Anneke is :messenger_smiling_hearts:

I have no idea how I'm only just now getting into them. They randomly popped up on my YouTube homepage and I've been down since.

And yes, Anneke certainly is something. Whole band is talented. These songs are so complex. Serene yet heavy as all Hell. Frankly, I'm amazed.

This 90s era. I feel like I've stumbled on solid gold.

Can you tell me everything you know about them lock2k lock2k ? I wanna learn

Looks like they had some dude before Anneke and were just like some straight up metal band

They added her and started adding more symphonic, dream pop elements etc

Been switching to metal recently from hip-hop. Right now I have Metallica's - Seek N Destroy and Pantera's - This Love on loop.

A bit less heavy, but Skid Row were a pretty good band at the time. '18 and Life' really gets my emotions going.
18 & life is a legit banger.

If you're new to the whole scene, some of yesterday's classics might be just the thing. Faith No More, maybe?

I'm not a huge connoisseur but I really like their first records Mandillion and Nightime Birds. Also, check out her other band Vuur and her work with Devin Townsend. Everything she touches is fantastic.

Think your enjoying slow beaters from metal band. Here is one thats fit imo Seek and Destroy and This Love,

If I played this at my bro's tombstone, he'd jump up punch me and rock and listen to this track.

Holy fuck, this is amazing. Riff and solo are amazing! Drums really really get me going too.

Ah, well, Death was revolutionary, never heard of Cynic though.

Prog is my favorite genre, metalcore is my least favorite.

The bassist on the first Atheist album was Roger Patterson. He died in a car crash. He was replaced by the former bassist from Cynic.

All the members of Death quit around 91. Chuck needed new members so he got the two main members of Cynic to record the Human album with him and tour. This was the first time Death got proggy.

So the community is pretty tight knit.

Cynic used to be a bit controversial. In the beginning they were technical death metal, but the lead singer threw out his voice, so on their debut album it is half screams and half vocoder vocals.

Don’t miss their demos.

And the lead singer of Death died. Tragedy. Will listen, thanks!

Chuck from Death seems to have been the coolest guy in music.

After posting yesterday I realized I had never actually listened to a Cynic album all the way thru. I just did an both are really good. Based on a superficial first listen, focus is a bit better than their second album, Traced in Air- though that one has less vocoder vocals.

Also, listening to this stuff made me realize that it has been over 10 years since I listened to Reign in Blood all the way thru. How should I feel about that?

Hot damn, best Manson era. So cool to see this in such great quality. Whoever recorded this was doing the Lord's work that night.

The start of that song always has me ready to blame my dog for busting my headphones. Then at 8 seconds in, it all comes flooding back.

fuck man im so happy i got into slayer!

i used to hate them (i think the vocals turned me off.... no fucking idea what the hell was wrong with me lol, so dont ask). then i bought christ illusion on a whim and fell absolutely in love with them.

im way way biased because it was my first slayer album, but other than their 80's stuff, i think christ illusion is one of their best outputs. heres are some of my fav tracks off the album...

"i've seen the ways of god ill take the devil anyday, hail satan!" :messenger_horns:

(sorry i just got to post these lyrics, they're too good)
"Religion is hate
Religion is fear
Religion is war
Religion is rape
Religion is obscene
Religion is a whore
The pestilence of Jesus Christ
There never was a sacrifice
No man who hung the crucifix
Beware the call for purity
Infections their facility
I've made my choice
666!"
(probably my fav track on the album)

"must maintain control of the weak,
must contain the minds of the free"
(the break down and fade out of this song with these lyrics is a perfect cherry on top of this amazing album(

of course nothing tops there 80's shit (even as someone who didnt get into slayer until the late 2000's i absolutely recognize that there old stuff is the best)

In case you haven't heard Eruption yet, you might enjoy these. Hell, for how many times Testament, Megadeth, King Diamond and even Artillery, among other thrash bands have been dropped in this thread, I would bet many would enjoy them.

Sweet! Pretty damn good, although some of his screams were a little cringey lol 🤘👹🤘
