Not the case. PS4 was $399/£349 @$1.5x exchange rate and Pro 3 years later was also $399/£349 even though the exchange rate was @$1.2x. The current exchange rate is basically the same today as in November 2016.
The last two consoles that came in >£399 (PS3/Xbox One) they very quickly had to be reduced down to £299 within months to get sales moving again after the hardcore and AV enthusiasts (PS3 Blu-Ray) got theirs.
Given with both PS4s the pricing was very stable for years (I just payed £249 for a slim with a game and it launched for £259 in 2016) it makes perfect sense that PS5 will also do the same. Coming out at a high price that reduces multiple times over time is over I think.
I really think there are two extremes about these new consoles that I don't understand. On one hand the PS5 will no doubt be very costly to make and buy but the Lockhart will be a super cheap model but with next-gen specs. I don't get it.....

I'm sure that stand will come default in every box as that's the only way the machine can put placed on flat surface, whether vertically or horizontally.

The stand probably isn't necessary. The PS2 didn't come with a stand, so no reason to include one with the PS5. There's no reason they'd make a system built to be vertical, that can't stand that way on its own. That tiny stand is for added stability, not minimal stability. I never bought a PS2 stand because it wasn't needed, and looked ugly. The stand is probably needed more to go horizontal.
That said, I don't believe any speculation. I'll wait for Sony to announce the price.

If those prices are true then I guess a lot of people will go for the digital edition. I'm a bit worried about that because that could be the end of video games shop. It's a whole economy that can die with it.
For myself I would love to have a digital edition because my internet connection is perfect for it (illimited Fibre), but I don't want to be responsible of the death of this industry...

Just because all orientations require a stand that does not mean it's the same stand for both orientation. Could also be that the horizontal stand is included and the vertical stand sold separately...

Will prolly get 4 games at launch (more if there are good ones) so we're looking at £700 for PS5 fat, Stand, Headphones and 4 games. Not bad.

It's more than likely will be 2.0 channel with no sound gimmicks, as 5.1/7.1 channel signals ruin the accurate HRTF true 3D audio signal. Above that, the old Pulse headset had a rumble feature back in PS3 that most people liked, so Pulse 3D might build upon that.
I have Astro A40 with the mixer, sound quality is good bad bass is shit to be honest. Heard the A50 has better bass.
If something critical would be there is Sony's LDAC signal for hi-res audio, top of the line format, giving you up to 96kHz frequency and 990kbps compared to 328kbps on common bluetooth signal.

Don't look at it plainly as "$100 for a disc drive" Sony just like Microsoft are in this for the long haul. A considerable cheaper console is better for them and the consumer long term, even if they take a loss initially, those costs will be recouped relatively quickly considering people are buying digital more nowadays than physical (51% if I remember correctly, increasing year over year)

they are definitely making a loss if they plan on selling this at £350-450. i was preparing myself for £500-600. SSDs are NOT cheap even when you take into consideration any savings Sony/Microsoft make by buying components in bulk.
a 2.5" 1TB HDD that you'd put in a PS4 would cost ~ £40
a 2.5" 1TB SATA 3 SSD is ~£100-150
the fastest current 1TB PCIE 4.0 drive you can buy for PC (<5GB/s) is ~£200
and that's just the cost of the SSD. remember they are putting in 16GB RAM, a Zen 2 cpu, and a 10TF GPU.

yup, i got a PS4 at launch and it hardly got used the first year or so. i'm definitely gonna hold off for the Slim/Pro revisions. by then it should have gathered steam.

You don't need to pay, I don't need to pay. I'm only a new tech nerd. Any headsets, even extremely old stereo headset, but good quality should give you great experience! You only need the simplest form, 2.0 channel.
That's the whole point of The Tempest 3D Audio, any stereo headset/headphones should give you great experience depending on cans quality indeed.
But for wireless, if PS5 supports LDAC, then maybe an aux 3.5 wire through dualsense could provide that? Not sure. No need to rush, just wait and watch all the reviews. Most likely the rumble features comeback might be the new selling point.

- Jim Ryan recently mentioned specifically that the staggered release of the PS4 was a mistake and said the PS5 will have a worldwide release. So the Japan first is what makes me doubt the most about this source.
- Selling the stand separately would be a dick move by Sony. It's to be expected it will come with the console along with at least one controller. If real, those prices have to be for extra/spare parts.
- Stop crunching numbers over how much a 4K Blu-ray disc drive costs. The Digital Edition could be 100€ cheaper because Sony gets a bigger cut from every digital purchase.
Yesterday I was looking at Sony's latest fiscal year data and 89.5% of the software revenue they get comes from selling digital games and DLC. That's 9.29 billion dollars from the 10.38 billion total in 2019. It's THAT big of a difference.
To put it in perspective, the total revenue of Sony's gaming division in 2019 was 18.2 billion dollars (including software, hardware and services). Digital software sales represent half of that revenue. Of course Playstation wants to incentivize people to buy the Digital Edition PS5.

One whole side of the PS3 was flat and had rubber feet on it. So vertical was an option, which is why a stand wasn't included.
The PS5 seems to be designed with being vertical as default (With both sides of the console being curved and without feet).
