Around 150,000 people die every day on this planet. Claiming that some deaths are more important than others is no different to claiming that one skin colour is better.

usa media basically controls 70% of world English media. So anything that happens in USA has a disproportionate effect on global culture. Eg. two buildings get destroyed in New York, world shuts down. Genocide in Yeman? Crickets.

I understand what you're saying. It is a bummer. I am really bummed, but if you try to think of the business side....

If you put yourself in the shoes of the upper business execs, there would have been people/outlets calling them insensitive or apathetic if they had been the only ones not delaying an event this week.

it doesn't hurt their timing/positioning whatsoever to push it back a week or two and let things simmer down. Businesses are being burnt to the ground in some cities. It will pass. Timing is important, and Sony still has plenty of time to get it right/perfect
I hope they have a huge backlash and loose money for this. This is pure corporate virtue signaling that won't help anyone or anything. I fact it just ruined my day.

A bit surprised by this cancellation.

I don’t think the PS5 event would distract us from what’s happening. If anything, it’s one of the things that brings everyone together...

My group of gaming friends happens to be the most diverse of my close circles.

Tough call still, I respect their decision.

Looking forward to seeing how they are going to reschedule. We had riots for a year in France.

It's about how they die, and by whom. A black man was murdered by a police officer who is supposed to serve and protect him.

There are many cases of police officers killing black people due to racial profiling, of course. But I've seen a few videos and it always seemed to me the police officer was panicking or acting stressfully in the situation (like the infamous video last year when a police officer shot a black man inside his car after freaking when the black driver calmly told him he had a gun as he slowly went for his license). It was horrible, but you could see the police officer freaked out. It was a horrible mistake caused by inexperience and racial profiling.

WARNING: Video contains disturbing images - DO NOT WATCH IF YOU'RE UNSURE YOU CAN HANDLE IT

The George Floyd case is different, however. The coip murdered him in a calm, orderly, calculated fashion which almost seemed surreal. It was like the Law was telling black people "We can end you whenever we feel like it, and you just have to sit down and take it." This is what made thousands of black and white sympathizers to go apeshit and protest (and riot). It's a slap in the face of human rights for many people and they want change and justice. You can just equate this to a murder charge or a terrorist hit. These things happen by people who want to hurt you.

George Floyd was murdered by a man who was supposed to keep him safe, and was murdered in a way that rivals dogs being put down.

as Long as it’s quiet, I really don’t care. Don’t know why people make such a fuss about it.
I‘d rather have this than a small and loud jet engine console.

Well if you live alone or just don’t have any style - sure fill up your living space with ugly looking pieces of tech...

Personally I prefer to see nice things in my homes.

The entitled gamer toy-throwing meltdown was inevitable I suppose. The pseudo-intellectual moral arguments as to why it’s a bad decision are ridiculous. The threats of repercussion for delaying a fucking promotional event are absolutely pathetic. I hope I’ve just been reading comments written by children that don’t really know how to express themselves or understand the gravity of what is happening.

I’m disappointed the event is cancelled, but I’ve seen more posted on social media in the last few days that has made me far more angry than a preview being pushed back some weeks.

I’ll stay on the train until further notice. I also hope some actual good can be traced back to this uprising of the systematically oppressed.

So maybe I'm a bit out of the loop here, but how exactly does rioting and destroying people's livelihood help further the political and social debate over systematic discrimination? I know its only a few people who actually do that, but what the fuck. There are simply too many stupid people per 1000 citizens.

Thats why we dont deserve nice things.

I know we are all very entitled here, like the good gamers that we are. I'm just fed up with all the shit that goes on in this country. Corporations cant do shit.
They only change when it makes sense for their bottom line, or when it is mandated by law. Thats at least somewhat controllable and hardly the problem.

Thats why all the peace talk coming from companies is absolutely meaningless. The problem lies deep in the roots of the american society. Thats something no company can just change, because you cant change the stance on a racist by saying nice things. Thats not how it works. And corporations cant meaningfully fight back racism, because McDonalds wont stop serving some racist, facist, sexist asshole. Thats not possible and its not in the interest of any company to discriminate their own customers.

Its a political and social problem of the american people and needs to be fought on this level. Businesses should be left out of it, because its all meaningless bullshit coming out of their mouths anyway.

I can understand the decision of Sony from a PR and business standpoint.

I guess I'll just read some ancient philosophy books. At least they won't be postponed over and over due to whatever unrelated disgrace happens in the World (or in a country that matters to them).

That’s really only a small part of the picture IMO. I remember when an Australian white woman was over there and called the police for help and got killed by them then too.

It doesn’t matter colour, the police shouldn’t have guns period over there. Theirs plenty of non-leathal weapons they can use instead.

I Was so certain it would still happen since they were running commercials...hopefully the delay doesn’t last too long.

I understand why they did it though and I’ll leave it at that.

I’m struggling to understand why postponing is a good decision...
Thers basically a human rights war going on the streets. And the images of it are spreading everywhere in the world with people protesting even in New Zealand... It's not time for the entreteinment... And the Ps5 presentation, the console war... All of this shit don't have any sense in this moment. Imagine how strange it would be to finish viewing the Ps5 conference and then open Twitter with the images of DC in fire. Or other brutal images. You don't go to sleep happy thinking about the Ps5. Thers a time for everything... Now is not the time for the Ps5/Sega/Xbox stuff

Agreed with you. Sony didn't delay the event out of the goodness of their heart. Or that they care. They don't. It's just politics, and the fear of getting called out was higher than the reveal of the console.

So stop praising Sony for cancelling the event, it has nothing to do with humanity in general.

if they're claiming that their reveal is as big as the ps5 which sounds like a big deal.......man, im really starting to think they're making a new console lol that would be huge

I keep seeing this being said, but wasn’t it a big scoop for Famitsu (in the same way Wired got the PS5 scoop), and not that what is being revealed is as big as a PS5 reveal?

That’s how I understood the original translated post.

America is on fire, basically. Some asshole cop basically murdered a black civilian and now people are rightfully freaking out. And rioting.
I don’t want to get into politics here but that is part of the story. The cop should be condemned and that is happening. People have a right to protest and that is happening. But others are just out looting and destroying. And because this is such a hot potato no one wants to condemn it for fear of being called racist.
Plenty of videos of not just black but more often then not white people csusing this destruction.

I heard the news, man. I watched the footage. Do you really think that social injustice is exclusive to one country? Do you think that making it right there will correct the whole world?

He didn’t say it’s exclusive to one country.
He didn’t say making it right there will correct the whole world.

There is a difference between someone dying and someone being needlessly executed because of the colour of their skin.

Perfection is the enemy of progress.
