Bravely Default II Demo Out Today

Loved Bravely Default. Took a second to realise this wasn't an old thread because that was Bravely Second. I take it that game wasn't as good if they're making a point of doing a sequel to the first again.

They’re moving quick with dev time, sadly I won’t get to this. I’m thinking about getting a Switch though, especially in these times.

I'm currently downloading the demo, so we'll see how things go.

I have to admit, though, while I appreciated where the developers went visually with Octopath Traveler, from the trailer Bravely Default II has something of a budget look or the graphics of an older title that's been polished-up for a new console. Maybe I'll feel differently after the demo, but right now the game seems visually wanting.

Will definitely try it out.
The world and towns look great but I'm not a fan of the character models. They look like weird dolls. Which is a shame because the actual design in art form looks great

like MagnesG MagnesG said, Bravely second is the direct sequel to original game but Bravely Default 2 is not, same way Final Fantasy VIII is not direct sequel to VII.

Too bad most of us will die unfortunately before this game comes out due to Covid-19... =(

Sad that it could possibly be true... I would give anything for our world to go back to normal and we can enjoy life, play all the great games coming out, or enjoy working with children (as with my career).

I am scared. But at least we can try the demo for the time being.

Revo's soundtrack really does elevate this series. Bravely Second was so mediocre without his input. This game already won me over with it's great battle theme.

Gave it a go yesterday. Played for like an hour because I don't like to spend too much time on demos.
Pretty fun. The city looks great, the music is great and the combat is just as enjoyable as in the original. Also it's nice that they have moved away from random encounters.
The visuals outside of the city are a bit meh. Resolution aside I actually like the look of the original better.

The only more realistic feedback I'd give them if they sent out the survey is some features to make things move along faster. Let me press A to have dialog text appear instantly (even the fast speed for text is too slow) and let me skip the intro during combat.

Jumping into The Alliance Alive HD this past weekend, I was a little disappointed with the Bravely Default II demo. (I think AA is made by the same team?) The games feel like carbon copies of each other and for me, AA has been more enjoyable. Granted, I haven't played through the first two Bravely games, and this was just a demo, but the story seemed overly cliche and the world graphics were underwhelming.

@Bravely fans. What's the primary draw for the series? Do the games need to be experienced over a longer period of time to be enjoyed?

Story and mechanics

Keep in mind, the first two titles were handheld games; the series isn't supposed to be some ground breaking open world game

I kind of classify them in the vain of the FF 3-6 titles
Job system and turned based combat, good plot, some side stuff to do but not overwhelming

Played the demo for a bit. The final game will no doubt be excellent and this will be an easy purchase.

That said, holy shit are the enemies overtuned in the demo. Not gonna sink any significant time into that. 😂

Bravely games have the best turn based combat, with its unique Brave Default mechanic. The story, music and the hand-drawn art are also big lures. The series is alos known for it amazing QoL features like being able to turn off random encounters, repeat sets of commands, play with one hand only, easy farming, etc.

This BD2 demo on the other hand was disappointing though. The UI functionality was a mess, the battle system has been changed, and the encounter system has also been changed. It seems like a big change in few core aspects, but I'm hopeful the team will take on some feedback to get this back on track.

I'd recommend giving the original Bravely Default a go as that's a really good game.

I came away from the demo somewhat deflated.

Having only played BD: For the Sequel, there was something off about the battle system, and it took me a while to recall the round-based fights of the first game. While I'd agree with critiques that a turn indicator would help, I don't care for this change. Random battles are missed, and I wonder how (or if) you'll be able to tune enemy encounters, as in the first game. The graphics also aren't particularly working for me. The little desert town was nice and reminiscent of its predecessor, and the field map was serviceable, but the battle screens lacked that 2D-storybook quality and, along with the character models, seemed especially sterile. A few other nitpicks would be the UI was clunky, and the absence of Akihiko Yoshida's visual influence on the game is noticeable.

Thanks for the insight. I’ll have to to give BD1 a try.
