Since everything else also got cancelled, there's now esports as plan B. In this one we see racing drivers (F1, Formula E, Indy 500, DTM, LeMans) vs simracers:

So the F1 season is being pushed further back, with the big 2021 rule changes being pushed all the way to 2022. But the new budget cap will be in place.

What do you do with a high tech industry that is used to dealing with constantly changing challenges and is put on hold for a few months?

BBC said:
Formula 1 teams are working with government and health authorities to increase the supply of ventilators during the coronavirus crisis.

A number of teams have applied-technologies divisions that could directly feed into the national production capacity of ventilators in the UK and Italy, particularly McLaren, Red Bull, Williams, Mercedes and Ferrari.

I feel like this season will be symbolic at beast. Might not even happen if the situation in Europe will continue to deteroriate this fast or it will be exclusive to non-European countries.

Today is the next all stars race on the race YouTube channel.

The official F1 channel also starts broadcasting historic races.

In the 50ies formula 1 seasons could be as short as 7 races. Looks like we are going back in time.

Only corona and Nico Rosberg can keep Hamilton from a title in a Mercedes.

f1 showing the pretty fun 2016 Brazil race on YouTube.

The "official" race on the F1 channel was a yoke. GP2 engine level of driving. The unofficial races on the race youtube racing channel were quite decent races with racy racers.

I just saw ESPN show it on their bottom ticker. It’s slow news right now.

But I could see the logic to speculate how healthy athletes could get immunity and move on with their life and sports. It just sounds crazy and irresponsible and was shot down.

Another world champion they failed to deliver a good car for. ;) It will be interesting if he stays in a top team (or in F1 at all) and who will replace him. I'd love for Daniel to get the seat, he's miserable in Renault anyway.

I read Vettel has offers from McLaren and Renault.
He should have stayed with RedBull. I think the culture and Britishness of the RB F1 team was a better fit for Vettel.
It always looked as if he was trying his best to impress the Italians, but he could never quite get it right.
I agree it would be good for Daniel to take his place – the guy's wasted at Renault.

Ricciardo and Sainz seem to be the most likely candidates. I don't think Giovinazzi is good enough for the seat even though he improved in the second half of last year.

I wonder if Fernando already called the team to offer his services. ;)

Giovinazzi isn't exactly setting the world alight next to Kimi, I think Leclerc would just drive circles around him. Would love to see Ricciardo in red! Sainz might be good as well, but McLaren is on the up and Ferrari is so good in self-sabotage, would you really risk leaving a well working team for that?

I think whoever joins Ferrari is going to have to be happy with Leclerc being the No 1 driver. I wouldn't be shocked if Kimi returned.

Candidate for Ferrari seat :

-Sainz
-Riciardo
-Giovinazi
-Hulkenberg
-Rosberg
-Perez
-Schumacher
Mick is probably even less likely than Kimi or Fernando. They won't promote him even quicker than Charles (I'm talking about completed F1 seasons), especially considering he's not shining in F2.

True. I think most of the rumored candidates would be okay with being no2 if it meant they'd be driving for Ferrari. Daniel would be an obvious exception, but on the other hand he may not have better offers than a Renault extension.

Riciardo going to Ferrari behind Leclerc is the same situation as him wih Verstappen in RBR

He doesnt like being a wingman

If Sainz willing to cooperate its posible

Otherwise its Hulkenberg or Giovinazi

I'm hoping that Daniel has changed his approach since transferring to Renault. Yes Red Bull was and still is focusing on Max, but being a part of a midfield team that's never going to leave the midfield is an ever worse choice imo.

RUMOR : YET TO BE CONFIRMED : SAINZ TO REPLACE VETTEL IN 2021

According to Motorsport Italia, Carlos Sainz will be confirmed as Charles Leclerc’s new Ferrari team-mate in the next 48 hours.

The Formula 1 silly season was sent into full swing after Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari confirmed the overnight rumours on Tuesday morning that an agreement could not be found in extending Vettel’s stay beyond the end of 2020.

The likes of Lewis Hamilton, Daniel Ricciardo, Fernando Alonso and Antonio Giovinazzi have all been linked with Ferrari in recent months, but, according to Motorsport.com in Italy, Sainz is expected to be unveiled as Ferrari’s new 2021 driver in the coming days.

The report states that the deal between Sainz and Ferrari is only missing the ‘final details’ and that Daniel Ricciardo was the other driver in the main frame to replace Vettel.

But Sainz, who has reportedly stalled on signing a two-year contract extension with McLaren, has bagged himself the Ferrari drive alongside Leclerc.

Sainz has over 100 Formula 1 appearances under his belt and the 25-year-old enjoyed his strongest season yet in 2019 when finishing best of the rest in the standings for McLaren.

His best achievement to date came in the penultimate race of the 2019 campaign at the Brazilian Grand Prix where he finished on the podium, in P3, for the first time in his career.

Sainz has welcomed previous rumours linking him to Ferrari, saying he is confident in his own abilities to perform for any of the top teams.

“I am confident in my abilities,” Sainz told AS.

“Last year I took a very important step and I am capable of doing very good things in a McLaren, in a Ferrari or in a Mercedes.”

Vettel, meanwhile, has been linked with a move to McLaren, where he would join forces again with Andrea Seidl having previously worked together at BMW.

Ferrari did pretty great with Vettel for a couple years but Mercedes and Hamilton existed. No other team has come close to beating Mercedes this entire era.

Vettel at Mclaren would be great with their rise and Mercedes engines in 2021. A shame Ricciardo tanked his career with fucking Renault. He’s 30 as a talented younger generation fills in around him.

He left Red Bull because Ricciardo destroyed him. Now he’s being destroyed by Leclerc. He’s a busted flush, has been found out and won’t get a championship level drive again.

He’s a busted flush, [...]
He's a 4 time world champion and was the past few years the only one who offered any noticeable resistance to Hamilton's WDC-run, being runner up twice. His drive in Hockenheim 2019 from 20th to 2nd was phenomenal, in the same race where "the Destroyer" Leclerc was parking his car in the wall while having a clear shot for the win. Calling Vettel "a busted flush" is IMO uncalled for.

I sense I've hit a raw nerve. First up, you and I both know that in F1 your finishing position is determined by your car. The only person actually competing with you is your teammate. 4 times world champion in a car vastly better than the others with a slow teammate isn't much to brag about. He just got pole and wandered off into the distance without ever having to actually race because Newey designed such a good car. He was found wanting when that advantage went away and he had to race people - that's when the crashes started happening, almost every time he goes wheel to wheel with someone fighting for position. Leclerc on the other hand bested Hamilton in battle, learning from the first time when Hamilton bullied him.

Remember that these days coming up from 20th is easy because teams strategically don't fight lead cars coming through knowing they'll just lose time and kill their tyres - ultimately the gap between the big 3 and the rest is so huge that it's really more akin to the prototypes overtaking the GT cars in a lemans race (or if you want to be more generous, overtaking an F2 car in an F1 car) - meaningless.

Lol no, but I see a lot of Vettel-bashing that makes it sound as if any trained monkey could have won the WDC 4 times with RBR. Yes Newey designed a good car, but there were more competitive teams in 2010-2013 than there are now (with exception of 2011 maybe, where only McLaren offered any real opposition). 2012 had five different constructors winning the first 5 races. 2013 had 4 different constructors winning races. So clearly, it was easier then for more than two or maybe the three top teams to win than it was since 2014. But that is brushed under Neweys' magic car(pet).

Anyway, I already congratulate Lewis Hamilton to his 2021 WDC title :p

We're talking the same race Hamilton, Bottas and Leclerc all hit the wall at some point. So they didn't get the memo that it would be super easy to drive :D

Carlos Sainz to be announced soon?
According to Italian newspapers within the next 24 hours?

And it seems Vettel himself leaked the breakdown of negotiations to the German press. So it's less of a leak, more of a "trying to force Ferrari to make an announcement".

So what's next? Who will go to McLaren?

Well that's the only way of getting behind the wheel of a Mercedes powered car. ;)

It would be funny if Daniel and Seb got back together in another team. And what would happen to Lando? Reserve driver, Renault seat?

Danric is apparently one of the highest paid drivers in f1 right now, will McLaren match the Renault salary before the cost caps come in?

I don't think he'd get a paycheck like that again even if Ferrari wanted to hire him. He needs a reality check if he wants to switch to another team.
