Why Sony hasn't shown the PS5

Sony just said they expect PS5 to still release this year the other day, despite everything that's happening.
I just saw the Resident Evil 3 demo on my PS4 PRO, given how the game runs at or very close to 60fps pretty much all the time I feel no pressure to upgrade... I have a gaming PC with an SSD so don't try to just sell me games that just load faster.

This feels like the ps3 launch to me. Sony is behind schedule. I dont think sony is waiting for e3 to show hardware, as that wasnt gonna be thier focus. If its ready they can announce it at any time to create buzz.

I also dont think the games are ready, but at the same time i think ms will show games around the e3 time. So if we see no games at that point from sony, then we know things are.

We have already had glimpses at cutscenes for halo infinite and hellblade 2. Just no gameplay.

It really hasn’t.

Dont know about impact on specific plants relevant to PS5 and SeX production but in general terms China's production is still largely shut down in many areas.
Foxconn has been up and running for a few weeks now. They are almost certainly the ones doing the bulk of the production for both consoles.

Sony will show when they want to show. It makes no difference what a box looks like. All that matters is the specs and the games.

well this better be the silence before the storm or they fucked up badly

Nope. Production in China has been back at full swing for awhile now, console isn’t being delayed. Also, what happens to the economy remains to be seen. They’ll adjust production according to market analytics (as companies always do) but the chance of them letting Microsoft launch a year before them is literally zero.

I think both companies should be more worried about high unemployment and people being unable to afford a $400+ video game console.

I'm very curious to what it will look like. My guess is that it uses that patent for the cooling system. So I'm expecting the cooling to work similarly to the dev kits. However I'm not expecting it to look that way. Like their previous systems the PS5 will probably look like a console if you know what I mean.

As to why they haven't shown it yet well they showed the PS4 in June for the first time so I don't believe this is an indication of anything yet. However if we start to approach the middle of the summer and we haven't seen anything yet, then I would really start to question them.

Some theories that I'm reading where people claim that Sony is scared to show the system are just dumb in my opinion. We already know the specifications so I don't see why they would be concerned in showing what the system looks like.

Just my opinion.

A few months wouldn't be surprising under normal circumstances. One year might actually be generous. The Wii was nearly impossible to find in store for years.

The one wild card is people's disposable income whenever life gets back to normal. A lot of people aren't working and might not be in position to consider spending $500+ on an entertainment box.

mm, lets see. I wouldnt compare Sony and Microsoft with Nintendo in this dimension. They demonstrated to be much better than the latter.

They just sold around 70 million more units than their competitor, I don't think they're that worried

Thst means nothing when the next generation starts. Everything is reset, and everyone starts at 0.

Edit: I figure for the reason of the delay probably has something to do with Corvus-19, no good games to show, and contemplating rather they can still release this year as planned. They may say they are releasing this year but nothing is set in stone.

Sony wants to have real-time gameplay ready to show for the reveal along with the PS5 retail unit and price

Sony are confident that the silence will be forgotten once they show their games

I agree and was saying the same thing in the Cerny GDC talk thread when so many people were freaking out about how this was a crap reveal. It wasn't a reveal.

I wouldn't say everyone starts at zero. Brand loyalty is a thing

One can only take so much disappointment at once. They are spreading it out. Smart move.

Yeah, it's mind boggling that some people thought that was the PS5 reveal

Brand loyalty only goes so far, just look at PS2’s dominance versus what they did with the PS3. Throw brand loyalty out the window when it comes to pricing, availability, and the economy.

Everything restarts at 0 next gen.

Or poor marketing, spreading the presentation across all th social media, trying to raise interest only to show 0 footage

What they show instead? Dead space.........

Even a 5sec tease of a ps5 game, or demoing the new ssd load speeds (like they'd already done with spiderman), anything

U can post ps5 news and spread the live link across all social media, and not expect people to be pissd to see no ps5 gameplay or video at all

That just poor marketing, and yes sits marketing because they advertised it

That was only because the PS3 arrived 1 year later and was $600. Both next generation consoles are launching in the same year and PS5 won't be $600

Hard disagree.

PS3 was a disaster to develop for and it had a high price and launching a full year later than 360. That was its downfall so it was a self inflicted wound from Sony. The brand loyalty was still there. It just took them a number of years into that gen to eventually catch up and surpass Xbox in world wide sales. This happened despite the many mistakes Sony made during the start of PS3's life cycle.
PS4 has an install base north of 100 million. There aint a snowball's chance in hell Sony will be fucking up this launch with PS5 with anything remotely close to what they did with PS3.
The install base will grow with PS5 and they'll retain much of that 100 million user base even if they have ONLY 100 backwards compatible games on launch day.

There is nothing about everything getting reset to 0 at the start of next gen. That is pure wishful thinking.

This.

Yeah I agree that it was poor timing/marketing as everyone really wants to see PS5 games and casuals don't know what GDC is

As soon as we see the games though the PS5 media blitz starts

With knowing they were on the back foot, they should of shown something, not a trailer, but a demo of the tech in a real time ps5 game, nothing fancy, but something real, like TLoU 2, hers a scene on ps4 pro, heres the same scene on ps5....

People would of had something to base all this tech talk around and could of stolen some of xbox thunder, because so far all weve seen of xbox is minecraft ray tracing...........

If I was Sony I'd show 5 new PS5 trailers or demos to get the early hype rolling. But at the same time, they know they can afford to wait especially with TLOU 2, Ghost of Tsushima and FF7 around the corner

We honestly do not know this, there’s always a chance for delay and considering the current circumstances one or both companies may decide to delay. We are in the midst of a very damaging global pandemic that’s really knocking over and killing the economy in most of the world.

We can agree to disagree about brand loyalty, if it went as deep as you think, then the PS3 would have been number 1 again. But it showed that pricing, the economy at the time and timing are probably more decisive factors determining overall success.

That's called a reveal, and this wasnt a reveal, as said just demos of the tech in real time on actual ps5 games and how much more efficient it is compared to ps4 (side by side spiderman, horizon zero dawn 60fps at 4k etc etc)

They had loads of options, when you market and promote on your gaming social media, people expect to see some games in any form.

But its done now, roll on the trailers

Sony addressed the pandemic and also announced that they are still launching this year

I'm also sure PS5 won't come in at $600 but yeah we can agree to disagree

Yeah they should have had the reveal in February like with the PS4 and while they do have a huge year for the PS4 I still think they should start the PS5 hype train

You may ignore this thread too if you've got nothing constructive to add instead of deliberately trolling.

Are you guys getting paid for doing this?

It's always the same with PlayStation Fans who are loyal to one Company, if they don't like your opinion or don't agree with your opinion than you are a Troll, an XBot or a Fanboy!

Sorry, but I can't take people like you seriously :D

If you can't handle other peoples opinions, than maybe you should stop ignoring Threads like this one.

And don't forget to show me where I called someone a Troll!

Sony's messaging the last few years has been abysmal.
Even the GDC presentation was poor quality and with little to no focus.
Complacent Sony has always been terrible for consumers and it sure looks like they're repeating the same hubris at the end of the ps2 gen.

I don’t think the cooling solution is locked down. Why would you announce plans to release a console with red hot clocks and then not explain cooling? This was a GDC talk. If not there then where? Seems like they aren’t quite ready.

Yes i think this is reason IMO. The amount of cooling they need on that overclocked APU, how much $ can they spend on it.

Thus they cant show the final form factor.

Gaming will be fine during recession. Nvidia recently maintained their outlook.

Nah, if they intend to release this year, the box and everything inside it must be final by now. They will need to start manufacturing in May/June, they cannot make any changes now, any hardware change will require months of extensive testing.
They will show it when they can also show a decent lineup to demonstrate the PS5 capabilities.

Great idea, Sony should release some short teaser montage with glimpse of next-gen games a week before the actual reveal to get the hype going, and then fully show the games from the teasers.
