Resetera hates it.

Setting the whole "SJW/anti-SJW" bit aside, this makes me think that this game could be a more current GTA 4 where it's ridiculously praised by critics but then the players have loads of issues.

And if that's true then is there a Saints Row 2 comparison here where there's a zombie game that's like Last of Us 2 but actually fun?

Wasnt that more a GTAV situation though?. I dont remember much backlash against GTA4 at the time, and it seems to be almost universally loved these days (compared to 5).

Yeah maybe the analogy doesn't quite work because it took a few years before people circled around and kinda came to the conclusion that GTA 4 just wasn't that great. It gets more love now probably because it's a vestige of a time when Rockstar really prioritized a single player experience. GTA as a brand isn't really for people like that anymore.

I think when the dust has settled, this game will be very divisive. Critics love it, fans will be lukewarm to it.

The problem this game will face is that the characters are not very relatable. It will have a hard time staying in the limelight once the initial excitement goes away. People remember Joel from the first game, I doubt people will remember the characters from this game a few years down.

Watching a game isn't the same as playing it! If you can't grasp that, there's no point in discussing further.

Honestly, if you cant get your head around how interactivity alters narrative perception... yeesh. Sorry but if you think watching and playing are equivalent experiences no matter how comprehensive the recording (which is a big consideration especially if the game is as long as TLOU2 is), I'd argue that you have no appreciation of either the ludic or the narrative dimension.

Hmmm sorry but TLOU 2 narratively does not benefit that much from being an interractive experience. Playable parts are just connector tissue between the important parts. You going through a house alone full of clickers has no bearing on anything. You killing tons and tons of people has no bearing on anything, as much as this game tries to humanize their minion NPCs.

This games story can totally be experienced through cutscenes alone (note, cutscenes can be interactable and walking sequences of just talking). Sure I'm not defending the experience is the same, playing it is more complete, but saying you can't criticize the story and what happens in it without playing is asinine.

If we were talking about something like Nier Automata for example, where I don't see how it's narrative benefits greatly from being a videogame, sure. But TLOU? A game that tries to emulate a movie as much as possible? Nah.

Could be said about so many games from virtually all publishers and I am not sure it really diminishes the value of the game... it is the artists vision IMO. Being a novel or film-like story that you cannot change but can participate and immerse yourself in is still using the unique strengths of the medium.

I'm not saying that's not true and I'm not trying to diminish the value of Naughty Dogs games, they succeed on what they're trying to do better than most. I'm saying you can criticize the game's story without playing the game. Because I've seen many people discard the opinions of someone that saw the game's story through youtube in it's entirety.

How many people do you really think saw the whole thing at this point? Like genuinely? And most people complaining were complaining long before you could watch the entire story, they would argue the 90 minutes was enough (I again stress, most the 90 minutes wasn't even pertinent to the plot).

I saw it and decided to give it a chance after hating the spoilers...... and I am genuinely enjoying it. Sometimes you have to experience something..to come to terms.

Not many sure, but its out there to see. Why can't you understand I'm only defending that people can criticize this games story without playing the game? I'm not defending the people criticizing it based on a couple of scenes here and there.

And do you now enjoy the moments you hated from the leaks? And if so was that because you were playing? Or because of the extra content provided by the story in itself?

It's because things happen in the story and if you were watching, you have no way to respond to them but the gameplay itself and some of the outcomes are enough to relieve that.....

I can't go into detail here of course and I am only 6 hours in but it could change direction again.

Me too! when I saw all the leaks and spoilers I thought it was ballsy as hell but wasn’t sure if they could pull it off. I’m glad to see it’s not just The Last of Us 1.5. this game is making me feel some shit and I love it.

Yes and I think games now are so passive for many people, they play them as they would watch a Michael Bay film..... all the same things in each one and then complain that they don't get anything original. Yet, when something truly different or challenging comes along, they hate it or treat it with disgust etc.

I noticed this last year with Death Stranding too. You didn't shoot people every few seconds , so it was a 'boring, walking sim'. I really felt disappointed with the entire gaming community at that point.

You know what?
My TV stopped to display image few days ago.
The assistance company said they will give it back fixed tomorrow so I can’t play it until they give it back.

The worst part is that I’m not confident they will give me back tomorrow because the guy already said their parts delivery to fix it is late.
Well the worst happened.
They guy called me to say that his supplied sent one of the board parts wrong (from a different TV model).
So more few days to send back the wrong board part and receive the correct one.

I'm almost changed my PS4 to the bedroom TV.

I'm sure watching the game rather than playing it is a lot less boring, since you can flip through your phone or do chores at the same time.

Naw, once you get going, the gameplay is awesome.... got the silencer and you feel like such a badass when you take a load of enemies out with headshots. Prone shooting is my favorite.

It's incredible when you kill every enemy except one and they beg for their lives.

So, let me think
  1. You say that 1 reviewer out of hundreds is the only one correct
  2. you haven't played the game yourself
  3. You use obviously fake reviews to validate your "opinion"
Look, dude, don't care if you like it or not, you've made it abundantly clear this is not the game for you. But your posts are a handful of nothing
But yet you keep replying.

The review bombing reminds me of Sticks and Stones. I loved that show but I guess it was too much to handle for ultra sensitive people.

You have your Obvious trolls and fanboys but i will say on record the game is one of the best games i have ever played on a technical and gameplay level
but in terms of telling a story that engages people and wills them to play on through the game...it fails and im not sure if the gender sjw politics was simply a smokescreen masking the key shortcomings but most people will only play this once
as the story and execution is shit

Its a shame they have not included mp in this as the core gameplay is still as solid as ever

Same. 17h in here, I've been super eagle eyed trying to explore everything, so I think I'm not halfway even. The story and writing haven't been nothing short of amazing so far, the game makes you feel what the characters are feeling, and the mocap allows you to read into their face as well.

Still 10/10, I'll keep reporting

16 hours in.

I just think the second half is much better in the second half in terms of gameplay and story.

Had to check what most people think of this game... 3.5!?! :pie_roffles:
That's all that matters, not your silly numbers. This game is still shit, keep being butthurt and defending shit, shill.
A 3.5 that is from a bunch of people that haven't even played the game 🤣

What is that supposed to prove? Lol

95/100 and it'll likely be GOTY too

This was from the metacritic thread. Looks like the shill game journalist gave it 10/10 because they would be blacklisted otherwise. If this was the case, then good on Gamespot for standing by their 8/10 and giving an honest review. I have much more respect for them now.

"Anyone who says differently is selling something"

People actually believe this. lol.

I gave my honest opinion on how I felt in this game and he means I'm lying to myself if I say I'm having really fun playing this game? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not to burst your bubble, but GS’ 8/10 still means it’s a good game, and far from being the “terrible game” in that godawful tweet you displayed.

Sony studios are just something else. Every time a new game comes out im like how can this get better? TLOU1 comes out then Guerrilla goes "hold my beer" then Santa Monicas like "hold my beer" then Insomniac is like no "hold my beer" then Naughty Dog is like no for real "hold my beer". TLOU2 is so fucking polished. How is Naughty Dog this much better at making games than anyone else? The only studio that legitimately has a chance to go runner runner game of the Generation fucking incredible 👏

Did you give it a 10/10 overall? The great majority of the critics gave it a 10/10 score. Either these critics are extremely out of touch with normal people, or they were influence/persuaded to give it 1 or 2 more points than it deserved. Which reeks of shills and paid reviews.

The gameplay is fantastic. You are spot on with hiding and using the silencer/bow. It's very satisfying. The A.I. is way better than it was in the first one. The story though, I dunno, it really drops the ball in my opinion.

Yeah, I've liked it more or less up to where I am but I hear they try to take things in a certain direction that I strongly disagree with later.

No, GTAIV immediately had tons of detractors. The decision to make the driving “realistic” was super divisive, and the shitty controls themselves were a huge gripe even with game journalists. I fucking hated it when it came out.
