Edit: Dammit I accidentally hit the enter button while updating the title. It's supposed to read: OS home screens: am I the only one that liked the simplicity of a big wall of icons like in Wii, Wii U, iOS and Android?

I noticed that all these new consoles have been trying to get increasingly clever about their OS designs. The Xbox OS in particular looks like it was designed by a UX designer who has over analysed things and tried too hard to justify their salary.

I always loved the sheer simplicity of the Wii's OS; a big ass grid of icons. iOS adopted the same thing, as did Android, which are the two biggest digital platforms in the world, next to Windows (which also has a desktop with a...big grid of icons!). It's simple, it's clear. I've never understood the need to be any more complicated than that.
