SpaceX shot a rocket into outer space at the EXACT same time I was watching police cars burning. And the country PRAISED SpaceX. It's was weird yet awesome to see such sadness and despair at the same time watch humans coming together to do something that's never been done before.

Nobody got mad at SpaceX for continuing on. The same would have happened with Sony and the PS5. We would have all understood if they kept their date the same.

Come on now.
Space X is an entirely different situation to the fucking PS5. For one Rocket Launches are dictated by weather - if the weather is good, you launch.
The PS5 is just a game console.

No idea, but it seems like Sony has backed themselves into a corner that will be difficult to get out of if this continues for weeks.

If they just wanted to avoid the funeral they should have specifically stated that "out of respect" but the way its worded makes it seem they are holding off any announcements so as not to detract from the protestors' message... To turn around and announce a date a week or two later seems impossible. They are going to have to wait for the entire thing to die down.
They're not going to delay it more than a couple weeks, unless this somehow escalates into a full civil war. This first week of protests is the most intense and distressing time in the eyes of the public, once the violence slows down and protests become peaceful sony will be comfortable enough to resume its thing.

Yep. lets not forget about global warming. This year is set to be the warmest year on record. Do we really need to celebrate video games when our kids are going to die from hurricanes?
Can't fucking wait for the heat to find its way to my shores. Still snow in my garden. Global warming cannot come soon enough.

Like I asked in the other thread. Now that everyone knows or should know that the mans funeral service is planned for the fourth so with this knowledge do u honestly still believe that sony should still put on the show at the same time when people will be mourning the man who died that started all this like seriously?

Just shows you how F'd we are as a species. EVERY group, religion or whatever, has members who make all the others look bad. EVERY group. Whether it's people in power, or poor, whether it's 'godless' people or those who are religiously devout. Human beings have issues.
Yep. good post.

And the only way to fix all of this is to cancel the PS5.
Don't worry, Gamestop took an 8 and a half minute break from twatting.

This heroic showing of support should be commended; please refrain from insulting Gamestop.

holy shit. this is way worse than sony's reply lmao.

There are more important voices to be heard every day in many corners of the world. This isn’t an attempt to be righteous. It’s just they are concerned that all the eyeballs won’t be on them.

It's not even about virtue signalling. It's just completely inappropriate and in bad taste to be advertising and building up this kind of event with what's going on in one of their biggest markets. It would be stupid to push on and ignore what's happening, both from a cold and selfish business point of view, and from a bullshit PR point of view.

Anyone disappointed this has happened is the same as pretty much anyone, myself included. Anyone disappointed in Sony (even to the point of threats to "vote with my wallet") for making this decision is an idiot. As is anyone facetiously suggesting that anything remotely bad going on in the world should equally be a reason for postponement. That isn't how the world works.

Postponement is regrettably the right thing to do. Anger is better directed at US authority culture and systemic racism than an indifferent corporation selfishly/thoughtfully delaying their marketing campaign.

And thinking this was the right move doesn't mean you've also stopped watching your favourite Netflix shows. There's more than just two extreme "sides".
It's OK to be disappointed and think it's ultimately the right move, which I think you yourself and others have expressed.
It's just marketing and PR. They delayed it for virtue signalling and (like when they avoid E3 or big game releases to make sure that other big news don't affect their visibility.

If they would really help they could have made the event, to include a nice related message at the start showing their support and announcing that they were going to help beyond a tweet, with something meaningful like announcing a big donation to an organization that fights against racism, a charity to fund the health & education related costs of many poor families or something like that.

But no, instead of doing something meaningful they just delayed a pre-recorded online event and made some copy pasted tweets like many other big multinational corporations with people working for them with almost slave level working conditions.

I think the delay will be about a week.
Let's hope the riots stop soon and they also make the event soon, because I can't wait. My hype is over 9000.

holy shit. this is way worse than sony's reply lmao.
All the CBS owned sites did the same thing lol...

"Hey how do we pretend to care with the least amount of interruption to our businesses?"

"Well it took like 8 minutes and 49 seconds for that copy to kill that guy, maybe we could halt our posting for that long?"

"BRILLIANT!"

Nope most were going under the assumption tht it was a general backing out, if it falls on his memorial it makes sense to move it.

With recent news of the event cancellation, I had to go and cook half a kilo (~1 pound) of steak, searing it on salty tears of mine. While eating, my wife should me what's really happening in the US! Holy shit, didn't think it's spreading all over the US and saw some crazy stuff rioters pulling a random truck driver and beating the shit out of him.

Well, I think what Sony did is the right thing, and it's getting messy and the stream is based in the US anyway not in Japan. Protests in London and in New Zealand, not sure if other areas as well. But those rioters aren't asking those people who get attacked. The army should get to the streets and force safety for the innocent people and their shops. The aftermath is much more worse than the accident itself, much worse.

My opinion is this:

If Sony only delays this a few days to a week solely due to the memorial service and the optics surrounding that, then fine.

If Sony is so scared about the entire situation as to not show their system in the midst of ongoing protests which are very likely to happen and this drags out for much longer, then that is absolutely foolish. Riots are nothing new, business must go on as usual. People still need go go about their lives even though we have people that do not respect society's laws.

Ok i admit this is Cute

Nice to see XBOX following the leader in this necessary stance. and not taking Colt Eastwoods BS stance to fan the console war flames.....All walks of life, all business enterprises and hobbyist communities needs to stand and take notice and fight what is an unending stain in our society of injustice and unfair treatment to the minority communities......It's like everyday, there is another infraction, always another gross display of intolerance, racism, inner strife and hatred that often times permeates through it's subconscious seal.

There has to be a stance taken by the world at large. I know people are saying "the USA is not the world", but what's happening in the USA is a real issue for humanity as a whole, it's one world. Let's stop the hatred and pining because it can escalate so quickly to ugly. If all you see in life is how to hate someone, you have already given up to the darkside.

New 4chan/reddit rumor says PS5 event now on June 12th.

An 8 day delay is a joke?

On one hand it's barely worth the delay in the first place, given the adverts already started on ESPN for the 4th.

On the other what can be fixed in 8 days that doesn't require a longer delay?

Seems like Sony just creating a future shit show for themselves when they get #calledout for "going back on" their #support.

Nobody got mad at SpaceX for continuing on. The same would have happened with Sony and the PS5. We would have all understood if they kept their date the same.

One is a tightly scheduled multi-million dollar demonstration test flight organised by a government agency that restores human LEO access to US soil.

The other is a hyped marketing campaign to advertise video games.

Please stop.

I'm also a little concerned that EVERYTHING turns into some racial issue. George Floyd's death is a tragedy, but was it a racially motivated one? It's more of a factor with having people in positions of public authority that have been granted a right to use deadly force, and some will use more liberties than others when employing a given amount of force. To me, the issue is police brutality and has nothing to do with race.

There's plenty of cases of police brutality against all races of people. Yet every time something happens against the black community is spirals into a media circus which leads to rioting, looting, etc. The amount of violence caused by blacks against their own race is a FAR bigger problem and issue than the one of police brutality in general, let alone police brutality that is proven to be racially motivated.

I'm hoping it's mostly just about the memorial service being on the same day. The riots will continue, I'm sure. How long is enough?

I just hope this doesn't escalate over the weekend with more people getting killed, the media spinning it as a hate crime, and then the masses getting kicked into a frenzy over it.

Sony are directly responding to social media replies and making very clear who they support and why. They are also matching donations people are making to support people affected, and have been doing so for a few days already.

A pre-recorded marketing campaign to hype and advertise video games on the day of the funeral for the man murdered by police because of his skin colour that has now become international news is a fucking colossally stupid idea, and if you think cancelling that is merely virtue signalling then I think you're an idiot.

I think Tim has too much part time to keep schooling those clowns.🤡

It’s not as much their fault as this Linus-YouTube-thumbnail-face guy. Everything, consoles or Apple, which is not a ugly ass, multi coloured kitsch LED illuminated, plug and drivers doesn’t work, PC component is not worth for him. For he is the king and prophet of the little-racket-socks master race and if he has the time for working in the technology that should already be working for you, so you do. It’s just that he gets paid for it and you don’t.

I wouldn't consider those platforms reliable for that kind of information obviously. Probably a new date is set internally and hasn't been given to anyone.
