I stopped doing powder coating about 10 years ago; I miss working with the guns and fiddling with the recipes for each different mix. Do you mix on site, or does your stuff come ready to rock?

On the site. We use a special camera that takes a color reading we get from an adjacent panel, then we match that with the most successful mixes in the system based on the color code. Sometimes with 3 stage pearl finishes or metallic it’s really hard, but mostly pretty seamless if you know how to blend and have a good eye. We’re collision repair so it’s a production shop but sometimes we’ll get an odd paint job on just about anything, if we get some crazy antique color we just call our paint rep.. we ain’t got time to do 50 spray outs for color match.

Designing paint jobs and vinyls has become one of my favorite parts of Forza Horizon.
Have you worked with vinyls? Are they a pain?

Not really vinyl wrap isn’t popular where I live you only see it on business or promotional vehicles. It seems like it’s bigger in areas where it’s warm with high end cars. They make sense to me on high end car where painting would devalue it. It’s shrinking and shaping plastic, kind of like tint. I don’t think it’s hard but you need certain proclivities to do that kind of work, patience is a key thing with that.

I have, it's not really very difficult. It's rather fun when you're working with solid vinyl colours and layering things instead of just getting a digital print, which is what most full vehicle wraps are.
