How will Xbox One effect Halo Infinte?

Now I’m sure Halo is going to look amazing on Series X.

Thing is the Xbox One is an incredibly low powered machine.

How do you feel Halo will run considering the budget of this title and do you think it will have held back the scope of the title at all?

Are they just going to lock it at 720p and 30fps and be done with it?

Something like this I guess.

in scope etc... they can do something like that

and more polish is possible since first party

edit: low anisotropic filtering and pop in kills it often if you look past 20M imo

In some respects, it’s going to have to be mindful of the original Xbox One.

Encounter design, world design, just a few things off the top of my head, are going to have to be geared towards how many enemies the Xbox One can render, what all it can show at the same time, etc.

I expect a very pretty game, because as we saw with the recent PC/Xbox One/Xbox One X Microsoft games, lower-powered hardware doesn’t seem to exclude serious, wowing visual improvements on more powerful platforms/set-ups.

I just expect some hard limits that might make Infinite a little less next-gen in subtle ways.

Never thought of Halo as a looker as of last two gens but it's all about the engine scaling bro. I'm sure it'll be OK but not all it could be.

Well, decidedly, the X1 version won’t be the best way to play. But inherently hardware limitations limit the designers and developers.

Aye, true. What's the drop-off point for low specs on a game like Apex Legends?

APEX LEGENDS MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7.
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-6300 3.8GHz / AMD FX-4350 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor.
  • RAM: 6GB.
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 / Radeon HD 7730.
  • GPU RAM: 1 GB.
  • HARD DRIVE: Minimum 22 GB of free space.
dont forget loads of games at the beginning of a gen are cross gen. happens every gen, I get that it is a bit diff jumping to SSD but as epic has said the UE5 will run on all hardware but scaled down on lower end stuff

Isn’t Halo Infinite actually an Xbox One game? I mean actually conceived and developed for it?

Therefore isn’t the thread title completely the wrong question?

A better question might be “what improvements might Halo Infinite see on the Series X?”.

To be fair halo has had some awesome open world and corridor level designs, I cant see how this will change much tbh

Based on trailers I think they are going back to more open world design so 60FPS on X one consoles is probably out of the question compared to linear H5. Still, this gen CPUs will limit scope of this cross gen games.

There has been only one trailer so far? It didn’t show anything other than master chief

probably the game is designed for xbox one and more powerful consoles will increase graphic detail

Cross gen is usually fine but have we had cross gen games coming off of the back of such a weak generation? Og Xbox was massively powerful, likewise the 360 and ps3. The ps4 and xbone were already lackluster.

343i has already claimed their priority to framerate with halo 5 going forward. The XBO base and S will likely see a 680-720p 60fps version with lower settings while the X gets a 1440p upgrade with higher settings and the SX will get pretty much maxed out at 1800p-4k.

it’ll look amazing on the sx but lets not fool ourselves: this started off as an xbox one game with the xbox one x acting as the “bext big thing” during early development (considering this Was revealed when scorpio got the one x namedrop)

I very much agree with this, but I would imagine that them reviewing the timeframe for a likely launch, and building with Series X deeply in mind, is a possibility.

Especially for a sleeping dragon like Halo. The more Infinite impresses on Day 1, the more Series Xs (what an awkward plural) get sold, and the higher-ups have to be especially conscientious of that.

Again the game were scaled down, have you gone back and looked at how the first games are of a gen to the later games in a gen? It’s hard to believe they running on the same hardware sometimes

Being that it's an in-house studio working on it with a massive budget, I don't see why they couldn't have a separate team working on the current gen version while optimizing for Xbox Series X. No game, even when exclusive, is going to be maximizing the hardware right away (See PS4 launch exclusives or any other launch exclusives for that matter).

Halo Infinite can theoretically be built optimizing it for Xbox Series X, then doing what needs to be done to get it to work for Xbox One X and down, same way they built The Witcher 3 with no intention of bringing it all the way down to the Nintendo Switch, but they got it done.

If MS plays its cards right, the burden will be on them to make it happen and not take the easy route and build a game that works on all the exact same way. Xbox One will have compromises, and when that happens, if gamers complain about XSX having advantages, they can always upgrade lol.

the game was originally planned for Xbox One, so if anything now that they have the base line done they can just pile every last bit of extra shit ontop of the Series X and PC versions.

meaning the game will most likely have a very stable performance, maybe even a 1080p120fps mode, at least for Multiplayer 120fps shouldn't be much of an issue even at higher resolutions.

so what I expect is a way more pushed out drawdistance, maybe raytracing reflections, but I actually doubt it, and way higher resolution textures.

another thing that can most likely be massively improved is animations in the distance.
on Xbox One we will most likely see another case where distant enemies will animate at half framerate like in Halo 5, and that's something that can be massively improved on Series X.

so IMO it is wrong to think about how the Xbox One will affect the game and it's way more logical to think of it as an Xbox One game that gets massive improvements the higher you go up the food chain:
One < One S < One X < Series S < Series X < PC

They should be separate developers. Like Forza Horizon 2 was. doubt it though.

Seeing as all Xbox games for a while will get Xbox One versions, I doubt they'd go through making multiple versions by separate teams.

It will be basically what we have now with the base One and One X. The game is made for the original Xbox One and just up-resed, etc for the Series X.

I do believe the SX will be their priority, (its generally easier to build up and then scale down than the other way around) and while the base XBO will see 60fps, it may not be locked. Though i was impressed with how H5 keeps up 60fps even in warzone on the base xbox one so my doubts are fairly minimal.

Yeah its not like halo 5 ain’t a looker is it. Not the greatest halo game we all know that but visually it was good. As long as infinte looks like that on the xbox one it will be fine, on the Sx it will have raytracing, better lighting , Higher res textures and possibly more. It wont be just an up-resd port and that’s it

A)Did you see Forza 2 for Xbox 360 and Xbox One?
B)Did you hear the budget size set aside for Halo Infinite?
C)Having seen A+B. Do you still doubt?

The thing I am worried about is A. I.
Can they make open wold free roam game and good AI on Jaguar? Cos SeX ll get SeX GFX but it ll have XBone AI.

I have my doubts that the AI will be the same between the two versions. The X1 version has to have the same amount of enemies and splitscreen and after the big stink they made about 60 fps in Halo 5 they can't go back to 30. The easiest way to make cuts in the X1 version is the AI. Its what they did in Halo 4 to get it to look so good on the 360.
