Injustice wasn't used for tournaments. Me and several other people explained that the WiiU version never got all the patches required for tourney play and its easier/cheaper for TOs to just use the 360/PS3 versions.

The guy fucking flipped out and told people to fuck off then the next day he made a post demanding anyone who commented on his last post to apologize to him.

There's was this one dude called SuperSonic or something who always posted weird shit. He had some screenshot of Copperhead from Batman Arkham Origins and he asked "Why is cooperhead speaking French?"

I could never tell if he was real or a troll but damn it was gold.

Yeah, it was pretty fun.

Nintendo have made many steps back this gen. Dare I say it, success has made them lazy (A common trait in this industry).

That doesn't make sense because the Switch and all its design and decisions comes off the insuccess that was the Wii U.

No one is denying the switch does what it does well. Play new games made by Ninendo or for Nintendo systems. But the lack of the social aspects, Miiverse, a proper market place with the ability to buy all the games that existed on teh Wii and Wii U marketplace etc, is kinda baffeling.

Maybe by cutting all that extra stuff it allowed them to focus on the core console experience, and I think tehy nailed that for a Nintendo system, but some of those etxras are missed as well.

I also miss stuff. I was just saying that the stuff Nintendo cut out wasn't out of complacency for being successful. Nintendo came out of a major failure like the Wii U and started from scratch for the Switch. Right out of the gate no more Miiverse, no more free online, no more Virtual Console, and so on, but they also added value where people cared, and the success came.

Of course I'd also love a messaging system, an optional equivalent for achievements and so on. I'm less demanding on wanting available all legacy software since the Switch is a new architecture and in all honesty I think I prefer the subscription system for classic games. But at this point I'd hope they'd figure out how to bring over more consoles past the SNES yes, subscription or not.
