I hope people who really dislike Trump take the high road and don't take the money. Or give it away. It's blood money, right?
Clearly. But I also hope people on the other side of the spectrum don't take the money because it's blatant socialism.

I dunno but I don't see a one month assistance during a major crisis as 'socialism'.

Plus by that logic I'd imagine we've been socialist for a while now with welfare benefits and the like.

You don't? It's a handout from the Federal Government who is using taxes from everyone to distribute money somewhat evenly.

To your second point...

I agree! It is somewhat socialist or has socialist implications. Weird that. What do you think we should do about it?

Quick question.... People currently working will get the 1200 bux so long as they don't make over a certain amount? What is thr amount cut off btw?

>people get arrested by government if they try to make a living
>thinks people getting money from the government is wholly benevolent

In the real world we call these payments "damages".

Right, it looks like single individuals making over $75k won't get the full amount. Making more than $98k means you get 0.

Do I need to "apply" to get the $1k check? My job closed because of Covid-19, really struggling to pay my bills & rent.

You should apply for Unemployment. You can get $600 a week for 4 months.

This is different and goes out to everyone. However, it will likely be about a month before people get it. And only the people who filed taxes will get it right away (comparatively), if you didn't apparently it might take months to get a paper check.

Nope, just normal state action. What would happen if a sit-down restaurant owner refused to closing and resisted attempts by the state to close? He'd be arrested, possibly shot. It's no different from someone kidnapping you at gunpoint.
Hey if you and the theoretical restaurant owner want to sign a waiver stating that you will not go to the hospital, then go nuts. And if you do crawl your way to the hospital (because of course you will), then they should be allowed to turn you away.

I don't disagree with either of those, but the lockdown does not allow that.

I thought it was free commie money for everybody that filed their taxes regardless of occupation/current job.

I might not start a job until late April because of all this :/

If you filed taxes this year or last you are covered.
I don't have a tax return for last year because my only income was SSI, but I recently started working in January of this year. Will I still qualify?
No. If you’re under the income limit according to your 2018 return, you get the check.

Thanks for the suggestion of unemployment, I'll remember to apply later today.

Also, do you know if people who lost their job, but also gets SSI still qualify for unemployment benefits?

The IRS encourages anyone with a tax filing obligation who hasn't filed a tax return for 2018 or a previous year to act now. – Pending legislation includes certain potential credits and rebates for those who have filed a return for 2018 and/or 2019. Those without 2018 tax filings on record could potentially affect mailings of stimulus checks.

Sounds like you won't get a check anytime soon, if at all.

Well, i'm fucked. My parents and my bf's parents filed both of us as dependents. And if you are filed as a dependent you get 0 money from the bill.

F in the chat.

There have been tax cuts, I think there's not enough taxation to finance the stimulus + the regular government budget. It's probably debt out of thin air.

Weren't they working on significantly increasing unemployment benefits in the stimulus bill too?

You arent being punished. Stop that type of thinking. Be happy you are making a good living. My wife and I also make too much for this, but my mom just lost her job, so im very happy the people who NEED it right now are going to get it. You and me, we dont need this.
I mean, some people get off on punishment. Spank my ass, step on my balls, withhold my stimulus check.

Does anyone know if it is based off of Adjusted Gross Income or Taxable Income? I’m assuming the latter but haven’t been able to find anything on it.

I'm okay with the stimulus, people need it. But there are definitely going to be some arguments about unemployment stemming from this.

I get it, lots of people got laid off. Yet at the same time grocery store workers went from working a job that's relatively safe to working in a high risk environment where they are on the front lines to potentially get sick and die.

It is kind of messed up that Joe Blow working at wal-mart for $13 an hour has to go to work and potentially get covid when a lot of people on unemployment are probably making way more then him and get to stay home.

I don't know what the solution is but I can see this becoming a huge issue in months to come. Major grocery store companies have given some small raises and bonuses but it's not enough for the risk involved.

Since my girl hasn't filed taxes in a few years on bad advice from her stepdad, I wonder if I could just file her 2019 taxes real quick and worry about the other years later. She's paying taxes, but her income and the standard deduction puts her at a negative taxable income.

It is being handled by the IRS so you will get your money by next year.

Wouldn't that entitle her to a reimbursement?
I'm glad you're talking some sense into her, that's incredibly bad advice from her dad.

If he is working full time I fucking doubt it.

Extremely frustrated that neither me or my father (he's the one I care for) won't see a dime and we REALLY need it esp now. It's adding insult to injury especially since my (well my dad's) dog is getting worse and our Rug Doctor cleaning machine seems busted.

Things getting worse and ngl I'm getting ideation to a point I need to see if I can talk to a therapist online with w/e help that'll do.

Being ass poor means just getting the shaft again.

Fuck all this and especially a big 'fuck you' to the Chinese govt.
