Popping open a bottle of champagne for the PlayStation pacman this week. Now over 9M and it did it faster then the ps3 did it. If Sony cut the price this thing could still hit 10M but it's already far past where most predicted.

Super launch for FF7 and with the expected big digital sales it should be well past 1M already. Ps4 now has a nice total of million sellers, more then the ps3.

Weird... the drop compared with previous FFs this gen is astroming.

For example FFVII debuted at 2 million first week in 1997.
Hell even FFXIII did over 1.5 million first week.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Good FFVII-R sales. I expected much better, because these games are usually very front loaded. But it's still good.

Let's see if it has legs..

I wasn't super hyped for FF7 but the game mostly blew my expectations away.

700k is just physical :)

Digital is way more popular now and is likely the lion's share of game sales during this whole covid thing.

How much did KH 3 do digital first week in Japan?
100k in January 2019... that is about one week sales because the game launched in Jan 25.

Game opened with 640k retail (I don’t know why the OP has the wrong data).

~740k total for first week.

For "that" game and during the COVID-19 epidemic.......I think so. But we'll see. If it's not 30%, I can really see a minimum of 20%.
FF7R means love.

Not so joke when a pandeminc is in place.
From what I know Japan did not have quarantine until now... stores and people are all working and moving there like usual.

The focus on Japan government is in the people with the virus... if you test ok then you have to do a quarantine in a Hotel set by government away from everybody else.

Thats don't mean this will not reflex the digital sales, with at the present moment, was influenced by the pandemic. Not saying will beat physical sales, but we can expect a little to modest boost.

Ff7R is a blowout success, even physical sales is doing well under peak of pandemic, digital numbers should be great as well. That will boost Nomura’s ego to make the future episodes even closer to his style rather than a faithful remake, though I’m still excited to play them.

Retail doing like normal means digital did not increase.
It just there is no evidence of retail game sales being affected by Coronavirus in Japan... it is the opposite the sales are normal.

People are not being confined at homes in Japan.

That still doesn't mean more people didn't decide to stay at home and buy digitally. We have to wait for full numbers first.

Does FFVII remake sales only include physical copies? Because if so, they are not representative since many people are buying digital more than ever now, for the corona virus.

Come on now. There is no lockdown in Japan. People aren't staying home like in the west.
Even if they were, why would they buy it digitally instead of just getting it via Amazon or something? I expect digital sales of 100 to 150k. Would be surprised if it was 200k+.

Don't need to have a lockdown for people get afraid and stay home. Japanese people are very educated and follow every healthy advice they get.

Can't say the Switch shortage surprises me. I still haven' received my Animal Crossing copy. Probably because i ordered it for 50 Euros, while they sell it now for 80 after Corona. Bastards:messenger_angry:
edit: sorry for typos X_X, was typing while playing.

Over 30% digital ratio in Japan? Nah it is near 0 chance.
There have been quite a few games with a 30% ratio in Japan on PS4 and unlike the switch they didn't need a voucher programme to achieve it.

Considering this global pandemic and how smart and educated Japanese people are I wouldn't been surprised if a large portion who hadn't pre ordered a physical copy decided to get it digital.

Obviously a huge number of Hardcore fans would have pre ordered physical and collected but I think digital will be unusually large.

The bonus is digital means more profits for Sony and Square Enix. Can't wait to see their reports whenever they release them.

They are not in Japan.
Retail sales are not affected by Corona virus there because there is lockdown.

The advice in Japan is to have a normal life no different from before.
Risk people already used masks in public.

One thing you can't forget is that home consoles aren't as popular as they used to be in japan. A large part of the japanese market has shifted over to handhelds and mobile.
The Ps2 sold something like 20 million units in japan alone while I think the Ps4 hasn't passed 10 million yet,

Yet Dragon Quest XI managed 1 million even having it userbase split between PS4 and 3DS.
If DQXI released only on PS4 like FF games (well there is XB1 version for XV) it should have sold around 1.5m imo.

The low sales are not related to console market issue but franchise declive in Japan... the market is there the games just need to get interest from the market.

That might be due to the fact that (as far as I know) Dragon Quest is more popular than Final Fantasy in Japan.
Dragon quest also saw a massive drop compared to the Ps2 era. Less than 1 million in the first week while Dragon Quest VIII on Ps2 sold over 2 million units in 2 days

First this is only physical and Japan declared confinement by coronavirus. After, Japan market today is phones + portable consoles. PS4 is far from PSX sales.

on Gematsu site one comment wrote, that digital number is even higher - 825k. so if true, they sold 1,5M+ in Japan alone. the game pushed PS4 sold for 4x.
I believe with digital it is 825k... 150k digital... can be very true.

But that guy list Media Create when MC stopped to over a year already to give numbers.

UPDATE

Looks like Famitsu was correct about the 700k figure. And that is indeed lower than FFXV.

What we didn't know, however, was that the 700k represented 95% of shipments.

Holy. Fucking. Shit. This game is a monster.

Which means the game could have sold 300k digitally! Pushing it to a million week one!
I doubt it tho since the game sold 3.5 million (although it was probably 50-50 due to physical shortages).
