Xbox Wire - Everything You Need to Know about Xbox Series X and The Future of Xbox… So Far

I never got the hype over Hellblade? It bored me and I gave it more chances than most games.

Anyway, i'm looking forward to seeing what 2 looks like, just to oogle the graphics.

Horrible timing. I am sorry to say, but talking about a day before the Sony event is not a good idea and this is coming from someone who's passionate about both consoles. Everyone will forget about this blog tomorrow. They should of posted this along with a July 1st party event or at least showed gameplay clip of Halo Infinite or a gameplay demo of some other 1st party game. Dumb marketing, dumb timing. Very sad. Still excited too see July event but this will not age well tomorrow.

I'll admit timing seems to be an issue recently. There were rumors Lockhart was going to be revealed this month and I never liked the sound of that tbh; had the May event went over massively well I'd of felt different but the problems with that event (mainly too little gameplay and AC Odyssey blue-balling everyone) plus the unanimous praise of the PS5 UE5 demo only a bit later would've made a Lockhart reveal in June a poor move since, again, not too much point in pushing more hardware without having a slam-dunk on the software to hook people in.

Sounds like they will talk more about XvA this month maybe, as a presser or such. Still though I agree they should really consider even just a small in-game gameplay snippet teaser of Halo Infinite or one of the other games in the July showcase to put out around the time of the PS5 event (maybe not same day, but a day or two later or week after). Given all the anticipation for tomorrow even if the games shown aren't overall quite what we were hoping for Sony's guaranteed to get a TON of good vibes from it and lots of marketing coverage.

MS already let them more or less shift the hardware discussion narrative to SSD I/O, I dunno if they want to have the games narrative shifted even moreso to the style of games Sony are generally known for, because different types of games will leverage these console technologies differently. Depending on what specific games are shown tomorrow it's going to seem like an incredibly steep climb for MS to get back in a position of relative prominence on next-gen messaging, when up until the Inside Xbox event I'd say they were leading on that (and yes that was partly due to Sony not showing or saying too much but a really strong Inside Xbox event would've more or less cemented them strongly; instead IMHO it kind of knocked their messaging down a couple of pegs even though I liked several of the games shown).

Yeah, they are still chasing Sony. This time trying to latch onto the UE5 reveal hype.

Its weird, SX seems like a strong hardware offering, yet their messaging is so desperate to horn in on topics Sony is starting. It seems really weak to me.

I'd say more recently it feels like they're being a bit more reactionary; again that Inside Xbox event seems to have been the point in the shift for me. They kind of are letting Sony control the narrative on more things now, when even with stuff like the SSD that could've been MS if they got out in front of it earlier and showed their solution in action to a point virtually perceived as instant and seamless with really strong asset streaming ahead of the UE5 demo (speaking of which they had to of had some kind of inkling about the demo and when it was going to drop, right?).

Then we've kind of seen it again in clarifying the "generations" thing, and responding to the UE5 demo by basically saying "yeah well we can use it too!", instead of trying to one-up them with an in-house solution (as some friendly jab at Epic along the way, maybe). That's kind of what they need to do to leverage a position of strength in the narrative because being reactive isn't going to see big gains for them. Basically they have to work twice as hard as Sony in terms of messaging for similar gains, at the moment it doesn't seem like they're doing that because such would mean them being more proactive in controlling/influencing the media narrative than they have been the past few weeks.

Im convinced the strong start for the xbox series x from the surprise reveal to the spec break down was more of an anomaly than team xbox turning a new leaf.

Wait until the MS main E3 event in July before making biased fanboy comments with no bases. You seem very upset over this. How dare MS do such a horrible thing! Cause sony NEVER does that!

So they can't mention anything UE5 related? Only Sony can?

Cmon guys

Give it a rest.

Look, I'm not console warring. I'm simply pointing out the fact that in their messaging they aren't leading the dance, they are following/reacting to statements and reveals that Sony have already used in their marketing.

Making out that Senua is going to be on UE5 should go without saying given Epic's announcement that the new engine would be made available to external devs in 2021. Its not newsworthy or interesting, its just interjecting a buzzword -in this case UE5- that Sony have already used.

And let me stress this just speaks to their marketing, not the quality of the hardware and software offering. So if anyone has their panties in a bunch about me pointing out what I see as an error in marketing strategy, keep in mind what you're getting defensive over.

I'm not the fanboy here.

That’s not even a reference to PS5, but to how PS4 Pro only offered better performance in its boost mode In non patched games, and how even in that it still wasn’t using its full GPU power

it is about ps5, it is from paragraph about bc

Backwards compatible games run natively on the Xbox Series X hardware, running with the full power of the CPU, GPU and the SSD. No boost mode, no downclocking, the full power of the Xbox Series X for each and every backward compatible game.

Yeah, but that's normal, both companies do this. Microsoft stresses on backwards compatibility, and then Sony also let people know that the PS5 will have hundreds of games available at launch coming from PS4. That's just marketing, acting-reacting.

2 words with real news in an article with over thousands of them with old content.

yeah, i hate that this has become a thing. Hellblade 2's in engine trailer was on UE4 and looked better than anything i have ever seen including the UE5 demo.

Batman Arkham Knight is still one of the best looking games this gen and it was on UE3.

shipping with the v5 doesn't means you use things in the UE5 tech demo if you don't need to.
and if it's the case it's even more an insignificant buzzword update.

I really want to point to this thread the next time some fanboy fool trys to say that every Sony thread is infested with "xbots" any time some news is dropped about Sony. Man we're 2 pages in and it has become about "Microsoft being so desperate that they release news the day before Sony" despite Sony doing the exact same thing and how Hellblade 2 being on UE5 is irrelevant cause [insert reasons]. Ya'll need to go outside as smell some damn flowers or something cause it is a long 5 months until launch. Haha.

“The most powerful console ever” , confidence? The day before the Sony event

Both companies have revealed the specs. The Xbox is more powerful my man. That is--unless you've decided to shift the goal posts and say that SSD's can now process assets and those assets no longer need to pass through a GPU to get to your screen. Short of that the XBox Series X is the more powerful console.

In my opinion MS should be more proactive in defining their offering on their terms. Sony being so quiet presented an opportunity to make a powerful statement, yet I feel its been squandered.

The reveal at the TGA was the first time over the entire generation that they'd taken the initiative (no pun intended), but since then they've allowed Sony's messaging to overshadow them with minimal effort. They needed to capitalize on that, and yet I honestly don't believe they have.

#1. Sony revealed their controller 1 day before Microsofts 3rd party showcase. So this is not Microsoft being desperate or being reactionary. This is what both companies have been doing.

#2 It is pretty clear that Sony had some sort of agreement be it financial or other to reveal UE5 using their tech. Since today is damn close to 1 month since the reveal I would bet that there was an embargo in place in some capacity. Microsoft are not using UE5 a simply a buzzword because Sony struck gold with revealing it. That's nonesense.

Microsoft started strong. From december until may, it was mostly Microsoft that was in the news. Then you had the UE5 demo, right after that Inside Xbox that showed 3rd party games that didn't look that impressive. Was a bad month for Microsoft :pie_grinning_sweat:

Dude. What in the flat earth fuck are you talking about? Haha. Prior to the Unreal Engine 5 reveal people were literally going "OMG SONY GIVE US SOMETHIIIING PLEEEEEEEASE" Microsoft had all the headlines when they let DF tear apart their console with zero restriction. They had the better event to replace any GDC talks that should have happened. Literally until the UE5 event Sony did fuck all. I have no clue where your opinion is formulated from and you are certainly entitled to it, but I seriously have no clue in hell what you have comprehended or experienced that I haven't which brings you to your conclusions. It makes no sense at all.

No one blames you, except everyone.

CatLady CatLady GET ITT!!!!

I'm here buddy, I'm here. I was just going to quickly lurk the threads and go back to Wasteland 2, but then I saw this thread and you made it so I had to check it out and give you some likes. Great thread, nice to have all the Power King info in one place :messenger_beaming:

I kinda figured HB2 was UE5 but it's nice to have confirmation. Nothing can touch that Hellblade trailer, I have to watch it every time I come across it. Ninja Theory are so unbelievably talented and now that they have a AAA size team and MS money they are going to blow everything else out of the water. Although I do expect to see some really amazing stuff tomorrow with the PS5 event.

Just an observation of slight change wording from MS, from “our” to “the” most powerful console.

I was always getting the X day one either way 👍

You are missing the point. Their controller is proprietary and has somewhat unique features. That's exactly the sort of thing that Xbox needs to be putting front and centre, not mentioning that an undated game is going to be using the latest version of the most popular third-party engine in the industry.

Worse yet, it brings to mind the impressive reveal/showcase video Epic put out slathered with PS5 branding!

Why would you want to remind people of your competitions "greatest hits" ?

Is just saying "we'll have that too" really enough? Because that's the overriding message I get from their marketing.

I disagree. Sony didn't even fix the major complaint, which is the positioning of the analog sticks. Ergonomics comes first. Don't care about the other features that only add more to the cost. But that's just me

To be honest I don't blame them. PS5 will be talked about everywhere and be the most popular console by far especially if tomorrow's showing is great like we know it will be

I am sure your clear bias has nothing to do with that.

No bias here. My complaints are legitimate, sorry if that bothers you but it is what it is.

I've gone out of my way not to bash the hardware, I've stayed tightly focused on-point about marketing/messaging and as marketing is all about perception... you simply cannot discard my view.

And at the very least I care enough to explain myself... You aren't even offering a counterpoint.

It can be weaker and still have the best exclusives and the best looking exclusives
Best exclusives is always subjective and any ps5 exclusive could look and run better on xbox series x or pc and will be held back by the ps5. If you care about graphics supporting exclusives on the weakest hardware doesn't make sense.
