What if the XBOX Lockhart is a Portable Console?

Seriously. What if it is? Lockhart is probably an all digital console anyways, so why not make it a $249 portable XBOX console that can play all digital XBOX, 360, and XBOX One games, with the occasional series X game thrown in for good measure?

I really have no reason to buy a digital only XBOX console, that will clearly be weaker than the Series X. I have full intentions of buying a Series X. But... if it was portable... I would absolutely double dip and buy both consoles. And here's the kicker.... I have a theory that this is what those fancy portable expansion cards are for (which we have already seen for the Series X). Clearly XBOX put a lot of thought into these cards which I thought was weird because there are already plenty of excellent external storage options out there. So why would they invest R&D into this fancy new expansion port with proprietary cards? I think this points to something we will see with the Lockhart.

You can have a 1tb or 2tb card filled with games on your Series X for at home use... but when you travel or are out for the day... just grab your Lockhart and card, and continue the experiences on the go with a portable XBOX. It would be heavenly.

I mean, all of this is conjecture at this point, but let's just speculate some more, and actually talk about gaming again please! A portable XBOX has long been talked about and rumored, even since the original XBOX days. So what do you think GAF? Do you think it could work? Would ya'll be down for something like that? Let me know what you think :)

Outdated design below... but man... I loved all the talk about "the portable xbox" back in the day.

A portable with a huge amd APU in it... unless all the so-far-released info on the system is bunk then I suspect not. But
it would be pretty cool if it were. At least THEN finally nobody could say its woefully underpowered walmart-fare level impulse buy garbage.

Carry a controller. Sign up for xcloud. Get the clip that connects controller and phone.

Portable xbox

Run down battery for main phone, maintain controller battery as well, very small screen,
terrible likely unpredictable latency, often totally unplayable, likely unplayable in vehicles without wifi....

Yeah an actual portable would be a lot better. its the simplicity of a machine like switch that makes it so
popular in a world where everyone is already carrying a phone anyway.

I agree with most of your points but a very small screen? Not with today's phones.

So you also must carry a flagship phone... the bigger the screen on most phones because they are VERY high res now, the lower
the battery life. You can solve the screen size in that case but..... we're going to increase the other issues.
But yes I agree, though I would think a machine with the rumored specs of this system would have at least like a 7 inch screen
with very little border, and thats what I would expect, - but the competition switch is just over 6 inches isnt it? Its flagship size
but its also nowhere near the resolution at the same time.

Sure, and I don't expect it to be a VR unit, but I do still believe that a hybrid is the way forward.
Absolutely in agreement with that.

The Oculus Quest is proof that it's the way forward, just needs to be a bit more of a streamlined end to end experience along with more horsepower.

Could they cram the tech into something half the size, albeit slightly thicker than a Surface Pro though? I’d love it if they did.

HALF the size? Good question.... If its fully custom, not up-gradable to get rid of any modularity adding size like removable components,
I guess you could say its possible but it would be basically NOT possible if this is supposed to get good battery life- becasue the battery
has to go someplace and it has to stay cool, and it has to be light enough to hold for extended periods.

I dont want to say NO outright its just.... I dont think the engineers would be able to come up with something appealing to use.
Maybe I am wrong but it seems to be even if you go all premium materials and a metal case to get rid of the heat I cant see it being
something you could produce under , lets just say, 1000 bucks, once you factor in a nice screen, the battery, the casing, the engineering. etc.

Yeah, the Pro is a great bit of kit but to have a portable gaming system like the switch, even half the size of a pro is likely too big but a good indication of likelihood of pulling off the engineering. I’m gonna say nah.

Agreed. A portable is going to be at least a generation behind and / or based on mobile and not PC tech, even cutting edge somewhat expensive handhelds
with screens considered good for their time like the PSP back in its day, it was coming out 2 years after the PS3 and it was basically a beefier PS2. Same with Vita
which wasnt really even PS3 level but released like half a decade after it. As we all know Switch's most lauded game also runs on Wii U and is about the same there
as it was MADE for the Wii U originally, which itself was somewhat underpowered for its time.

Im still holding out hopes for a switch pro but the thing prints money and nintendo doesnt want to even BREATHE on it at this point let alone change anything.
They just sit there raking it in, pushing out the same 5 games and letting the third party have their way with it- and its working awesome.

Dead in the waters, Nintendo will butcher their asses just like it's doing against PS4 in Japan.
It's most likely a console for people with a modest budget as not everyone is equally rich.

If thats BUTCHER what do you call or should I say what do you consider what the PS4 and switch did to the Xbox One?
Why would being in last place stop Microsoft? They have never been above third place in any generation
why start now? Obviously half joking.

It won’t be (Or most likely won’t be).

every insider and leak pointed it out as being just a cheaper alternative to the series X as a home system. If it was truly a handheld, that information would’ve leaked by now.

Switched launched years later and cannibalized PS4's sales, same can be said about the Sony/Xbox scenario though the dynamics are different.
We aren't talking about that except you bringing it into the mix for obvious reasons (blind loyalty) we are talking about handhelds vs handhelds and from a company that lacks software.

If we're talking about handhelds why would you bring up PS4 VS handheld, and weather it "cannibalizes sales" who can say since it replaced the extremely high selling
3DS... was the 3DS cannibalizing sales too or were the 80 million 3DS something different? Considering the MAJORITY of the switch sales in japan are actually
switch lite.

But you HAD to find a way to dig on PS4 right? You brought up PS4 for no reason.. .wait... no... (blind loyalty.)

Completely agree and you put it so eloquently :messenger_tears_of_joy: if the Lockhart was indeed portable, then it would be worth it. But the specs kind of make it feel like the "Chromebook" of consoles.

As it stands, it is absolutely geared towards "casual consumers" who just want the cheapest option for the screaming kiddos.

Dial it back on the hostility and insults.

You know what I hate the most, stupid ass people that can't think for themselves that I end up explaining shit because either they are too lazy or just plain stupid.
PS4 was mentioned as it the console Switch is going against in Japan, the most successful and relevant one at that, yet you have the audacity to ask why it's mentioned?
Furthermore you re-affirmed what I said by not letting it go and dancing around the subject, so my thanks for that and the continuous laughter you provide.

Its def. meant to hit a casual market. Ms seems to want to sell the SERIES X on a monthly payment plan like they launched last generation and for people who dont want to
or cant afford that, maybe push the cheaper machine - Or its even possible they will do a subscription really cheap basically throwing one in with a 2 year gamepass
sub or something- who knows. It seems to fill a niche for sure.

Wow man are YOU pissed or what?

First you said its different because we're talking about handhelds, now we're saying the switch lite's millions of sales that place the switch above the PS4 in japan
are direct cannibalization of PS4 sales and putting them in the same bracket and youre asking why I'm asking why youre dancing back and forth?

I cant put this any more clearly.... the switch and the PS4 do not fill the same market but you'd love to think so, because it will "Dethrone" some machine you have
an animus against, clearly. The switch sells as a console but its popular because its a handheld, its selling as a handheld. If the PS4's sales are being cannibalized
by the switch are you saying the PS4 would have sold 160 million if not for the switch?

Why do you hate anyone who doesnt hate Playstation so much?

Why would it be undercutting a Switch?

Not pissed, just honest with myself.

I have been talking about handhelds vs. the rest since my first post, a post you clearly have issues with as it mentions PS4.
Once again I find you dancing around a subject while trying to make a point, to the extent that "switch lite", "we", "first you said" is thrown in the mix.

Lastly I don't have anything against any of the 3 platforms, if you're not lazy perhaps look up my post history you might find a post displaying which brand I prefer, hint it's not the green or red team ;)
You're making a fool out of yourself, I'm ignoring the rest of your post as there's a lot of fabrication and lies which I won't bother addressing, this is my last response in regards to this matter.
