Where the hell is Splinter Cell?

Just seeing the title of this thread is giving me that itch.

I'm gonna play some Chaos Theory tonight.

EDIT: Also, I still can't believe they brought back GOAT Ironside a stupid Ghost Recon DLC (TWICE).

Whens the last time Ubisoft even make a linear single player game? They are gonna sacrifice the tight level design to make it open world and put some microtransactions in it for good measure.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
They're probably working hard to either reboot the game with Samantha Fisher as the lead, or figuring out how to make Sam Fisher gay.

Splinter cell being fairly linear stealth game contradicts with ubisoft's policy making open-world clones. Just a theory though.

Finished Conviction recently, then Blacklist, now I'm replaying Chaos Theory. Been waiting for a new Splinter Cell every god damn E3 for the last 4 years, no joking.

I tend to think that Ubisoft doesn't know how to deliver a new entry of Splinter Cell and not turning it into a microtransaction loot fest, and another open world that competes with the few games that match into this category like The Division 1, the division 2, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Watchdogs, Watchdogs 2, Watchdogs Legion, Assassins Creed Origins, Assassins Creed Odyssey, Assassins Creed Valhalla, and the other Assassins Creed like Unity and Syndicate, Farcry Primal, Farcry 5, 4, 3 and........those bunch of games.

I'm really hoping for a new Splinter Cell, but I'm pretty sure that also, and most probably not going to like it.

There has been a massive Splinter Cell-shaped hole in my life for far too long. I love the whole series, but Conviction and Blacklist are god damned amazing. I still replay missions from both regularly. Probably in the Top 3 game series for me.

That said, I have no idea why it has been MIA for so long. And I’m very afraid of whatever Ubi has planned, if anything.

On that same note, it has been a drought for big stealth games for years now. Metal Gear has died, Splinter Cell might as well be dead, and Batman is nowhere to be seen.

Where the hell is Splinter Cell?

in hell where it belongs until they find another TV series that inspire a new entry in the series

Might be trying to capitalize on the success of MGSV with an open world experience. Hopefully with an actual finished game in contrast to MGSV.

Continuing the story as Sarah Fisher would have made sense and would have opened up some gameplay mechanics with a more agile, nimble agent.

Too bad they fucked that up. 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

I was recently watching a retrospective on the series and it got me thinking about a next gen Splinter Cell.
If there's a new entry, it needs to lose the daytime levels and return to more closed urban environments. Less Ghost Recon, more old school Splinter Cell.

I particularly liked the lone night stalker ambience of the first game. It would be great if they could recapture that.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
It's very possibly the secret home (so not those location based themed escape room things) VR game by Ubisoft that they have nimSony among others hired to work on. Or not, who the f knows. Could be pretty cool if it's like a higher budget/less toony version of indie stuff like this:

The only Ubisoft franchise I really cared about and it’s missing. Ubi you dumb fucks. It’s time.

MGSV is a finished game, Kojima just couldn't control himself and just end it where it should have ended.
I completely disagree. Kojima likes to go over the top with his video game endings (as evidenced by all the MGS games and Death Stranding). There is no way a whimper like mission 31 (or 46)was meant to be the ending.

There's also the cassette tapes in the main game that explain/hint at future Snakes vision loss (in relation to the cut Eli mission). Kojima likely had much more planned for the game, even ignoring the Eli mission IMO.

It should have ended after 31, it's so clear to me. Get Huey stuff in line to happen after the mission, maybe redo the Quiet thing, get the Man on Fire body during the mission when Ocelot says it wasn't located, fuck Eli anyway and there you have it, plenty of killer material to make the epic final cutscene it should have been. But no, we were treated to 20 more missions (half of those are repeats) where nothing happens basically.

Don't get me wrong, MGSV has issues but I don't think it's unfinished. I think it's overdone. Kojima badly needs an editor for his next game.

It's next to Prince of Persia, in hell.

But honestly, more than Prince of Persia, fans let down the series. Conviction was fantastic and a new radical invention for stealth gameplay. Every main stealth series has since copied marking enemies, like Uncharted, and Metal Gear. It was amazing, and Blacklist just expanded it.

Fans were shitty towards Conviction and Blacklist and were conservative, and slow to adapt. It was a new series, from a new team, and worthy of supporting at that time. But people just lionized the old Xbox 1 games and failed to buy or support the new series so now its dead.

In this case, I really do blame fans. Both the new games were great and both games were recognized as influential by game devs who copied them. Fans were slow to support them both and failed.

Wasn't even in development as of last year according to Jasoy Schrieir.

Oh well, at least I don't have to suffer through another Ubi E3 hoping to see it.

Imo it's a combination of a few things:

1) To get it to a high standard it will take a lot of money, as far as what people expect of AAA today.
2) The type of game it is doesn't sell a lot of copies & there's little room for mtx.
3) Given 1)&2) the opportunity cost for Ubi to do this instead of more open-world games is too high, so not enough ROI to be worth considering.
4) It's also really difficult to pull off stealth games well & it's a pickier fanbase, so that can mean lower sales as well, and a higher chance of failing.

That's why I think it makes sense they'd try to make it for VR as seen above. Lower dev costs, lower expectations, less competition, and stealth translates well to VR.

I absolutely loved Blacklist. I thought it was a fantastic game. I loved the campaign and the online multiplayer was fun as hell. I desperately wished for a PS4 release so I would have spies Vs mercs this generation, but it didn't happen. We need a Splinter Cell game and we need it earlier in the generation. Please happen next gen. I beg.

Let's talk about this shit. Such an iconic game series that has vanished. BRING back the series as a launch title for the ps5 or series X, you cowards.
Well, because the 4k patches on the xbox one x I replayed all titles a while. I really miss those games.
Well after replaying conviction I realized, it wasn't such a bad game, but it wasn't Splinter Cell either.
I really don't know why this genre died like so many others. E.g. Alpha Protocol was also good, but it had some bugs that were never fixed. It also deserves a remake.
Well Splinter Cell 1-3 didn't age that well. They deserve at least a remaster with updated controls.

I'm still waiting for an OG Xbox emulator so I can finally play the original version of Double Agent. I heard good things about it. They really dropped the ball on the next gen versions.
