Now that Sega is making its big comeback to the arcades, what would be your top 5 best Sega ARCADE games of all time?

My list would be:
1. Daytona USA
2. Golden Axe - probably the most perfect arcade game Sega has ever made. Its easy for anyone to pick up and not impossible to beat.
3. Space Harrier
4. Outrun
5. Shinobi

I think 3-5 for me are interchangeable. All legendary games.

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
1. Virtua Fighter 4
2. Virtua Fighter 3
3. Scud Race/Sega Super GT
4. OutRun
5. Space Harrier

This is impossible for me.

No initial D nor House of the Dead so far?

Still no mention of any lightgun games. No people of culture here confirmed.

I won't bother doing a top 5, a single series, never mind genre, could take more than one spot! Try top 20.

Eh, I've always been more into racers and fighting games. House Of The Dead 2 would have been #6.

There's only a few posts above yours. And I mean, there were people that stayed away from lightgun games in the arcade so its safe to assume that's who they were. I had friends who just played virtual fighter. They're not wrong or unworthy sega fans. Hell kids today don't even know what a video arcade is, lets not divide us even further.

Lol complaining that 5 isn't near enough for a list, but also complaining that lightgun games aren't in the lists. Makes no sense.

House of the Dead
Crazy Taxi

I’m not a huge fan of a lot of arcade games.

For me the best SEGA games have been stuff like the Yakuza series, Total War, Binary Domain, and Skies of Arcadia.

Arcade is all about the experience, so the cabinet maters

Daytona USA (those huge 8 player machines were awesome)
Scud Racer
Sega rally
G-Loc
Virtua Fighter (2 or 3)

Honorable mention Revenge of Death Adder

That's why I said so far. LOL
Also I think SEGA was (along with Capcom and SNK back then) and still is king in arcades. So many genre defining games under their belt.

I'll try to contribute to the thread a little, with some series that come to mind that I believe everyone should check out. In no particular order:

Daytona USA
SEGA Rally Championship
The House of the Dead
Virtua Cop
Virtua Fighter
Virtua Tennis
Virtua Racing
Virtua-On
Golden Axe
Altered Beast
After Burner
Hang On
Shinobi
Initial D
Gunblade NY

I've spend so much time in arcades during the 90's and early 2000's, that's really hard for me to point out top 5. There is so much good stuff that would have to be left behind.

Hard to not think of the games that made the largest impact on me when I was younger...
  • House of the Dead
  • Virtua Cop
  • Virtual On
  • Virtua Fighter
  • Golden Axe

Old Retro

Outrun
After Burner II
Golden Axe
Shinobi
Space Harrier

for pure nostalgia's sake:
Zaxxon
Congo Bongo
Monaco GP

would have been top 5 if legendary titles didn't exist:
Daytona USA
Altered Beast
Thunder Blade <<< should have won Nobel Prize for cabinet design
Hang On <<< see above
Virtua Fighter
