oh no. nothing like that. its just Bayside was a super rich neighborhood with great schools, and jackson height is mostly working class.

Corona and some parts of Harlem and Bronx would be like east Batltimore the wire, but I hear Harlem and most of those areas have been gentrified.

Sorry i was getting confused as we were started of talking about rap then went to pop a cap in your arse and so on so on , i naturally thought Gangster.

My bad sorry.

Microsoft discontinues Xbox One X and Xbox One S digital edition ahead of Series X launch - The Verge

Hmm, makes total sense to discontinue One X, once it's not the premium console anymore. But keeping One S and Series S at the same time?

I wonder if this hints Lockhart won’t be called Series S. Microsoft clearly did not want two Xbox X’s sold simultaneously, so they replaced the One X with Series X. But they’re keeping the One S .... so is Lockhart gonna be called like ... the Xbox Series B or something?

Checking in on the SSD speeds, I came up with some new math.

So, the raw figures are of 2.4GB/s, and we all agree with that. Then we have the compressed figures, that will reach 6GB/s. The thing is, the original throughput number is actually 2.5 times bigger, meaning the numbers jump to 6GB/s raw - 15GB/s compressed.

Now, here's the catch. If we multiply this number by the Spencer-bullshit constant, we actually get a number so fast that it becomes regressive.

That's right, data transfer is actually so fast it reaches the GPU before leaving the SSD. Rumors say Microsoft will rename their Velocity Architecture the "FTL architecture".

I just want you to imagine this: before turning on your Xbox, it has already turned itself on and opened the game you wanted. A coffee will be waiting for you in your center table and Phil Spencer will be on your door to personally thank you for playing.

Amazing, beautifully simple.
Wow, we are reaching quantum effects here, amazing!!!

Well there you have it, Microsoft speed has been ∞Gb/s this whole time.
Rest in piss Ponies.

Oh wait, I forgot it's actually ∞ X 2.5 Gb/s

Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally.

That tells me that MS are keeping Xb1s as the cheap console. Note they are continuing to manufacture, not slowly phase out ....

So is there no lockart ?

or is lockart not that cheap and xb1s is entry level ?

or is there another reason - maybe its the low cost optical disk drive unit ?

Final predictions for prices

Series S (Digital/500GB) - $299
Series X - $499
PS5 DE - $399
PS5 - $499

So some rationale behind my predictions

Why I think Series X and PS5 will be the same price?
Well although Series X is more powerful than PS5 I reckon the build cost is quite close. While Microsoft focused on better GPU with bigger CU count, Sony has other more expensive parts like faster SSD, more expensive controller. I also think Sony's cooling may also be expensive ndue to high clock speeds. I reckon none of the companies want to go above $499 and Sony's rumoured BoM costs makes me think that price range is easily doable.

Why Series S is $200 cheaper?
I think Microsoft wouldn't go through all this trouble and make it harder for developers if they couldn't make this console considerably cheaper than Series X. Last gen PS4 came out at $399 so to come out with something that's $299 but not target 4K should be doable. How would they save costs, well cheaper GPU is the big one, smaller SSD is the next big cost saver (I reckon 500GB), and finally smaller saving like smaller PSU, smaller shell, less expensive cooling. They will still probably take a bigger hit that Series X in profits but that would be something they take into account as they will make more money on digital sales.

Why PS5 DE is $100 cheaper than PS5 when UHD don't cost that much?
I think Sony will take a bigger hit on PS5 DE, no UHD probably saves them $20 at most. However they will make their money back by locking people into buying games digital only where they get a bigger cut. I also think it's not worth having 2 SKUs for a measly $50 difference, it has to be somewhat substantial. Finally I think Sony would like to get low price as possible due to Series S existing. $399 is also the magic price that made PS4 the huge success it was they need atleast one SKU in that price range especially in this economic downturn.

Why Series S only has a digital option?
I personally think this was not only a cost saving thing but by design. I think UHD Series X games only come with 4K assets and they didn't want HD and 4K assets in the same disks. So the solution was to make Series S Digital only and just download games. So by simply downloading games on a Series S automatically only downloads games with HD assets and not 4K. Also but only downloading HD assets for games they can get away with having a smaller SSD on Series S as HD assets are smaller in size. Meaning Microsoft saves costs by including a 500GB instead of 1TB which is quite a substantial savings to keep costs low.

Remember when certain individuals were dreading that the mid-gen refreshes were made to immediately phase out the base consoles, and that exclusives were to be made for more powerful hardware, ala Nintendo handhelds? Good times.

I don't get it. So he won't be playing anything, just showing the controller off? Seems a bit frivolous.
But wth I'll watch anyway I guess :messenger_hushed:

I don't think he didn't play any games with it. I'm pretty sure Sony probably gave him demo so he can experience the features of the controller. I think it would be very difficult for him to describe things like the haptic feedback without feeling it first.

My two cents.

People here question everything what MS engineers say, yet believe Cerny no matter what. SFS is not a new technology according to some, but AMD smartshift is. No one knows how far PS5 GPU will downclock, but people believe it will stay above 10TF no matter what. Some people believe Cerny so much, they even think higher clock 2.2GHz on PS5 will not only close 2TF gap, but also destroy XSX by a large margin.
Maybe they always believe someone because of something called reputation

Thats true, but Cerny has an excellent record and I believe him when he says things in his measured and correct way. Cerny would not say 2.5 something vague, he said 100 x ps4 and have numbers, and even for downclocking he have 2 % and 10 %. He is normally right, and always tries to qualify things scientifically.

ps5 does not have just smartshift, the downclocking on detected logic is a new arrangement, you know this.

Goosen I like listening to when he is being an engineer. Like his explanation of SFS.

A technique called Sampler Feedback Streaming - SFS - was built to more closely marry the memory demands of the GPU, intelligently loading in the texture mip data that's actually required with the guarantee of a lower quality mip available if the higher quality version isn't readily available, stopping GPU stalls and frame-time spikes. Bespoke hardware within the GPU is available to smooth the transition between mips, on the off-chance that the higher quality texture arrives a frame or two later.

Great, I get it, SFS allows smaller RAM pool and its hardware blender as you cam run closer to the wire if you have a plan B and helps GPU stalls. Then we get the car salesman stuff...

The rest of the stuff reads like watchdogs PRT text from years ago...

When using virtual texturing, you will only load the texture tiles into memory that are actually viewed by the virtual camera. The main benefit is that you can save on the amount of video memory that you need for you texture data, but there are a bunch of side benefits. Loading times are reduced and disk access is more constant and predictable. The bottom-line is that you can really increase the graphical fidelity of games, while staying within the limited of the current hardware.

We dont need a memory saving PRT+ sales pitch for SFS, I have read it a hundred times already, thank Carmak. mS trying to oversell SFS and chucking everything in the pot.

I'd say that there's a huge difference between a person with a face and a name saying something in public and a forum account. We're all just imaginative entities with no real names so any wild claims will just be that, forum talk. Even if you get banned, it's just a forum. Professionals who work in the industry have a lot more to lose. That's why real insiders are so rare.
