Final Fantasy XII Updated On PC and PS4 For Switch/Xbox Exclusive Features, Denuvo DRM Removed

Square Enix has finally updated Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age on PC and PS4. They have removed Denuvo DRM on PC. and added new features.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age launched at a later date for the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The late port resulted in both of these consoles getting additional gameplay features that were not present in the PC and PS4 ports of the game.

It appears that Square Enix has finally decided to update The Zodiac Age for these platforms to bring in new gameplay features. The update is currently out for both PC and PS4. It adds support for Job reset, expands the gambit section to 3 sets, and adds a new OST option in the config menu.

Final Fantasy XII Update 1.08 Patch Notes (1.0.4.0 on PC)
  • Job reset function has been added.
  • Gambit system has been expanded to 3 sets.
  • ‘OST’ has been added under the config menu ‘MUSIC’.
The game has also been updated on PC to remove any trace of the Denuvo DRM. It is currently available to purchase on Steam at a discounted price. The store page has been updated to reflect the removal of Denuvo DRM which was present in the game at launch. It is currently being sold 50% discount so this might be the best time to jump into it.

Update: If you are having issues launching the game on Steam after this update, try copying steam_api64.dll to the \FFXII\x64 folder. It should hopefully fix the game on Steam.

As per the listing on the Nintendo eShop, the following features should be a part of this update for the PS4 and PC ports.
This version features the Zodiac Job System that allows the player to freely grow and develop their characters, picking a unique combination of two jobs from a selection of 12.
Great enjoyment can be had from seeing the capabilities and tactical possibilities of your characters change and evolve depending on the combinations chosen.
The games BGM has been re-recorded using live performances, with sound quality being further enhanced and 5.1ch sound output supported for the first time ever.
You can even switch freely between the original, re-orchestrated and OST versions of the soundtrack.
Both of these features are a part of this new update for Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age on PS4 and PC. The download size of this update is just under 200 MB.

People got mad back in the day that many insulted it by calling it "offline FFXI". It got more gameplay updates than FFXI.

And I bought it today for this very reason. Lets commend Square for doing something right.

Hear, hear. I'd given up hope of ever seeing this update come to PC/PS4, so credit to them for doing something they were under no obligation to do.

Would be beside myself with joy if the DQXI Definitive Edition content followed suit.

This is great! I have it on my backlog and was actually thinking on playing it next after I finish with FFVIIR.

They need to do this for DQ XI on PS4 and give us the extras from Switch.

This so much. I got the game shortly before they announced the Switch version and have it on my backlog waiting to see if we will be able to get those new features in PS4, specially the music.

This is not the update the game needs. There is awful screen tearing or motion blur or something on the base PS4 version that makes the game unplayable for me. I made it to Pharos on my first playthrough but couldn't get past the first few hours when I picked it up again.

Very nice of them to remove the DRM but I'm afraid it will take a lot more than that to make FFXII a good game.

Good on them. Hopefully they update FF7 on PS4 and FF9 on XB1

exactly the kind of thing that pushes me away from PC gaming. I trouble shoot enough at work, and want gaming that doesn’t require research and frustrations such as this.

!Possible Spoiler In the Opening Scene

? I don’t know, got a Content claim by YouTube for it as usual.

It’s been a decade since I’ve played the original, only watched a few LP’s of IZJS. Second best FF next to FF5 for me.

Funny thing about the beginning here is how self-aware the game is in the events and script about melodrama. Just when Reks gets all into the moment with his speech, he gets cut off midway by the soldier. Also, when you speak to the nearby soldier he says the same shit: Save it for later!!! 🔥

One thing that’s annoying is the Controller detection for the buttons. I’m using a DS4 yet it displays the XBox buttons. There are times when I pause the game and it seemingly detects DS4, consequently switching over to the PS buttons but swaps right back to XBox in the instant. Lame.

Could be that the game supports the PS4 controller natively, if your using some xinput emulator or steams controller support (which converts to xinput aswell) it could be messing with it, maybe try turning those off.

Came for 60 fps, left disappointed. Still incredibly subpar on PS4.

That makes sense, it’s probably DS4Windows interfering with the drivers.

PC or nothing, man.

Don't I know it. I bought it by mistake on PSN. Had it lined up, but changed my mind. Problem is, I was used to Switch and started mashing what I thought was the B button to cancel. Turns out it was X instead, and three quick presses was enough, apparently. And that's how I became a not so proud owner of FFXII on PS4. Unintentionally.

Yes. As soon as I booted up the PC version, the option to change the cancel button from X to O was the first thing to hunt down. I’m glad it was added, otherwise it’d have been an easy skip.

Awesome, look forward to replaying FF7 and 9, might have to see how they look on PC (I actually owned the PC version of FF7 back in the day with that weird ass triangle looking Eidos box). Are the X1X versions in native 4k?
