Microsoft's Game Showcase Solidified My XSX Pre-Order

For the last few months I've been waffling back and forth between what system I'd buy at launch this year. I can only buy one with the money I've had put aside for about a year, so it could only be the Series X or the PS5, but not both. I'll eventually own both, but in 2020 I have to pick one.

I've bought every PlayStation console at launch. I sold my Genesis and games to Amoeba Music in 1995 to get a PlayStation, Ridge Racer, and Toshinden at launch. In 2000 I camped out in front of the Sony Metreon in San Francisco for 18 hours to get a PS2. In 2006 I knew a GameStop manager who was able to secure me a 60GB launch system and ship it to me. Then in 2013 I pre-ordered the PS4 at GameStop and lined up at midnight to pick it up. 2020 will be the first year where I don't get a PS5 at launch. I said I'd wait for the MS showcase to decide and what they showed today, despite all the concern trolling here today, solidified my pre-order:

  • GamePass: I can't afford to buy a bunch of launch games, so having all of the first party stuff and the third party games shown in the presentation part of GamePass is HUGE. All I need at launch is the system and I can play new stuff.
  • The Games: I don't care about the memes trolls are making, I can't wait to play an open-world Halo at 60fps. Everwild looks amazing. Forza is my favorite driving series after the last few years, and the stuff further out is exciting like Avowed and Fable. Also really interested in The Medium as that dual rendering idea looks to be an interesting use for the SSD to swap between the worlds instantly.
  • 4K 60: Sure, the concern trolling now tells you that 60fps is overrated, but Halo running at 60fps and Forza being 4K 60 WITH Raytracing is huge. Maybe they can show UbiSoft a thing or two.
  • BC & Smart Delivery: I have a ton of 360 and some OG Xbox games already installed and I do play them all the time. Was playing Fight Night just last night. Being able to play ALL of those plus my Xbox One library on day 1 is huge.
Like I said, I'm obviously going to own a PS5 someday, maybe when a smaller revision comes out, but that solidified my pre-order. Now I just need to decide if I'm going to get it directly from MS or from Best Buy with store pickup.

Gamepass is a huge win for sure, but no info on Flight Simulator today has me disappointed and wallet sitting cool right where it is. It’s great to decide though so congrats! I want all the consoles but need to see more first.

Man, I grew up with Halo, I defended 343 for years but Halo Infinite is the last straw. If 60fps is the reason why Halo Infinite looks like dogshit, I'd rather have 30 back.

But yeah, GP is cool. Got 3 years stacked so XSX is pretty much the only option for me.

MY GP is good until next year, but next time Newegg puts the cards on sale for half price I'll stack another two years.

Why would you waste money on the series X when you can just buy an Xbox one X? You said yourself game pass is the main motivator, so why not save the money.
What is the point?

And you probably should have changed your Avatar before you made this thread.

Most of those games shown today won't even hit XBX.

Why do you care so much about graphics in case of Halo? This game was never pushing graphical fidelity since Halo 2.

An open world Halo is going to be great, I think. I can see myself playing this for hours and hours, with new content coming every few months

The Gamepass value is compelling, but I'm wondering, how does being able to get Gamepass for a month to finish Infinite on PC help them move next gen?

Good on you with gamepass but I like to own my games.
Its a good secondary service for me if I can afford it. Rather buy and own the games I love.

After 2 years of Gamepass you pay $300 and end up with owning nothing.
That is a whole 5 digit games one every 5 months or so. You can say sales you can get gamepass on sale to if you look on slickdeals or similar sites.

Gamepass is a must have.

Xsx not at all.

Pc ps5 combo is the way to go.

And call me crazy but i have a feeling gamepass will be on all plattforms which will for sure destroy psnow.

Gamepass just cant be beat.
Sony will never allow Game Pass on the PS5. They blocked EA Access for years, they don't want competition for PS Now.

i'm sure they won't mind it on other platforms but it will require xbox live, neither Sony nor Nintendo will allow it

It won't gamepass can't work if Microsoft is paying Sony 30% off the top. Microsoft has to pay 3rd parties for a vast majority of thier games. To pay sony 3 out of 10 dollars of gamepass makes the margin so low it is not worth while.

First of all a 100$ to rent games on game pass is not the best thing in the world . Specially to someone who actually like to own the game .

and none of the games they showed can run on a stupid 1070 card . Maybe not in 4K but easily 2k at 60fps

none of the games they showed even look next gen . Pointy heads in halo ? The 500$ million budget game ? Gtfo . Where did they spent all the money ? Buying yachts ? This is no way in hell even close to a 100$ million budget game .

what a waste of time . This show made me 100% go with Sony 5 . I don’t care if it’s less powerful than series x. The games look already better on the stupid ps5 because MS decided a 4K 60 FPS game that can run on a 7 years old console xbox one is a next gen for them . Yeah they can fuck off .

in 2 years or 3 if they still exist in the hardware business and actually started releasing next gen games I’ll consider buying one .
For this year at least for what they showed ? My Pc can run this shit easily and I have a 1080ti

complete pass. They just saved me a 500 to 600$ console ty Microsoft

Even though i havent even played Halo 4 and 5, This Infinite gameplay brought a bit of that passion back i had for the orig trilogy. Halo gameplay in an open world, well thats my cup of tea.

Psnow is just so behind and i dont want to pay for 2 consoles if ps5 could have gamepass.

Last game i pulled was control after that i didnt touch it.
I dont expect first party titles to be on it day one but games like stalker 2 on day one could make a big impact .

I will need to see Halo on the Xbox One vs. the Series X before I decide. I wish they would've shown that today. However, I understand not wanting to advertise the difference.

It's not... But now we're going to have to deal with Sony fanboy morons harping on about this forever I am sure...

I know opinions and all but I'd like to reply to all of OPs points

Gamepass
No doubt the best thing coming from Microsoft. But it all depends on the person. For me Gamepass is not suitable in fact I'd end up wasting more money than I need to. I play a handful of games a year as well as 1 or 2 big multiplayer games that don't usually show up on Gamepass. I'll give an example last year I played God of War, Final Fantasy, Titanfall 2, Shadow of Colousus, and a ton of Monster Hunter and Street Fighter online. Something like Gamepass would be a waste of money as I would still need to buy a game like Monster Hunter. And I don't pay enough games a year, so for me it's more about my interest in a game and quality over quantity.

The Games
You say you like Halo Infinite lets not get into the memes for a moment. But Halo 4 and 5 weren't the best games, 343 have a spotty track record and there were so many rumours of developed leaving the studio including the director. Also the fact that ray tracing isn't gonna be there at launch and then saying it's a platform makes me thing this will be rushed game to make launch. Avowed and Fable are CG trailers, what is the scope of Avowed is it a massive WRPG or something smaller like OuterWilds? How far off is the game? Same with Fable how far off is that game? How good was the last Fable? Wasn't Fable 3 just average and Fable Legends so bad they cancelled it. Also doesn't Playgrounds Studios make racing games why should we trust them making a RPG? Medium is cool but isn't that just a time exclusive.

4K60
It's cool and all but maybe these games are 4K60 cause they look like garbage. Also is native 4K really that big of a deal because I can bet no one can tell the difference between native 4K and reconstructed 4K. As for 60FPS PS5 will have plenty of games with 60FPS, Spiderman will have a 60FPS mode, I think Demon Souls as well. And of course Gran Turismo 7.

BC and Smart Delivery
Correct me if I'm wrong but won't most PS4 games also be backwards compatible with many games automatically improving on frame rates and resolution if they had dynamic rez or uncapped framerate in there code. As for smart delivery aren't every single 3rd party game with smart delivery upgradeable on PS5 as well.

Sony doesn't care about PSnow, i got 1 month and was trying to play The Last of Us but they don't even have the remastered version and only have the PS3 version, that's enough to tell you how much they care about it lol

I guess they didnt run with Flight as they have already released tons of images and videos of the game running, and if they did include it they would have got smashed for having "old filler" put in to their stream.

I have a whole year of it but dont use it at all.

I mean if i get 4 games out of it it pays off but otherwise yeah its more on the nostalgia side for me.

I really hope it will catch up with gamepass

all the exclusives and game pass you can play on your Xbox one x console or PC. There is no exclusive title to the series X to showcase the true power and that’s a downer. A 499 or 599 purchase for series X doesn’t compute for the options that are out there to get a similar experience right now. But who am I to tell you how to spend your money.

Well gamepass is a huge plus.
I am underwhelmed by both machines.
Series X will be for gamepass and multi-plateform games (they should be better ) and PS5 for exclusives from Sony.
If I had to choose between the 2 machines it would be a tough choice because I love IPs on both side.
I think gamepass would put me on Xbox side though.

Because those 2 shouldn't be mutually exclusive. Especially on a console that's the most powerful console to date. Y'all can lick that shit up if you want but that aint right.

Ghost of Tsushima looks better on a base Ps4.

You're tripping if you think game pass doesn't have any value. Makes me think you're not genuine.

Darkness no more
It has me questioning if I want to preorder. For XB I was looking at getting one since it seems more powerful for 3rd party games and I thought they'd have some more impressive first party games. Nothing was really that impressive and a lot of things seemed far away. Halo footage was really disappointing.

Neither conference was all that impressive, but I have to get a PS5 for my Japanese games. I'm probably going to wait and pick up an XB later down the line.
