DF- Microsoft will close out June without a big Xbox 20/20 moment, Series S console reveal currently set for August

I mean, there's only today and tomorrow for June so if they had something big planned there's not a lot of time to actually do that. That tweet's only slightly more timely than it being posted on July 1st mentioning the exact same thing.

But speaking of, they've got their stuff set for July and August so....everything's still on schedule. Waste of a tweet imho.

OP at least link the article or key quotes from the article rather than just the tweet... :

Earlier in the month, Venturebeat's Jeff Grubb reported Microsoft was now saving a big June announcement for August (which is when Eurogamer also understands Xbox Series S will finally be revealed). This prompted a carefully-worded response from Greenberg stating the company had "not pushed anything back", and that its next big digital show was still July.

The argument here seems to be whether Series S was still a June announcement for Microsoft after Xbox 20/20 was detailed. The lack of any other big reveal would appear to suggest so, though I've heard from others in Microsoft who say not - that June was always supposed to be a quieter month for announcements, and the idea of a "moment" for June was always a little out of step with reality. I also understand Microsoft's June plans were made quieter still as the company shuffled its cards yet again to accommodate the real-world events dominating headlines.

Of course, Microsoft cannot control global events and can adapt its marketing schedule however it pleases. But the lack of any update this month on its June Xbox 20/20 "moment" has left a hole in its regular-sounding announcement schedule - and one it has not publicly addressed. Microsoft declined to comment further when contacted by Eurogamer.

After a lacklustre May and largely non-existent June, all eyes are on Microsoft's July Xbox 20/20 show to finally deliver - and August, for the reveal of that second box.

They are really going to do a XSS?
I can't see how the XSS is going to run X1X BC if it has less memory, unless they create a new XSS profile in the SDK and force every developer that made a X1X game to release a patch for it (no, it won't be magically automatic).

Road to next gen consoles is getting really boring.. Maybe it would be better to just drop it on shelves in November and that's it

why does series s need to exist when xb1x already does. still dont understand.
because they want a cheaper entry level next gen system running on the same newer architecture. The xbox one x may be powerful as a system, but it’s still running with current gen architecture and it’ll see the end of it’s support sooner or later.
Why don't they really want to talk about Lockhart?
I think they’re saving it for the price reveal. “Oh, is $___ too much? In that case we also have the new series S!”

I thought they were gonna have a huge blowout before their big July event? Why would they save announcements for their big event in July when they could just cream all over my face now?

It's amazing that Microsoft thinks that the announcement of a Series S is something anyone would be excited about.

It's more like announcing that a family member has terminal cancer.
Eh I would equate it more to a parent putting a test on a fridge that got a B- or C+ next to another sibling's test that got an A.

Some of you people are being overly defensive. Microsoft said:

Starting with the May 7 episode of Inside Xbox, we will be showcasing what happens next in the world of Xbox, every month, which is why we’re calling it “Xbox 20/20.” These monthly moments will take place throughout the rest of the year and will be a way for us to engage, connect and celebrate with you about what’s in store for the next generation of gaming, including what’s next for Xbox Series X, Xbox Game Studios, Xbox Game Pass and Project xCloud. Every month will bring something different. Stay tuned to Xbox Wire for more details.

The article is simply pointing out that there wasn't anything special for June when Microsoft said they were going to have something monthly. The July event is July's event. The article is just pointing out that nothing happened in June despite them saying to expect "moments" every month. Microsoft did say the won't have an Inside Xbox this month but they didn't really do anything except a few interviews and blog posts about stuff we already knew about.

I honestly don't get the interest in the Series S, based on the reports it will be a weaker version of the series X so what is point in M$ even announcing it right now.

Not everyone wants to spend $500 to buy into a new generation, especially if you're someone who is running a 1080p TV with no desire to upgrade to 4K. Three of my XBox nephews are precisely in this boat and if it means they can each have a new XBox with SSD technology for Christmas, then it will save my sisters a load of dough.

The interest is simple. $199
I heard from users here that in brazil you get a scoop of icecream for that much.
I am sure they rather lick a plastic box ( and a real box😎) for that money

xbox one x doesnt have the cpu or ssd required to run next gen games that will be built around the ssd and cpu.

I doubt this is true because the old consoles can run games like last of us 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 plus Halo infinite will be on xbox one also.

I just think its pointless for M$ to have the series s exist just to have a lower price, the One X is an amazing console on its own and it could serve as a entry point for people who don't want to spend a lot on the newer series X.

You've kind of jokingly confirmed your own suspicion. Dev confirmed that the MS GDK includes scalability from the XSX down. Very little work on the Dev side as MS gives the tools to begin work on the XSX then scale down to lower specs. Should be even easier now that the XSS is rumored to have the EXACT same CPU as the XSX. A bit less ram and CU's leaving me to suspect that it's an all digital "gamepass box" if you will

TBH I'm not terribly interested in Series S either (as a purchase; as a curiosity to discuss however it's quite interesting), just XSX and PS5. I kind of hope Series S (at least for this year) is just a ruse and they're 100% about XSX for launch.

That's the one they've built all the goodwill and momentum with, not Series S. Plus no Series S for a while means they can maximize the production pipeline for Series X which is what the vast majority of hardcore/core gamers (who make up the majority of early console purchasers) will gravitate to, anyway.

C'mon Microsoft, stick the landing!

i want E3 back, this is trainwreck, why the fuck I have to wait till July, when MS oncovered so much, except...you know, fucking games. This whole "next gen showing" is shit, first GDC presentation for PS5, like....this is the first thing you want show to public? And then this bullshit, when console seems nice (XSX), but what kind of games are going to be available?

Like get your asses straight.

If the XSS is aiming at 1080-1440p resolutions there is no reason to have as much memory than the XOX.

I wonder if we could have a longer generation transition with XOX and Pro still running games that don't require much CPU or a super fast SSD.
