NFL.com lists Colin Kaepernick as “retired” then changes it after being called out

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t retired, and now the league-owned website properly reflects that fact.

NFL.com has changed Kaepernick’s designationfrom “retired” to “UFA,” presumably after the incorrect verbiage was brought to light on Friday night.

Barring an incredibly dramatic and unexpected development, Kaepernick’s designation at NFL.comdoesn’t matter. No one is going to offer him a job after three years out of the sport, and the window has long closed on the kind of collective outcry that would change it.

It turns out the mistake is because a player needs to formally file paperwork for retirement. The lack of employment over a long period of time isn’t the same.

With the sub-par play at the end of his time on the field, mixed with his outrageous salary demands, it’s no wonder teams have no interest. And let’s not forget he opted out of the final year of his contract, leaving $14.5 million guaranteed. Him not filling out the retirement paperwork was just so he can claim outrage yet again.

I honestly don’t care anymore. I support Colin’s silent protest, I support kneeling, I definitely think he deserved to be in the NFL, at least as quality backup, but that ship has sailed. Sailed long ago, really. In NFL years he’s been gone a lifetime.

He’s been gone longer than most players’ careers.

If he was signed today he would almost certainly struggle and it would just give “see, told you he sucks” crowd more ammo, fair or not.

It just isn’t gonna happen. It would have happened already.

In the NFL, retirement is an official, objective thing, you literally file retirement papers with the league. If you haven't done that, you are a free agent. So it seems pretty cut and dry that they mischaracterized him.

If you lose your job to Blaine Gabbert you should be labeled “retired”.

Thankfully, they changed it to the correct ‘retard’, shortly after.
That's what they called him after the 3rd straight corner fade to Crabtree that failed miserably in the SB against the Ravens. And then he threw a fourth FADE TO CRABTREE, because 3 catastrophic failures wasn't enough.

Outplayed by Joe "I'm an elite middle of the pack quarterback" Flacco and Ray "Nobody gave us a chance (but in secret I shot everyone that gave us a chance so this would be a feel good story)" Lewis.

Flacco was red hot that entire playoff run. I think he tied a couple post-season records. He went 22/33 for 287 yards and 3 TDs in that super bowl. Just like Nick Foles playing out of his mind during the Eagles Super Bowl run. It happens in sports, sometimes you just get hot. Flacco played above himself during that whole streak.

Also, blame Harbaugh for the fades. Not Kap.

No ones giving him a chance so might as well mail in those retirement papers. He shot himself in the foot with the botched attempt of a workout that never went down.

Kapernick can’t call a audible?

Whether or not his grievance was justified, it doesn't seem as if he's making a serious effort to join a team.

I used to kind of support him, but over timeI’ve come to feel he’s not bringing anything positive to the table. I think he’s a cog in a false narrative that has been sold to blacks in America for years. It’s really been great for young, black males how he’s hammered home the message or structural racism, and cops being jackbooted thugs looking for any reason to gun down a black man in the streets. Never once mentioning that a population that is less than 15% of our country is committing more than half the murders, most being within their own communities.
And unfortunately, since the white man will only allow you to be an athlete or rapper if that doesn’t pan out you’re left with what you see in most American cities.

There is some truth to his position. There will always be bad cops. You don’t find people that are willing to initiate contact with a 6’5 dude that’s been lifting in jail for years without potentially hiring a violent person, most people fold at the slightest confrontation these days. Men willing to commit violence always will attract some bad men. But Kaepernick is instilling that terror that in a routine traffic stop you are liable to be killed. That fear causes the high tension interactions with police who are just as scared. And the narrative that cops are gunning for blacks is untrue. Statistics cut right through all of that and their readily available for anyone to see.

So in short, fuck dude. Plus stop pretending you’re trying to ball, you’re not. A few years ago I was less against Kaepernick, but he’s shown his character over the last few years, and found out how lucrative liberal guilt was.

His workout stunt made me realize that he was simply playing a character and wasn't at all serious about coming back. No NFL team would waste their time on this fool.

He apparently has something like 20 million dollars. I'd definitely just call it. Live life, make investments, and sit back.

They should have just removed the "re" from the word retired and left it as that, it would've been more accurate anyway.
