She worked on it with her team while she was on IBM, so...

It was Jim Kahle's team, working under the direction of Ken Kutaragi and John Kelly...

Can you give us a picture of what you contributed to design of the Cell processor?
I was the Lead Architect for Cell. I was the first manager putting together the Design Center, and created all the basic structures that the team would work together in. So, pretty much responsible for all the different aspects of the Design Center, the collaboration, and the technology we put together. -- James Kahle

Excerpts from: A Cell of a chip Key players weigh in...

Lisa Su, vice president of technology development and alliances, STG, and Jim Kahle, IBM Fellow and lead architect for Cell, STG, have been involved with the Cell project from day one. Here are their thoughts on some significant aspects of this announcement.

Lisa Su: We announced the Austin design center with Sony and Toshiba in March of 2001, and before that we spent about a year defining the architecture. It was unique in that we had the ability to start with a clean sheet of paper, under the direction of both Ken Kutaragi of Sony and John Kelly of IBM. ISSCC marks the first time we are talking about the technical details of the project.

That's why Kahle (not Lisa Su) was part of Sony's E3 presser back in 2005 (timestamped)...

Saying she worked on the CELL project isn't the same as saying she "made the cell", so...

Being the Lead Architect, is a pretty big fucking deal. Yes she took care of a lot of leadership/administration, but I doubt that was all.

Was that a real controller I vaguely remember that with the reveal of the ps3 but I just can’t believe that was the actual original pa3 controller.

It was the original design for PS3 controller. How the hell are you even supposed to hold that in your hands without breaking your wrists?

Seriously... This Cerny's Talk has more information every time I see it... The example Cerny uses to describe the audio in the PS5 and the rumor of the Dualsense... I might be sounding superstitious... but let me know what you think...

I would love to see properly good virtual audio from a soundbar (Because thats what most people have if they dont just use the TV speakers)/speakers. I have it on my Sony ZF9, its called Vertical Surround, adds "height" to audio sources with at least 2 channels. It works well enough but it makes the audio too bright and only works when you are straight-on to the soundbar and with actual Atmos or DTS:X sources.

So you need to channels to actually still be there, which shouldn't be a problem if the PS5 outputs 7.1.2/Atmos and/or DTS:X. I bought it more for the uncompressed audio support anyway but would be cool to have the Tempest Engine works with it via update or whatever. Did they say if sound systems will need updates to support it or is it all done in the PS5?

Bro.. how does it make sense to feel rain on your hands when holding a controller using a little motor that vibrates?

lol.. 3D audio and weather effects make perfect sense.

Controller haptic, don't. That's honestly a dev thinking about haptics the same way they did rumble (something happens on screen, make it rumble!) Haptics should be about making your hands/fingers think you are touching something you aren't, or using a machine you aren't using, that sort of thing.

Haptic feedback is very importnant. I've just bought s20 after having iphones for couple of years ( x and xs max) and the vibration from IP is much more gentle. It's the only thing i really miss :p

If the rumor of the Dev talking about the controller is true, I would expect a PS5 demo in the devkits, explaining how the new motion works, that same demo, to show the new 3D audio. Again, this is all if the first rumor is true.

Take immersion to the next level: In Motorstorm 4 after a session the controller and your hands are literally covered in mud and gravel.

Or in The Last of Us Part 3 you are playing and a small, chubby asian girl with a PSP bursts in the room and comes at you with a knife! You have to keep playing while you tussle with her, whew, intense...

After the tussle you can hear the tinny sound of M.O.O.N. in the background...

Haptics are awesome; I'm not saying they aren't.

I'm saying "feeling rain" just doesn't make a lot of sense for a device held in your hands. Haptics should be used to simulate what your hands would feel in the game, or how a bow or trigger has weight.. that sort of thing.

Maybe if someone is pissing on your hands in the game?

I'm sure there was more, but it didn't involve her authoritatively driving the direction of CELL's architecture or working in a lab designing CELL's architecture.

Holy shit, that train is going so fast and is so overloaded that if we get dissappointed in any way the whole train and everyone on it is gonna be sublimated instantly. It'll be like what Cage said happened to Sean Connery at the end of The Rock, only way more violent.

Let's keep calm guys. We should go by what the Playstation blog tells us.

Yep I'm expecting only that and probably a countdown screen for ages.

Expect that and anything else is a bonus.

I'm also glad this seem to go ahead. You cant keep stopping events for things when something bad happens in 1 country.

Nothing would ever happen, especially this day and age with the pandemic likely to roll on in the background for ages.

Xbox Series X DirectML: A Next-Generation Game Changer

Microsoft’s DirectML has the potential to become a game-changer for the next-generation Xbox console. It should allow developers to create next-generation games that run at 4K resolution but also run at a higher frame rate, offering ray tracing at the same time.

Xbox Series X supports Machine Learning for games with DirectML, a component of DirectX. DirectML leverages unprecedented hardware performance in a console. Benefiting from over 24 TFLOPS of 16-bit float performance, and over 97 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of 4-bit integer performance on Xbox Series X. Machine Learning can improve a wide range of areas, such as making NPCs much smarter, providing vastly more lifelike animation, and greatly improving visual quality.

You quote a three week old post of mine just to prove me wrong when I jokingly made a comment about Lisa Su being Team Sony because she made the cell.

I ignored you so you quoted a guy who laughed at my joke, and he took your bait. After a few back and forths you did you finally did your research and came upon this little nugget.

Lisa Su, vice president of technology development and alliances, STG, and Jim Kahle, IBM Fellow and lead architect for Cell, STG, have been involved with the Cell project from day one. Here are their thoughts on some significant aspects of this announcement.
You underlined the bit about Jim being the lead architect, but forgot to notice the 'have been involved with the cell project from day one' bit. That indicates both were involved with the cell from day one. it's bizarre because the interview you posted literally interviews both Lisa and Jim. Does it really matter who was the lead architect? Are we really being that petty? What did you want her to do? Solder or weld the cell onto each ps3 herself?

Your quote literally proves you wrong.

This was the same talk with dx12 and we know what we got. We shall see. Sony will of course have their own apis and version tht will be as good or maybe better. At least thts what happened this gen with dx12.

I look forward to seeing how all these things play out.
