Some people are apparently getting their direct deposits in. Anyone here get lucky yet?

Mnuchin said yesterday that the payments would go out to around 80 million Americans by Wednesday. On Wednesday, they are also launching a page on the IRS site for people who have yet to receive payments. They can input their information and get a direct deposit within a few days if they qualify.

There's got to be a way for the government to identify essential workers. I just think direct payments would be a lot better if feasible. I can imagine way too many situations of companies pocketing a lot of the funds and fucking their employees (firing them in between applying for the support and actually receiving it, etc.).

This would be amazing if true. I work at a care center for people with mental and physical disabilities pretty much 6 days a week. Constantly paranoid of getting ill with nothing to show but long hours and meh pay. The drawback to this heroes fund if passed is its left the company to apply which is bs cause I don't trust this damn company for nothing. Knowing them they will find a way to pocket it.

Site must be getting hammered

I got the text from my bank saying it hit but I couldn’t actually log in and admire it because the app kept crashing, presumably from every client trying to log in at once. Bet it was a fun time to work in a call center for any of the giant mega banks today

I find it weird that some people in here think that if there are temporary monthly checks of 2000 dollars is going to make people want to not work ... That isn't even CLOSE to reality and wouldn't cover half of the things people pay for in life.

It's almost like there are decades of studies available linking welfare with reduced economic production. Here, it took me less than 2 seconds to Google one:

The thing this study fails to ask is why people are on any kind of welfare. I applaud it talking (roundabout) about corporate welfare but the question still stands.

I posit that it's multifold:

Various forms of welfare prop up the families better than the jobs they are able to get.

The jobs that are there that they're able to get are only so because they lack proper education. Meaning that jobs are typically low paying and meet the bare minimum of salary.

They lack proper education because the public schools they went to are designed to fail them (whether in inner cities or rural areas).

This generates a cycle of poverty and reliance on government.

The fact that the government is huge is not the problem. It's the lack of proper and robust public education, which leads to secondary schools, which would lead to well paying jobs and entrepreneurship. Even if a size of the population doesn't make it to higher education and, thus, higher paying jobs, "worker bee" jobs should also have increased pay.

You want to reduce welfare? Increase pay from these large corporations which rake in billions in profits. They can obviously afford it.

But, on topic, a limited amount of money for a limited amount of time (say $1200 per month for 4 months during this crisis) wouldn't lead to people wanting to stay home and collect what amounts to 2 weeks of overtime work FOR A WHOLE MONTH. Which is barely enough to sustain a single person, let alone a whole family. Which was my point.

And before anyone says it, welfare hasn't required the father not be in the same home since the 70s.

There's more to it than that but I'll leave it there for now.

I did the non-filers thing on TurboTax last Wednesday. Got an email the same day saying the IRS accepted it but I need to wait for approval.

I haven't seen shit so far and worried I won't.

I fill tax for 1099 form and when i input my data it say something like we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time.

I keep getting the same thing. I owed taxes both in 2018 and 2019 and I think I don’t have a status to check since my bank account info for these years is not on file Like it would be if I were getting a refund.

$2000 a month for the rest of the year? I doubt that will happen.

these articles are click bait as people are anxious for another stimulus. They pop up in my news feeds like every other day. They’re citing sources from early April and there hasn’t been much new to report on another cash stimulus.

No way in hell they do 2k a month. I doubt there even will be another as states are starting to open up.

We won't know anything new until the end of May most likely. Senate has extended their recess until May 15th (previously May 4th).

The idea that legislators should be in recess at a time like this is so completely insane to me.

Ironic isn't it? That some people still have to work through this and they don't. Guess the senate isn't an "essential service."

Some are opening but cities like mine aren't opening until at least June. The lifeblood at least is staying closed. People here are really hurting.

Anyone else get a letter from Trump in the mail announcing your payment?
Got the letter today. Already got the check 2 weeks ago. Also I had mine direct deposited into my
checking account. For anyone who didn't get their check, did you file your taxes online and have
it direct deposited in your bank account? I've always did my taxes online and would get my
refund in 2 weeks or less, especially if you did them early/asap.

Hell I got my refund in a week this year for doing it direct.

If you have your bank account on file with the IRS, they can send your refund right away electronically.
If not, they have to print it, then go through the mail system, which could take up to 3 weeks.

Why would that make you a retard? Wasn't the stimulus check supposed to stimulate the economy?

Daddy Trump wanted you to buy that shit.

Agreed, but if he has bill trouble, which is the way I read that, that wasn’t really the greatest move for him, personally. Lol.

Hopefully he doesn’t, and can just enjoy his stuff. There’s indeed no shame in spending it frivolously if you’re financially secure, as again, that’s exactly half of the reason the checks are going out.
