Trials of Mana Day One Update To Introduce New Dashing Methods; Difficulty Level is Reportedly Low

Trials of Mana is getting a day one update that will introduce new dashing methods.

The 1.01 update, which will release alongside the game on April 24th, will allow players to choose between three different dashing methods. The update will also include minor bug fixes.
Trials of Mana 1.01 Update Notes
  • Added the “Dash Method” option – This allows you to choose from one of the following three dash methods:
    • Normal – Press the dash button to enter the dash state. To return to normal speed, either press the button again, stop moving, or enter battle.
    • Continuous – Press the dash button to enter the dash state. Return to normal speed is only possible by pressing the button again. Otherwise, you will remain in the dash state even after you stop and move again, or after the end of a battle.
    • Automatic – Automatically enters the dash state after one second of movement.
  • Minor bug fixes, etc.
The PC version of the game will not include the 1.01 update in its base download, so the update will have to be downloaded after the game has been installed.

On a related note, some lucky players managed to get their hands on Trials of Mana already. While the general consensus seems positive, some users, such as GameFAQs user NeoRamza are finding the game a bit on the easy side, even on Hard mode.

There have been a few challenging bosses, and even against normal enemies, I'm using candy & chocolate quite a bit sometimes. So it seems to get harder and harder at least, but I feel it's too easy for too long at the beginning. It's still on the easier side where I'm at, and I feel like most regular enemies die a bit quickly, sometimes from a single combo. Then again, I am playing as Kevin (brawler/dark), who hits pretty hard, and there are enemies that have a lot more HP than others.
Trials of Mana launches on April 24th on PC, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch worldwide.

Any reviews?

I am slightly intrested but the first remake was rather janky.

So i will wait a bit.

One streamer was rushing the game on Beginner difficulty, and still had a few wipes on later bosses. I wouldn't worry too much about difficulty yet, the full game is obviously harder than the demo.

Going off the demo it doesn't come close to the quality or production value of Dragon Quest (voice acting in particular is fairly crappy) but it's fun enough, definitely on the easy side.
Thank you. Maybe I'll wait for a sale or see whether CD Keys has a cheaper key than the current price on the eShop.

You could always just download the demo and judge for yourself. You can use your demo save in the real game when it launches.

Only a few days left waiting. Ever so happy we are past that "oh, this kinda game isn't viable for a Western audience". A beautiful remake of Seiken Densetsu 3, who would've thought all those years ago?

All these 3D remakes of classic games have the camera way too close. Your field of view is you, one enemy, and ten thousand explosion effects.

One of my favorites moments in gaming was when I downloaded an English patch, SD3 ROM, and ZSNES. I was convinced there was no way it would work, but it did work. New Secret of Mana game that never came to the US.

Pretty cool this is being remade and getting a US release. I’m backlogged right now, but will pick it up this summer at the latest. Might buy it early and hold because I want to support these types of remake projects.

I really enjoyed the demo on ps4 so I reserved it this is my first time playing a mana game, anybody recommend the collection of mana game?

The Collection is good, but also quite faithful to the original games. The games sometimes show their age, but for the most part, they are fun experiences. Also, if you are planning to get the remake digitally, Collection is 70% off if you preorder from eShop.

I had to buy this one digitally I normally don't do this but I would have had to wait like 2 weeks for the Amazon copy, there was no way in hell I would have waited that long for one of my favorite childhood games, hopefully it will be a better remake than FFVIIR.

Play the demo. It's free and available now for all platforms. I liked it well enough to put in a preorder. I usually don't do that, so that's a big change for me. The exceptional quality of Final Fantasy 7 Remake also factored into my decision. Squeenix stepped up their game, and I should reward them with money, seeing as I've hardly bought anything from them in nearly a decade.

I am excited for this, I hope the performance is better than in the demo. Chugged quite a bit.

I prefer more difficult RPGs, when I just breeze through all encounters it kinda hurts my enjoyment.

Maybe I’ll play it on PC and look for a difficulty mod if it’s that much of an issue
For my tastes, PC is a no brainer for 120fps. I'm impressed they actually have that as a specific option in the settings.

Oh that’s good to know thanks.

I just found out you can save transfer the demo to the full game, I'm downloading it right now, heads up for anyone already set for the full game like me.

Going with a party of Hawk, Lise and Duran for the 1st playthrough I would normally choose Carlie over Duran but god I hate her voice in the remake. so I'll just make Duran a Lord and let him be the healer.

After playing through the first half of the game in Hard, I can confirm that it is definitely *not* too easy. Not too long after the demo, enemies start dealing 15 or 20% of your health with their normal attacks, some of which have very little startup, and some bosses will cover the ground in red markers. Some of the most glaring examples from the early/mid game (spoilers for anyone who didn't play the original):

The two machine golems on the bridge. They have lots of AoE attacks, so if they decide to use them one after another you could get stuck in a dodge loop without any real opening to attack.
Zehnoa (or whatever they spelled its name). Basically a long-winded game of "the floor is lava", with summons on top. There are some safe spots though so it can be kinda cheesed.
Right after that one, you fight two ninja at the same time; like with the golems, between their shuriken and jutsu covering the arena they can be hard to deal with, AND if you kill one and let the other alive for too long... you get it, he'll resurrect his friend. You fight them again later but it seemed easier, maybe because they use pretty much the same patterns.
The rematch against the golems (now there's THREE of them) has to be THE hardest fight I've done in this game. HUGE AoE everywhere, with petrification effects; and while the bots usually dodge single attacks pretty well, when they start overlapping you can expect a few one-shots through the fight.

Some late-game enemies seem to love overlapping their AoE attacks as well, but they can usually be more easily interrupted at least.

So, if anyone was worried the game was too easy: don't worry, it's not.

Ah, you don't have a dedicated healer. Grab the midget, put her AI on full protection and nothing else, let her use your items.

Anyone know where I get my third class' gear? I got the class change items in the normal spots.
